President’s Comments (Joshua Vital) Joining NABA has been one of the best decisions that I have made in mylife. I have been a part of NABA for about two years now and I can tell you it hasbeen such a life changing transition and decision for me. As past treasurer and theincoming president of our chapter I have the pleasure of taking on a tremendousamount of responsibilities. My most rewarding part of this whole experience hasbeen helping our members grow. That is in the class room, work place and in theirday to day lives. Our 2015 trip to Las Vegas for our NABA National Convention wasnothing short of success. Our chapter has remarkably made an impact and took fulladvantage of any and all opportunities that were offered at the convention. I amproud to say 100% of our students a total of 15 had the opportunity to interviewwith some the most influential companies across the nation. The chapter went through a real journey before departing for theconvention. We collectively put in a tremendous amount of work to positionourselves accordingly to succeed at the National Convention. Between resumeworkshops with Alumni, Mock Interview workshops with administrators on campus, and or Industry Informational sessions with our Senior Leaders, we were prepared torepresent Baruch College in the best light possible. I am proud to say that weaccomplished that goal this year. Not only was Baruch College the most representedschool at the conference in terms of students attending, but our Baruch Collegechapter Team is the 1st place winner of the 2015 KPMG/NABA National Case StudyCompetition. There is no greater feeling than being a part of an organization andcollege filled with a passionate set of employees, administrators and alumnicommitted to developing its students professionally in an effort to build youngleaders. Thanks to your efforts we as a chapter have been able to leave a lastingimpression in the minds of professionals, recruiters and major companies across thenation. I strongly believe that every individual that has attended this conferenceembodies all that NABA stand's for and our Baruch chapter collectively as one familywill continue to lift as we climb.

Joining NABA has been one of the best decisions that I have made in mylife. I have been a part of NABA for about a year now and I can tell you it has beensuch a life changing transition and decision for me. When I first joined NABA andbegan networking and meeting people, I was completely out of my comfort zone.Throughout my time with NABA I have made special bonds with each member andhave learned to lift as we climb together like a family. NABA has really taught me somuch about myself that I did not even know. After prepping for months, becoming the incoming Treasurer of NABABaruch, meeting new professional’s day in and day out it was finally time to go to thecoveted National Convention. I have always heard stories of how going to theNational convention can be life changing, but you can’t believe its impact until youare there. I barely slept the night before prepping all of the little things to ensurethat we were putting the group of 15 worthy students in the best position tosucceed in Las Vegas, where it was held. The NABA National Convention was everything I could have hoped forand more. Not only did I get to see many of the professionals I had built relationshipswith in the past, I was able to meet so many new professionals. Professionals thatwere interested in me. We connected with other students from around the nation;people I can honestly say are now my friends. We met folks from Louisiana, SouthCarolina, Texas, Florida, and even California. I mean there was no better feeling thanto be in an environment that is dedicated to giving opportunity, uplifting minds, andgiving spreading the notion that “yea you can do this too.” At the convention I had the pleasure to interview with prestigiouscompanies like Wells Fargo and Abbot. I am going on a second round interviews withJohnson and Johnson. So this convention has paid direct dividends to me inconfidence, possible internships, and professional development. I am so appreciativeto NABA and the people who worked hard to get us there. I can strongly say I will dowhatever for the organization based on all it has done for us. The motto of NABA is to “Lift as we climb”. For the first time I canstrongly say that thanks to NABA, and the National Convention I am in a position toclimb. And that’s great, but the real beauty of all this is now that I am in a position toclimb, I can and will lift, as others have done for me. Yuliana Martinez

I am writing this letter to express my gratitude, to those who made itpossible for us students to attend the NABA National Convention. Because of allyour hard work and effort, to make such an event possible, I was able to secure aninternship opportunity. The event was a great success for me. Over the course of days that Iattended, I was able to network with many professional in my field of interest. Theprofessionals that I had a chance to speak to were extremely informative, knowledgeable, and dedicated to our prosperity. The Convention was a needed learning experience for me. I attendedmany educational events that provided insights into the business world. I was alsoable to learn and build stronger bonds with my fellow NABA members. Lastly, the friendships I have built and the knowledge I learned hasinspired me profoundly. The Convention has helped to enhance the skills I need tothrive in the goals I have set to accomplish. Again I must express my appreciationfor the individuals who worked so hard to accomplish and provide such aresourceful event for the students at Baruch College.Thank you, Jenny Lopez

