I believe that it has always been in me to be an educator however, my parents’ story further confirmed my calling. As migrants from Cuba, in the early 1980s, my parents struggled tremen- dously. Most of the reasons were due to a lack of knowledge of their rights and knowing the English language. As I experienced many of the consequences with them, I promised myself to always learn. I understood at a young age how essential an education is to living, in addition, I even- tually came to understand that no one can take away my knowledge. This also formed me into a servant leader. I want to continue to support disadvantaged families and students.
