INDIAN REPUBLIC DAY Freedom in the mind, Strength in the words, Pureness in our blood, Pride in our souls, Zeal in our hearts Kindergartners celebrated India’s 73rd Republic Day with great éclat. The students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of unity. The students brought alive their passion and love for their motherland through the rendition of patriotic songs. The songs fluttered tricolor in their hearts. The tricolor crafts done by the budding artists filled everyone with pride and honor for their motherland. 52 JANUARY 2022

THE NIGHT IS JUST PART OF THE DAY “This is the end of the day, but soon there will be a new day.”-Bernard Williams Concepts give shape and meaning to individual facts, allowing students a far deeper understanding of their significance. Teaching conceptual skills makes teaching more meaningful. Young explorers learnt the concept of day and night through a Power Point presentation followed by a craft activity. This activity aimed at the integration of the functional grasp of the taught concept as well as the retention of the same. 55 JANUARY 2022

BUDDING SCIENTIST COMPETITION ‘Go as far as you can, young scientist. The world needs you badly.’ – E. O .Wilson Budding Scientist Competition was organized by BIS on 6th January, 2022 with great grandeur for the students of Grade I and II. The objective was to encourage young minds to research, understand, explore and present experiments about magnetic fields, density of water, learn about acidic nature of lemon, explore air expansion by using balloons. This set of experiments engaged and enriched children with lot of fun and learning activities. The students recorded an explanative video of the experiment and uploaded the same on MS Teams. The experiments were judged according to the presentation, introduction, concept explanation and innovative ideas. 59 JANUARY 2022

BHAVANS BAHRAIN HOSTS ONLINE INTER – BHAVANS COMPETITION ‘Hindi KaSammaanKare, Aao Hum Us Mridu Bhasha Ka Gungaan Kare!’ Hindi is our national language, a language which gives us the identity of being an Indian and stand apart from the crowd of countless many. To celebrate the origin and promote usage of this language ‘Vishwa Hindi Diwas Competition’ was held by Bhavans Bahrain Indian School on 8th January, 2022. Bhavans Bahrain Indian School hosted Inter School Bhavans Competition wherein students of eight schools of BhavansMidddle East participated with great pomp and show. The events that were organized were Poetry recitation, Advertisement presentation, and Doha recitation. Students staged their performances with complete poise and confidence. We are delighted to share that AmrutavarshineeMurugan of Grade VIII won first prize in Doha recitation, ParinaDholakia of Grade VI won second prize in Poetry recitation and ShivangiSarogi of Grade VII won second prize in advertisement presentation. Director Mr. HimanshuVerma, Ms. RituVerma, Principal Mr. Saji Jacob couldn’t stop praising them for their exceptional skills and congratulated them on their wonderful performances. As part of the culmination of Vishwa Hindi Diwas, all the Bhavan's Middle East schools held a special assembly on 10th of January in a grand manner. 61 JANUARY 2022

‘MAKAR SANKRANTI’ – SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ‘The greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals.’ – Siddharth Katragadda Festivals are the source of happiness and rejoice in our life. We had a special assembly on Makar Sankranti in BIS organized by Grade 1 students of Silver on 17th January, 2022. Makar Sankranti is believed traditionally to mark the arrival of spring in India. As it is the festival of Sun God and He is regarded as the symbol of divinity and wisdom, the festival also holds an eternal meaning to it. Students narrated how the Harvest festival is celebrated in various States of India. Harvest festival was celebrated by students with songs and dance performances in their traditional attire. There was also a candy segment added to the celebration, they talked about the special delicacies prepared to mark this festival. The Academic Co-ordinator Mrs. Preet Kamal Bhatnagar, praised the students for putting on a wonderful class assembly. 63 JANUARY 2022

BIS WINS INTER-BHAVANS COMPETITION IN WORD BUSTER “Victories are not born on the fields. One creates them during practice day in and day out.” – Silvia Pencak The students from BIS participated in the Inter- Bhavans Word Buster competition hosted by PIES, Abu Dhabi for the Bhavans group of schools in the Middle East on 22nd January, 2022 , which truly tested the mastery and skill of the contestants in the use of the right vocabulary. There is no joy greater than seeing our students accomplishing what they have been hoping for and working towards fulfilling their dreams. Bahrain Indian School finished third in the intense stiff competition that required tie breakers to decide the winner. The BIS team comprising Ayush Salin Nair (Grade 6), Raima Shefi (Grade 7) and Amrutavarshinee Murugan (Grade 8) proved their mettle in the exciting rounds like Analogy Round, Palindrome Round, Idioms Round etc. Commending the winners, the school Directors Mr. Himanshu Verma, Ms. Ritu Verma and Principal extended their heartfelt congratulations. 64 JANUARY 2022