My Name is Suleman Nisar, I am a senior at Baruch College majoringin accounting and minoring in information technology and social responsibility. Inthe summer of 2015, I was able to attend the National Association of BlackAccountants (NABA), National Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada. I candefinitely say it was a once in a life time experience and by availing thisopportunity I gathered a lot of experience from it. Not only did I get to come closerand connected more strongly with my NABA Baruch family, but I was also verylucky to have met professionals from all over the United States from variousIndustries representing various companies. I made life time connections which isundoubtedly very valuable for students and professionals alike. I was able to meetwith the Olympic Gold medalist Mr. Cullen Jones. He had an aspiring story to tell. Iwas invited to private and general receptions held at some of the most famous andprestigious restaurants. Besides all the fun and great people I met at the convention. I waslucky enough to be selected for interviews held on site during the convention. Iwas able to secure an interview with one of my most favorite big four accountingfirms by just attending one of the events they held and talking to a very helpfullady from that company. I believe, having landed an interview with one of theseprestigious firms was only possible due to the sponsorship given to me by NABA. Imust mention that my stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel was very enjoyable andconvenient as the convention itself was held within the hotel premises. CareerExpo was also a great event held during the course of my stay where I was able togather knowledge and insight about the companies I was particularly interested in,their culture and their goals. Suleman Nisar

My name is Tanya Tanis, I am a junior who attended the NABA nationalConference this year. My experienced first started when I joined NABA as afreshman and attended the eastern regional conference I just wanted to see whatNABA was about not really knowing the doors and opportunities that NABA couldprovide. My experience at the eastern regional conference made me fall in lovewith the club. I became more active and involved with the club by attending eventshelping setting up and advertising. I then ran for the E-board and got the position ofMarketing director. All this made possible one little change and inspiration that I gotfrom the conference. Through this experience I was extended an offer by Bank ofAmerica and was able to interview with various companies such as Abbott andWells Fargo. I was able to network with so many companies and meet so manyprofessionals who gave me advice on my personal path and career path that it wasa great feeling to be in a place where so many black professionals were successfuland proud. Going into corporate America you will not find as many people wholook like yourself being black but knowing that we are there and in full force tryingto make it on top moved me deeply. This convention has taught me that even if youdo not get something now try, try, and try again. This also helped with the bondingprocess of our club where I met people that were so driven and helping that it wasnice to know that people I met for the first time where so helpful and willing to bemy like a family to me from the moment we met. NABA has given me so manyopportunities in being prepared socially, physically and mentally for what liesahead. The convention is such an essential part in getting minorities of color anopportunity where it is difficult itself at Baruch. It gives the student an opportunityto shine and show their ultimate true self to a recruiter. I would have regretted notgoing if I had stayed home. This experience will not be found anywhere else. NABAis what every student makes it and I would like to say thank you to all those whomade it possible for the NABA Baruch Chapter to attend this wonderful convention.Sincerely, Tanya Tanis

