This momentous event is testimony to the unwavering vision of our esteemed founder, Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, whose aspirations culminated in the establishment of a world-class institution, dedicated to imparting the highest calibre education to the student populace of Sri Lanka. For three decades, Lyceum, Nugegoda, has remained a beacon of academic excellence, sporting prowess, and extra-curricular achievement. Our institution's steadfast commitment to personalized learning, and holistic education, has equipped us, the students, with the necessary tools to excel in all domains of life, with many of our alumni making their mark as influential leaders, within their communities and beyond. The academic achievements of our institution, are a testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and faculty. We have consistently secured top-level performance in national and international examinations, with many alumni carving out successful careers in their chosen fields. Lyceum, Nugegoda, is also renowned for its illustrious sporting traditions. We, the students, have made our mark in athletics, swimming, basketball, cricket, and a myriad of other sports, with a string of successful accomplishments at both national and international championships. The discipline, teamwork, and fortitude exemplified by our student-athletes, have adequately equipped them to confront the multifarious challenges that life throws their way. I firmly believe that education extends far beyond the classroom and the playing field. Our extra-curricular activities provide us students with invaluable opportunities to explore our creativity, enhance our leadership skills, and engage meaningfully with our communities. We have excelled in drama and musical productions, media events, and community service projects, with a plethora of achievements to our credit. As we solemnly commemorate our 30th anniversary, I am filled with profound gratitude for the blessings that have allowed us to achieve so much. I acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our students, parents, faculty, and staff, whose unwavering commitment and dedication have enabled Lyceum, Nugegoda, to stand tall as an esteemed institution of learning. I remain unwaveringly optimistic about the future, confident that the indomitable spirit of Lyceum, Nugegoda, will continue to inspire and shape the lives of generations of students to come. MINUL MANMITHA Head Boy 2022/2023 Wishes from a Parent - Lyceum Nugegoda As a parent I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Lyceum International School Nugegoda on its 30th anniversary. It has been a privilege to have my children Thuhas Tillakaratne Kineth Tillakaratne attending this school and I’m grateful for the excellent education they are receiving. Lyceum is a place where discipline, hard work, mutual respect and cultural harmony is practiced to uphold the standard of a student’s life. It is a place where children are raised to the better future and groomed well to take the reigns of the country in future. At Lyceum, the education is imparted, and all leadership qualities are inculcated in students to lead the nation tomorrow. My children always loved attending school and never missed out on an opportunity to do so. It is a safe space that allows children to grow every day and reach greater heights. The teachers at Lyceum are very loving and inspirational. I am very grateful to the management as even during pandemic where the entire country went into an emergency lockdown, and all schools had to stop functioning, Lyceum resumed education within a matter of weeks, the school took a drastic shift with an entirely new system to have each and every child from nursery to A/Ls fully engaged to continue education. Mr. and Mrs. Grero had also understood the importance of a healthy body along with a healthy mind, and very generously have introduced a massive number of extra-curricular activities, where every child continued from a very young age. As a result, my children have the opportunity of taking part in Swimming, Karate, Chess, Choir and Scouting. Once again I would like to congratulate the school on its anniversary and express my sincere gratitude to the school’s founding members Dr. Mohan Lal Grero and Dr. Mrs. Kumari Grero, the Management, the teachers and everyone for their hard work and dedication in providing an exceptional education to our children. Happy 30th Anniversary Lyceum! Wishing you many more years of supreme success! LAKSHMI DE SILVA Mother of Thuhas & Kineth 157 Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY Message from the Head Girl - Lyceum Nugegoda A school is a walled building with a tomorrow within and Lyceum, my dearest alma mater, envisions that tomorrow for every eager young soul, who passes through her gates. Twelve years ago, when I first walked through those gates, with a mind full of curiosity, little did I know that today, I would be running out of words, to describe the memories, knowledge and wisdom I gathered, within the walls of this palace of knowledge. Lyceum is well known for bringing out the hidden potential of its youngsters, empowering them to excel in every aspect, such as education, sports and, most importantly, in life. As one of those youngsters, it is my great honour, to witness Lyceum celebrate 30 years of excellence. This year holds a special place in my heart, as I was appointed as the head girl for the years o2022/2023, which is an honour and privilege that I did not expect. I consider myself lucky to be growing up in the shade of Lyceum. Not only has it given