It comes from ordinary abilities applied with extra ordinary persistence.” – Ralph Marston Bahrain Indian School organized Bhavanodaya on the theme of 'Patriotism to observe India’s 73rd Republic Day on 22nd January, 2022 under the auspices of Bhavans Middle East. Seven CBSE schools in the Kingdom namely, The Asian school, Bahrain Indian school, The Indian school, Ibn Al Hytham Islamic school, The New Indian school, New Millennium school and The New Horizon school participated in the event 65 JANUARY 2022

Principal Mr.Saji Jacob welcomed the school management and the Judges Ms. Juhi Sharma, Mr. Mandy, Ms. Kashish and Ms. Meghna Mathur. The judges Meghna Mathur and Mr. Mandy enchanted the audience with their captivating performances. The proud winners from BIS are:- Veda Nair (First prize in Fancy Dress competition), Esha Ashik (Second position in Mono Acting competition) and Atharva Aditya Balvalli (Second prize in Solo Singing competition). The winners of the competition were declared by the Directors Mr. Himanshu Verma and Ms. Ritu Verma. Two schools were co-recipients of the rolling trophy - Bahrain Indian School and The New Indian School. As the evening came to a close, school Coordinator Dr.Preet Kamal Bhatnagar proposed the vote of thanks and with the singing of Indian National Anthem the program came to a close. 66 JANUARY 2022

‘Wings of Poetry’ “Poetry is simply the most beautiful, impressive, and widely effective mode of saying things.”- Matthew Arnold Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. We are glad to announce that our budding star Abhirami Kaimal of Grade 4 Maple, has proved her ability at 'Wings of Poetry', an Inter-School Recitation Competition organized by The Asian School ,Bahrain as a part of Founder's Day celebrations on 24th January, 2022. She has secured the third position among participants from different Indian schools. Abhirami was felicitated by Mr. Himanshu Verma and Mrs.Ritu Verma, the Directors of the school and Mr.Saji Jacob, the Principal of the school. 67 JANUARY 2022

BIS MARKS 73RD REPUBLIC DAY WITH PRIDE ‘Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high…into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.’ – Rabindranath 12 Tagore Bahrain Indian School, celebrated 73rd Republic Day with great zeal and spirit on 25th January, 2022. The day was celebrated in the school with great eclat. An assemblage of events were put up by the students of BIS. A special assembly was conducted by tiny tots of Grade 1 Indigo to commemorate the occasion. The students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of unity by staging events like insightful thought, news updates, through-provoking talk, melodious song, mesmerising dance performance followed by a lovely tune ‘Vande Mataram’ on the keyboard. It was an impressive assembly which conveyed the message of commitment, loyalty and love for the nation. In his address, school Principal Mr. Saji Jacob congratulated the students on their tremendous efforts and conveyed the message that one should feel pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of Unity. There was a plethora of art being done by the students of all grades. They drew and coloured Indian Flags, tri-color flowers, tricolor wheels, fighter planes with flags, Red Fort and the Qutub Minar, as well as portraits of freedom fighters. Throughout the entire school community, Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour. 68 JANUARY 2022

MATH WEEK & MATH MODEL MAKING COMPETITION AT BIS “There is geometry in the humming of the strings; there is music in the spacing of spheres”. - By Pythagoras. Math Week was celebrated at BIS from 03rd January 2022 to 06th January, so as to provide engaging and interesting lessons for the students in Grade I- XI. Students throughout all grades, participated with great enthusiasm and interest. The school offered numerous Math activities designed to challenge students' thinking and to improve their math skills. By presenting their models on a variety of topics including division, times tables, 2D and 3D shapes, the students demonstrated their talent. As a way to engage them and sustain their learning, students were also assigned Number Word Puzzles to complete during Math classes, which challenged their reasoning and creativity. A simple and playful approach was used to teach the students basic mathematics. The students thoroughly enjoyed each of these activities. 69 JANUARY 2022

Dear Readers, The third year of disruption is going on but teaching and learning shall never cease. If cessation has to be witnessed, should be of insecurities and fears. As the pandemic drags on, we need be more vigilant. Irrespective of the situation prevailing, BIS would continue rendering services to students and parents. Now, with January coming to a close, lets brace up for the forthcoming months, which indeed is a period of anxiousness. Children, it’s time for burning midnight oil and to come out with flying colors. Do you know there’s a beautiful balance between fear and courage?
