MET METAMORPHOSIS. A change of physical form or substance. Like a butterfly, we are set to undergo our very own metamorphosis to transform into the most beautiful that we can be, from an immature form into a fully developed human being capable of making the right choices and making significant changes where it is required. We are encouraged to push boundaries and question untimely beliefs, to transform into people who do the right things during the time it matters most. This is PROJECT MET. Come with us as we traverse together through the metamorphosis.

9 Tips to Help Cope with Stress Talk about your feelings Talking about your feelings is not a sign of weakness. In fact, it is part of taking charge of your well-being and doing what you can do to stay healthy. Communicating the problems you’ve been carrying around your head can relieve yourself from stress. Just being listened to can help you feel supported and less alone. It works both ways. Opening up might encourage others to do the same. Active lifestyle A lot of studies have shown exercising releases chemicals in the brain that make you feel good. Exercising regularly boosts self-esteem and helps in concentration, sleep, and feel better. Exercising does not just mean doing sports or going to the gym. Walking, gardening or housework can also keep you active. Healthy Diet The food that we eat has a strong link between how we feel, for example, caffeine and sugar can have an immediate effect. A diet that is good for physical health is also good for your mental health. Drink Responsibly People often drink alcoholic beverages to change their mood. Some people drink due to fear or loneliness, however, the effect is just temporary. When the effect wears off, people feel worse because of the way alcohol withdrawal symptoms affect the brain and the rest of the body. Keep in touch Working in relationships that make you feel loved or valued is worthwhile. However if you think someone is damaging your mental health, then it may be best to stay awa from them or call it a day completely. It’s alright to put an end to a relationship in a way that works for both of you. MET AMO RPH OSIS PROJECT

Ask for help Sometimes we get tired or overwhelmed by how we feel or whenever things don’t go as planned. If things are getting too much for you and you feel you can’t cope alone, ask for help. Your family and friends can listen to you or may offer practical help. No one is superhuman, it is alright to ask for help. Take a break Taking a break or changing your pace is good for your mental health. It can be a 10-minute break from cleaning your house, an hour lunch break at work or a weekend getaway to explore something new. Enjoying yourself helps relieve stress. Accept who you are “Being happy with who I am now means I enjoy living in the moment.” Be proud of who you are and recognise and accept what you are not good at, but focus on what you are good at. MET Care for others AMO “Friends are really important… We help each RPH other whenever we can, so it’s a two-way street OSIS PROJECT and supporting them uplifts me.” Taking care of others is often a key aspect of keeping up relationships with people close to you. In fact, it brings you closer together.

Talking about mental health If someone is struggling with their mental health it can be difficult for you to know what to do. It is important to take action immediately whenever you are aware there is an issue. Waiting and hoping they will ask for your help might lose valuable time in providing them support they need. Communicating to someone is often the first step to take when you are aware they are going through a hard time. This way you will find out what their problem is and figure out what you can do to help. Eight tips for talking about mental health 1. Set time aside with no distractions It is important to provide an open and non judgemental space with no distractions. 2. Let them share as much or as little as they want to Let them lead the discussion at their own pace. Don’t put pressure on them to tell you anything they aren’t ready to talk about. Talking can take a lot of trust and courage. You might be the first person they have been able to talk to about this. 3. Don't try to diagnose or second guess their feelings You probably aren’t a medical expert and, while you may be happy to talk and offer support, you aren’t a trained counsellor. Try not to make assumptions about what is wrong or jump in too quickly with your own diagnosis or solutions. 4. Keep questions open ended Say Why don’t you tell me how you are feeling? rather than I can see you are feeling very lowTry to keep your language neutral. Give the person time to answer and try not to grill them with too many questions. 5. Talk about wellbeing. Talk about ways of de-stressing or practicing self-care and ask if they find anything helpful. Exercising, having a healthy diet and getting a good night sleep can help protect mental health and sustain wellbeing. MET 6. Listen carefully to what they tell you AMO Repeat what they have said back to them to ensure you have understood it. You don’t RPH have to agree with what they are saying, but by showing you understand how they feel, OSIS PROJECT you are letting them know you respect their feelings. 7. Offer them help in seeking professional support and provide information on ways to do this You might want to offer to go to the GP with them, or help them talk to a friend or family member. Try not to take control and allow them to make decisions. 8. Know your limits Ask for help or signpost if the problem is serious. If you believe they are in immediate danger or they have injuries that need medical attention, you need to take action to make sure they are safe. More details on dealing in a crisis can be found below.
