CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS Building Department AWARDS & RECOGNITION Tony Tomasin was appointed President and Educational Committee Chairperson for the Reciprocal Electrical Counsel Inc (RECI) and board member of the Michigan Association of Electrical Inspectors. He was also appointed to the National Electric Code (NEC) Code Making Panel 13 NFPA 70 that reviews the next cycle of code changes. Mark Artinian was appointed President of the Southeast Michigan Building Officials Association. 2

CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS Building Department AWARDS & RECOGNITION continued… Gary Nauts was elected to a 2nd term as a Chairperson of the MMRMA Facilities Risk Control Advisory Council. Rochester Hills Building Department The International Code Council (ICC) recognized the Rochester Hills Building Department with an article in the May 2020. ICC Building Safety Journal titled: “Building Department Leaders: Rochester Hills pushes to be the BEST” Gary Nauts Designated “Post Master General” for his efforts to make sure mail and packages made it to the right department during the stay at home order. 3

CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS Building Department I N N O VAT I O N S C Chitra Neelakantan and Lisa Knudsen developed a process to allow our customers to apply for building permits online in March. The Rochester Hills Building Department was one of the first in Michigan to perform virtual inspections in March of 2020. The Rochester Hills Building Department organized and hosted virtual round table discussions on how to address COVID challenges with over 75 building officials in Michigan and around the nation. These discussions started in March and ended in July. The Facilities Division organized, setup and lead the City’s Return to Work Task Force. This task force developed building and administrative preparations in response to the pandemic which included a COVID Preparedness and Response Plan, Return to Work policies and protocols, an employee self-screening form and a PPE Supply Request procedure. 4

CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS Building Department INNOVATIONS continued… L isa Knudsen developed a daily log for tracking what staff was doing while working from home. This log was used by several other departments Gary Nauts and at least two facilities staff worked every day during the shutdown coordinating, cleaning, and preparing the building for the return of staff. Gary Nauts was designated Post Master General for all his efforts to make sure mail and packages made it to the right department after being in quarantine. Gary Nauts continues to work closely with Lisa Cummings to procure, store and distribute PPE throughout the pandemic. The Facilities Team performed extensive cleaning at all the Parks 7 restrooms while they were de-winterizing. Esther Chirodea displayed her innovation and creativity as she put together the Building Department 2021 to 2023 budget presentation.

The City of Midland received help from our building inspectors for a week during July right after they experienced a flood. Mark McLocklin was able to get the basement removed on Sandalwood and the property is finally cleaned up from the fire. The Facilities Team was amazing with their help during the election and handling all the lines and activity prior to the election. 16
