The Innovation ProcessUsually people tend to associate “innovation” with creativity and flashes of inspiration,however, in reality most innovations come as a result of a disciplined, planned and managedprocess. This means that innovation is approached like any project: setting objectives,defining phases and timelines, evaluating effectiveness and providing the necessary humanand/or financial resources.Traditionally, policy development has often been a linear process of analyzing problems in anabstract way and developing plans to tackle them as defined by a limited group of experts ata certain entity. The complex challenge of our modern world call for a different approach topolicy making, which is more agile and experimental.Today, citizens are placed at the heart of the policy, process and service developmentoperation; they are the main stakeholders and they are involved at the beginning of theprocess so they can contribute to finding the appropriate solutions through theirexpectations and experiences.Source: Mohammed Bin Rashed Centre for Government InnovationInnovation Awareness CampaignThrough a series of meetings organized by the Innovation Team, Mr. Ali Ibrahim initiated theApril 20 meeting with the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection seniormanagement on the importance of focusing on innovative ideas and keeping away fromtraditional ideas.He also stressed the need to support innovative initiatives that improves governmentservices and that contribute to addressing the economic challenges in order to achieve DED’svision Innovation Team

Innovation Challenge – Lateral ThinkingWe do not always see what is right in front of us. We may see what we want to see or arepredisposed to see. We may be convinced that what we are seeing is all that there is to see.But perhaps - unaware - we are looking from the wrong angle or even in the wrong direction.There are always more than one way of looking at problems. It can be easy to overlook themost productive or creative way of tackling things.Lateral thinking is a set of strategies for changing the way we look at the world, for findingunexpected solutions, for thinking in new directions. One of the keys to the approach isunderstanding perception - how and why we see things in a particular way and how to shiftperspective.