We won!!! Not to give away the results of my main reason for makingthe trip to Vegas but my time there was simply irreplaceable. The 2015 NABANational convention was filled with new experiences and opportunities that I couldnot have gotten anywhere else. I am going to break all the rules of Las Vegas and tellyou exactly what happened there because I am so grateful for the opportunity I gotand if my testimony can allow for the sponsorship of another student to have thischance it's all worth breaking the rules of Vegas. My preparation for Las Vegas started about a month before the actualconvention began as I was selected to be on the 2015 KPMG case study competitionhosted there. Me being a freshman I am completely new to the world of casestudies, national conventions and even accounting so the anticipation for the studyto come was building for an entire month. My team was great and we could focus onwhat was important which was bringing home a victory for NABA Baruch that waslong overdue and we were going against University of Maryland who currently had atwo year winning streak. Although the competition was my first priority I knew thatonce it was over I would have the chance to network with the massive amount ofprofessionals and companies there, I had an interview with a few companies. The heat was on the minute I landed in Vegas accompanied by one ofmy teammates Teon Loncke. The minute we arrived at the cosmopolitan we wentstraight to our case study, we put our study shirts on right there and about 45minutes later our studies were facing us in Manila envelopes with our names on it. Itwas happening fast and I wasn't the least bit worried...that is until I saw the topicwhich was hydraulic fracking and after two sleepless nights and days preparing forthis none of us wanted to fracking hear the word fracking ever again. After thecompetition we just relaxed we went to interviews that we had gotten pre-selectedfor. We went to some sessions and last but definitely not least we went out! I meanit is Vegas we tried to not think about the results of the case which came on the lastday of the convention. After all of that, after the nerves the late night practicing thestressing the hard work they announced the winners of the study on the last night ofthe convention. Victory tasted like the most delicious slice of cake you could imagine,it was sweet. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in thisconvention so early in my college career, this has definitely been a truly irreplaceableexperience and I'm so excited to start working on the NABA eboard and help to givethese opportunities to others. GO BEARCATS! Malika Sampson

I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to attend the 2015 NABANational Convention. It was my first time attending and I must say, it was one of themost fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had. Not only did this convention provide me withthe opportunity to network with both students and professionals from all overAmerica, but it also gave me a fresh perspective on what I need to do in order to getwhere I want to go. There were endless sessions, all aimed at ensuring that everyindividual would leave the convention more knowledgeable and much moremotivated; I left more knowledgeable and much more motivated. While there, Iinterviewed with Wells Fargo, State Street and Deloitte and I was pretty nervous. However, before I stepped into any of my interviews, I met a variety of professionalsthat offered words of advice and encouragement. As a result of this, I was successful inmy interviews and I received a full time job offer. I cannot begin to express how grateful and thankful I am for those thatmade this possible and gave of their time, finance and advice. Because of you, I had alife changing experience that I think has prepared me for any challenge that comes myway. This convention is something that I think every NABA member should have theopportunity to experience. Being able to meet partners at some of the biggest firms inAmerica that truly care about you and want you to succeed is an awesome feeling. Solet us increase the number of members who know what it feels like when we say thatNABA is about “lifting as we climb”. Opal Parris

At the conference I was able to meet and speak with a multitude ofprofessionals from different companies. This allowed me to expand myprofessional network as well as be able to schedule interviews with othercompanies even after the convention was over. I was also able to learn moreabout leadership and the numerous career fields that are open to me as anaccounting major. Before the conference, I was preselected to interview atNationals with Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and McGladrey. While at nationals Iwas able to network and get to know my interviewers before my actualinterview. This helped me to be more comfortable during the interview processand give a strong interview. I am now eagerly waiting to her back from thosecompanies. The NABA National convention is a wonderful event of opportunity.Opportunities are literally thrown at you once you enter the conference. It isvery important to continue to support the sending of students to the NABANational conference. It opens many doors to students and expedites a student’scareer path. This in turn will reflect positively on Baruch College for havingstudents who become young professionals in a multitude of business industries. It would be a shame if students missed out on this great opportunity because offinancial hardship. If not for the sponsorship, I would not have been able toattend the National Conference and interview with some of the top banks andmidsized firms. As I and many other juniors alike are drawing closer tograduation, opportunities like these are a crucial additive to how successful weare when searching for a full-time offer after or even before graduation. Christine Nurse

