EXHIBITION DESIGN

EXHIBITION DESIGN 08 EXHIBITION DESIGN Exhibition design is the process of de- veloping an exhibit—from a concept through to a physical, three-dimen- sional exhibition. It is a continually evolving field, drawing on innovative, creative, and practical solutions to the challenge of developing commu- nicative environments that ‘tell a story’ in a three-dimensional space. One of the major shifts in museum and exhibit design in the last decade has been a focus on visitor experi- ence. Participatory activities are also becoming more popular, Nina Simon has done research describing and identifying themes and trends in mu- seums that will attract visitors and ed- ucate them in fun and engaging ways.

CLIENT BRIEF STARBUCKS COFFEE Starbucks is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks has been described as the main representative of \"second wave coffee,\" a retrospectively termed movement that popularized artisanal coffee, particularly darkly roasted coffee. Starbucks journey began in 1971. Back then they were just a roaster and retailer of whole beans and grounded coffee, tea and spices in a single store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market, back in Washington. Despite an initial economic downturn with its expansion into the Midwest and British Columbia in the late 1980s, the company experienced revitalized prosperity with its entry into California in the early 1990s. The first Starbucks location outside North America opened in Tokyo in 1996; overseas properties now constitute almost one-third of its stores. The company opened an average of two new locations daily between 1987 and 2007. STARBUCKS RESERVE ROASTERY Starbucks Reserve is a selection of the rarest, most extraordinary coffees Starbucks has to offer. It’s where we push our own boundaries of craft, developing a unique roast for each individual lot before experimenting with coffee as an art form—brewing, aging, infusing and blending it into imaginative and often surprising creations. Through our Roasteries and bars, we share our discoveries and the enjoyment of exceptional coffee with the world. Starbucks began its journey over forty years ago to make premium arabica coffee accessible to all while fostering a culture of human connection. Starbucks Reserve is our commitment to push even further, scouring the world for its most exceptional beans while evolving the coffeehouse experience to something surprising and multi-sensory.

CONCEPT A SIEN’S CALL The twintail siren is a signature of Star- bucks. A twin tailed siren is known to be those who lure their victims on the sea with their beautiful voice, and after getting their bait, seduce then, and then induce them. Refering back to the star- buck's concept as a coffee shop, they do not plan to kill anyone, infact they wanted the smell of their coffee to lure potential customers in purchasing their product. The shape of the gas coming out is some sort of wavy and mandering feel. As the further the gas travels, it also fades the further it goes. It also prolifer- ates or spreads the further it travels, spreading it to the world. MOODBOARD The mood for this design is an industrial rustic mood. Starbucks signature design for its cafe interiors are basically playing with wood textures, making the interiors rustic. Starbucks reserved however gives off a industrisl vibe. With the 2 combine, the whole design would basically be a rustic industrial intrior. With flowy lines representing the concept, incorperated with the wood, is an extremely perfect combination.

PERSPECTIVES Reception & Waiting Area Sky Cafe Interactive Structure This is an interactive structure for visitors to place their drawn Starbucks cup onto the structure. The struc- ture’s height starts from the ground floor level up to the sky cafe. The tube in the middle of the structure collects rain water and is recycled at the float test area. Visitors at the sky cafe can also place their cups on the structure as well. This structure is to make use of the used plastic cups that are usually thrown away. The employees can collect the cups much easier this way, and at the same time, visitors can have some fun with the cups, knowing they will be recycled after the structure ran out of spaces.
