In her almost two decades of experience Nadene Joy has notably witnessed how highly understated this is globally and how it is not practiced by most people especially leaders nearly enough. The illusion of being “perfect” must be talked about in real authentic conversations. Today, there there are more people, including many women, who constantly compare themselves to other successful women or people and as a result feel almost instantly “less than, unworthy or simply not good enough.” Stop now to pause and take a moment to think about this deeply as the truth is that the only person you were ever meant to be in competition with is #yourself to become a better version of yourself than you were yesterday. But first of all, who am I to tell you about it? I’m Samuele Barrili, and I’m the 1st Marketing Consultant for Waste Management Companies. It’s strange, I know. Funny enough, I began by studying computer science during the first year of my Bachelor’s degree as I was interested in computers. I had excellent grades but would spend my days in front of a screen instead of interacting with people. After a year, I realized I didn’t see myself living a life like this. I switched to hotel management because I love and want to be around people. I have always wanted to understand how people operate and hospitality has provided numerous insights into the human nature. Plus, I truly enjoy helping and serving others, so in the end, it was the right choice. From humble beginnings and a lot of hard work, my career began with my Bachelor’s program in Lebanon to my Master’s program in Switzerland with University Center Cesar Ritz. Sometimes we may fail, but if we do not take a chance, then we fail before we even begin. Risk taking helps us pursue our goals/dreams and to discover new talents/abilities. At the age of 19 years, I had to take my first emotional and physical risk. When I was 15, I suffered a serious left knee injury leaving me unable to walk. At 19, surgery to help me caused paralysis in my lower leg. Doctors told me I would never walk again. I created my own exercise program and taught myself to walk in one year. In 1989 after teaching eighteen years in small West Virginia towns, I needed new adventures/challenges. I bravely accepted a teaching position in Metro-Atlanta, Georgia. The transition was not easy. It took me almost a year to adapt, but it was the right decision. Taking risks involves courage, determination, and hard work. In 2011, I accepted a teaching position I have no regrets. I continued my Professional, Academic and Managerial Career till I became an NHS consultant surgeon with subspecialist of GI & Colorectal Surgery and clinical lead for inflammatory Bowel Disease Surgery, Pelvic Malignancies Management, Higher Surgical Trainer and Assessor and involved in multiple continuous medical and professional development projects.