My name is Wali Choudhury and I am a rising senior at Baruch College. Iwill major in accountancy but have not done much to get myself started in my earlieryears. I heard about the NABA National Convention but was skeptical at first becauseof the price, but I decided to take a chance and invest in myself. This was one of thebest investments I made. Other than the fact that Nationals took place in Las Vegas, which was enjoyable itself, I believed that even if I walked away without an internshipor job that just being able to network with professionals would be worth it. I metmany great people, both students and professionals, and understood the opportunitythat Nationals provided. Meeting the professionals was intimidating at first but once Irealized that they were human just like myself it became easier to converse. At first Ithought that most of the professionals would be from New York but going to theconference helped me understand that many firms operate outside of the city. I alsograsped the fact that you can live a life as an accountant outside of the businesscapital of the world. Speaking with these professionals also gave me the opportunityto learn about their firms, big and small, as well as understanding their individualwork culture. There are so many careers that an accountant can get into its almostimpossible to list in this testimony so I will not try. I was lucky enough to land an interview with Deloitte and Wells Fargo.Speaking with the interviewers made me realize that I need to really pitch myself tothem. I also learned that a conversation can be similar to a game of chess. You have topick your words wisely while being able to make the interviewer want you working fortheir firm. Although unintentional I was able to learn a lot from the professionals Ispoke with. One of my interviewers told me that he made partner at Deloitte in 13years. He taught me that hard work and persistence really pays off in the long run. Ispoke with a director from Bank of America and he told me that when you weigh youroptions, do not just look at the positives but also consider the negatives. Ask yourself“what’s the worst that could happen” and then make your decision. He used to be theCEO of the Bank of America Asia Pacific branch. Being able to network with so manypeople made me realize that on an ordinary day I would not be able to meet half ofthese professionals. I truly understood at that moment that going to Nationals wasthe right decision because I was able to make connections, hopefully lifelong, thatwould not be available to me otherwise. I would like to take the chance and thankNABA for a wonderful experience as well as my friend for giving me the right advice. Wali Choudhury

First and foremost, The 2015 National Convention was a blessing; ablessing in every way possible and I am so thankful and appreciative that I wassponsored. It gave me an experience to see driven young individuals, such as myself, strive. When you are surrounded by students as such and professionals, you becomeinfused in an environment that fosters opportunity. And in all honesty, that was thebest part about nationals— knowing that around every corner there wereopportunities waiting for me. On the first day I arrived in Vegas, it was such a sight to see. From thepalm trees, large mountains, casinos, 6 lanes highways, it was just all something totake in. Moving forward, after I arrived at the Cosmopolitan I went to the DeloitteRoad Show. At this event, I met Jamil Jones from Deloitte who was introduced to mevia email by another Deloitte professional who I met during my interview in NewYork. From there, it was connection after connection and continual communication. Most importantly, I will be seeing these individuals again in July for the DeloitteNextGen Leaders Program. Throughout the convention, I attended several sessionswhich were hosted by various corporate sponsors. From this, I learned about how torespond to certain situations to generate positive outcomes, about the usage ofsocial networks and another session about Advisory. The Luncheon wasphenomenal, much credit given to the speaker who emphasized the importance ofnot only bridging the gap between generations but more crucially, leveraging andembracing the gap between the differences within generations. Empowering to theyouths and creating a moment of realization for the professionals, the speakerdefinitely conveyed a powerful message. Also, I had an interview with Deloitte whichwent well and after the NextGen program hopefully I will secure an internship forthe summer of 2016. Spending time in Vegas allowed me to explore the area. I witnessed thebeautiful Bellagio’s water show, The Mirage’s fire show, and the Vegas strip filed withtalented people showcasing different skills. On the last day of the conferenceeveryone anticipated the outcome of the case study competition. And all at once, the entire Baruch squad had the spotlight when we were named the 1st place winnerof the competition. Overall, NABA Baruch really showed up and showed out and alsorepresented the excellence behind our school and chapter—that is just somethingspecial and we truly bonded as a family. Brianna Farquharson

The NABA National Convention in Las Vegas was truly an excellentopportunity to network with various professionals, and learn about the numerousopportunities available to minorities and other individuals interested in businessrelated fields. As a second year KPMG Case Study participant, I was again given theopportunity to represent Baruch College, in order to compete with six other seniorcolleges over a two day period. As the senior on the team, I took it upon myself toguide the team in the direction that I thought was most appropriate given the shortamount of time we were given (a few hours). The case was extremely lengthy andchallenging, and related to San Leon (a Polish energy firm), and its global frackingoperations. Having already taken Business Policy (BPL 5100), I was in an apt positionto integrate a strategy for the team. The hard work and a sleepless night paid off formy teammates (or fellow consultants) and I, since we ended up winning thecompetition, and dethroned the University of Maryland, who were the favorites towin. Though my Baruch teammates and I were not able to win last year(2014), I firmly believe that failure is a greater motivator than success. I rememberedworking diligently last year, but still falling short. Failing helped me to realize myshortcomings, and forced me to take on more of a leadership role on the team thisyear, in order to show that Baruch Bearcats are extremely competitive and strive forvictory. The KPMG recruiter complimented our team and said we, “really put BaruchCollege on the map,” on the evening of the awards gala. Aside from the case competition, the National Convention was anexcellent opportunity to interact with professionals. I interned at KPMG duringsummer 2014, and am currently interning there again. Because of the convention, Iwas able to network with numerous KPMG professionals from different offices, andbuild more connections in order to gain additional information about variouspractices. Teon Loncke

