Lesson 10 May BODY SHAPES Class Du ration: 45 minutes Warm-Up: 20 minutes • Freeze Dance with prop (Suggested Music: Party Freeze Dance-Instrumental, The Kiboomers) • Welcome Review- Ballet positions of arms, 4-count curtsey/bow (Suggested Music: Anything instrumental or Rio Loco and Lucia, Kate Kuper) • Brain and Body Warm-Up with Circle Stretches (Suggested Music: Anything instrumental or Rio Loco and Lucia, Kate Kuper) Discover: 10 minutes • Introduce the Concept of BODY SHAPES (Straight, Curvy, Angular, Twisted) We can make our bodies into 4 different BODY SHAPES. (Show dancers the BODY SHAPE pictures.) This is a STRAIGHT Body Shape. Show me how you can make a STRAIGHT Body Shape. Say “STRAIGHT”. Great! (Continue with remaining Body Shapes.) Let’s explore BODY SHAPES together! • Explore the Concept with a Story- Read the book “My Daddy is a Pretzel” and copy the shapes. • Explore the Concept with the parachute. One dancer at a time goes under the parachute and creates a body shape. The other dancers try to guess what body shape the dancer is making. Develop: 10 minutes • Obstacle Course (Suggested Music: Shapes Song, The Kiboomers and Zoom, Zoom We’re Going to the Moon, The Kiboomers) See Obstacle Course Layout Prop Suggestion: Balance Beam Station 1 (Balance) Prop Suggestion: 5 Hoops Station 2 (Gross Motor) Prop Suggestion: 2 Poly Spots (same color) Station 3 (Spatial Patterns) Prop Suggestion: Hoop and Body Shape Visuals Station 4 (Concept Exploration) • Skill Development: Shaping (Suggested Song: Body Shape Jam, Kate Kuper) Appreciate: 5 minutes • Cool Down and Recap • Give stamps. If first day of lesson, give concept coloring pages. • Take Goodbye Train out of studio (Suggested Music: The Goodbye Train (Reverence), Craig Wingrove) © 2017 Andrea Trench

BODY SHAPES Layout Concept Obstacle Course Gross Motor Skills Station: Jump in each Hoop with hands on hips, creating an ANGULAR shape with arms. Add space between Hoops for an additional challenge. Balance Station: Walk on Balance Beam with arms stretched STRAIGHT Spatial Patterns Station: out to the side Tip Toe run from one Spot to the other with arms in a CURVY Shape in front of body (1st position) Exploration Dancer’s Choice!