I was ecstatic to be nominated for nationals. The trip was an experienceI will forever remember and my time there was very fulfilling. I was fortunateenough to network with professionals and was also given the opportunity tointerview with Deloitte LLP. The feedback I received from professionals was amazing. It was feedback, which I was able to immediately internalize and incorporate. At first, the thought of interacting with so many professionals felt daunting but my peersdefinitely became my biggest motivators. There was a spirit of healthy competitionand we were all rooting for each other’s success. For me, this experience painted thewhole picture of what NABA was really about. I was able to form true relationshipswith the other NABA members and I feel as though the trip brought me closer to theNABA family. Although this was a business trip there was a balance of relaxation. Wefound time to prep for interviews but also to hit the pool or grab a bite. It was agreat venue and I was able to attend workshops and add to the value of theconversation. However, it all came full circle because some of the people we werehaving casual interactions with were also the professionals we had formedrelationships with. This made interactions smoother and less daunting. To be surrounded by a room full of successful black individuals washumbling and inspiring. I saw clearly where hard work and dedication would takeme. I am excited for next year so that I can expand upon my skills, expand mynetwork and hopefully snag an opportunity at the firm of my dreams. NABA to mehas become more than an on campus club but truly a network of people throughoutthe states that are willing to push and lift other like-minded individuals. Shawntell James

Joining NABA has definitely been one of my greatest decisions in my life. Ihave been apart of NABA for about four years now and every year it gets better andbetter. When I first joined NABA I knew nothing about the importance of networking, how to dress professionally, having a great resume, and knowing how tocommunicate and interview effectively. NABA members are truly my second family. We continuously work together to help lift one another as we limb to new heights inour professional careers. NABA has truly helped me grow as a person overall. I went from being the SCREP Chairperson of NABA to now being the Chairof Mentorship. In anticipation for the National Convention I took all I’ve learned overthe years and prepared myself for what was to come. I’ve heard lots about Nationalsand how it was the place where you get lots of opportunities, but I didn’t believe ituntil I was there to experience it myself. Before getting to the convention I had severalphone interviews with companies that were interested in me after reviewing myresume. This alone caused a lot of anxiety and excitement to actually get to theconvention to fulfill my goal of getting a full time offer after graduation. The NABA National Convention was exactly the opportunity I needed topropel myself into having a successful future. The convention was filled withprofessionals from tons of different companies trying to recruit students like me. Imet and connected with as many as possible. I also connected with many studentswho were there to fulfill the same goals as me. Not only were they kind, but therewere there to encourage and motivate others as I was. This convention was one of themost inspiring environments I have ever been in in my entire life. At the convention I had the pleasure to interview with big firms andbanks such as JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, KPMG, and Wells Fargo. I receivedan offer with Bank of America for their Corporate Audit Analyst Program and receiveda second round interview with KPMG. This conference has grown me as an individualand as a professional and I am so appreciative to NABA and the people who workedhard to sponsor as many students as we did. Even after graduating I will continuouslygive back to NABA and the NABA Baruch Chapter. It has done so many amazing thingsfor me that I never thought I would achieve while still being a student in college. TheNABA motto “Lifting As We Climb” will be apart of me for the rest of my life becausethere were so many people who helped me climb, and I’d love nothing more than tohelp others that come after me to achieve more than what I have. Leticia Turner

It was an honor for me to attend the NABA National Convention. Allsemester leading to the convention I heard so many great things about theconvention on how great it’s how so much opportunity there are, how muchcompanies are looking for young bright minds like myself; I have to say NABA 2015national convention super pass my imaginations and met my expectation andbeyond. For the very first time in my life I finally know why America is called TheLand of Opportunity. Thanks to NABA were I have been able to find thousands ofopportunity. First I would like to thank all members of the E-board from lastsemester for believing in me to act accordingly on the trip to Las Vegas. From thevery first day I got to the convention I knew the convention was an open door andgrace for me to explore my opportunity and do something great with mynetworking skills. On my very first day at the convention I got an interview withJohnson& Johnson. I was not expecting to get an interview but while speaking to anemployee who works for the company, she was able to pass on my resume to othercolleagues within her company and get me an interview. It was one of my favoritemoment of the convention; to see someone who doesn’t but within ten meet ofour conversation she liked who I was and able to get me an interview. Throughoutthe convention many different opportunity was award to me by talking to differentpeople. I was able to get five different interviews with companies like Wells Fargo,Bank of America, Boeing, J&J, Dow and etc. My experience at the NABA conventionhas been by far the most amazing convention I have ever been to. There is no setamount of words that can express my feelings on the convention. I loved everysingle day of the convention, I gained and also developed as a young professionaland now I am ready to LIFT AS WE CLIMB. Suliaman Onafuwa

This year was my first time attending the National Association of BlackAccountants, INC (NABA) Annual National Convention which was held from June10th – June 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was a member of Baruch College’s KPMGCase Study Competition team. The competition was the main reason I attended theconference. It was an honor and a privilege to not only attend the conference butgo as a representative of both Baruch College and KPMG NY. The competition wasfierce but still allowed me the opportunity to network with many of NABA’sprofessional members and KPMG’s professionals. The competition was held on Thursday, June 11th with the preliminaryround being held in the morning and the finals being held after lunch. I’m proud tobe a member of the winning team for this year’s case competition. I’m grateful andproud of my team members - who sacrificed and worked hard to be as strong asthey were - and the KPMG professionals who hosted the event. Finally, I have a lotof respect for the competing schools. After the competition, I met a few of theother teams and it was a reward to have established peer contacts from otherregions of the nation. For me, the convention happened to fall during a school term so afterthe competition I wasn’t able to attend the events on Friday with the exception ofthe career fair which is fun and excited to meet the NABA Sponsors and Partners. Iattended the event to socialize and was able to meet a few professionals who havethus helped me with redesigning my course outline from now until graduation andreformatting my resume. Friday night I was able to enjoy a little bit of Vegas andcelebrate with my team members from the case competition. We walked the stripand since I was the only one of four that had been to Vegas previously, I served asthe group “tour guide”. My team and I went to almost every hotel, we even rodethe roller coaster on top of New York, New York. It was a great experience! Finally, I had to leave the conference early to attend my sister’s collegegraduation in Philadelphia but I appreciate all that KPMG, NABA, and BaruchCollege provided me with in the two days I was able to spend at this year’s NationalConvention. It’s an experience I wouldn’t trade and I’m eternally grateful to allthree entities for providing me with knowledge, connections and an absolutely funtime while acquiring both of those things. Melissa Siew

I always wanted to attend the NABA National Convention. Having theopportunity to attend this year’s nationals was an eye opener and has being a greatexperience. I had a chance to make new friends, network and connect with BaruchNABA family; it made me realized I have people to turn to once at Baruch. This is my first time being to the Nationals but I was able to navigatethrough the events with confidence and I had a great time, participating in theKPMG case study with amazing teammates and won the first prize. I enjoyed talkingto recruiters from different companies and even got an offer from KPMG for nextsummer. I never been to Las Vegas before and it was one of the cities that I wascurious to visit. Even though I didn’t get a chance to visit a lot of places in the city asI wanted to, I assisted the water show by the Deblasio which was remarkablybeautiful. Las Vegas is a whole new world. The city where no one sleeps, Casinoseverywhere even in white castle fast food restaurant. None of this would havehappened if I didn’t get a chance to be at NABA’s National Convention. Anita Toure