me book knowledge, but, also, it has taught me how to conquer my fears, overcome limitations, and bring out the best version of myself in front of the rest of the world. I am proud to be a part of this esteemed institution, and I hope to reflect the rich essence of Lyceum through my personality and character. Thank you Lyceum for being my guiding light, along the path towards success. It is an invaluable gift that I am forever grateful for. METHULI SIRIWARDANA Head girl of 2022/2023 Wishes from a Past Student - Lyceum Nugegoda The role of a school has evolved dramatically in recent years. We now live in an age where knowledge on any subject at any level of interest is available to anyone with an internet connection. Therefore, outcomes such as building character - seeking to create better citizens, as opposed to just smarter people - should be what is increasingly focused on by schools. There are a few reasons for this. First, as alluded to earlier, schools no longer enjoy a monopoly over exam preparation. Second, external influences are stronger, harder to escape and, unfortunately, increasingly deleterious. They encourage entitlement, elitism and selfishness in impressionable young minds. Finally, a major problem is not a lack of knowledge, but rather the inability of students to use this knowledge to effect a desired result, or seeking the wrong result altogether. The question then becomes, how are these outcomes effectively serviced by schools? At the most fundamental level, I believe it starts with recognising that there is more to being a good student than good grades. Schools should aim to instil values of social responsibility and empathy, incorporate the development of general life-skills alongside traditional academic pursuits, and provide a supportive environment focused on personal growth. It is in this context that I write about Lyceum. It has maintained a resolute focus on the character of the graduates it produces, making it unique among comparable institutions. Many associate the name with discipline, either positively (as a parent) or otherwise (as a student) – but those in the latter category often grow to appreciate it nonetheless. Students from Lyceum are well-grounded - they possess fundamental values such as respect for others and one’s own self. They have a strong sense of right and wrong and the discipline to avoid the latter. The inclusion of public speaking and drama in the curriculum and mandatory participation in non-academic pursuits at no extra cost are brilliant examples of a holistic approach to education which prepares students for success in all aspects of life. I have benefited greatly from the supportive environment in Lyceum. My teachers went beyond the call of duty to ensure my craving for knowledge was satisfied and members of management were always willing to offer support when needed. I was allowed to challenge many school rules and my suggestions were either heeded or refused with explanation. All of this served to build my confidence and teach me important life and professional skills I would otherwise not have been able to develop. It would be wrong to say that Lyceum is the perfect institution, but that is an unfair standard to hold it against and as far as the fundamentals lie, Lyceum has them right. In its apparent aim - to put a good quality academic education in the hands of as many students as possible, and to give those students a sound moral compass, it is a resounding success. The world is hardly short of knowledge, but desperately lacks people willing to use that knowledge for the greater good. In a world plagued by corruption, conflict and climate change, I have no doubt that graduates of Lyceum will choose to use their knowledge and skills for what is right rather than enriching their own pockets at the expense of others. I am immensely proud to be an alumnus of Lyceum and to have served as its Head Prefect during my time there. It has played an instrumental role in making me who I am today and I grow to increasingly appreciate the scale of its impact on me. It has been 30 strong years for Lyceum so far, and I wish it the best as it moves past this milestone. From the time school starts till the school bell rings for us to go back home, itʼs a journey of getting new memories and experiences that we will treasure throughout our lifetime. One such amazing memory of mine is how we prepare ourselves for the yearly concerts in our school. During this time, itʼs very hectic as everyone of our classmates, teachers and the management as well prepare to hold our concert in the best possible manner. I remember how we used to stay after school and practice our dance moves for the class items. Being a piano player, I even got the opportunity to play the piano at the concert. Fitting on the colorful costumes, dancing and singing and making ourselves better and better after each rehearsal, all those were fun times that I had at school and hope to have in the coming years. The entire section was waiting eagerly for the day of the concert and when it finally arrived, it was bizarre! Everything was so beautiful and vibrant. The Zeus Hall was decorated by the elaborate and creative handiworks of the art teachers and prefects of our school. Bright lights were lit up. And during the performance of our dance, everything went so smoothly. It was absolute perfection. We received a huge round of applause from the audience who had come to see our concert. This feeling we got after so many weeks of hard work and effort was inexplicable. The concert time will always be my most memorable times in my school life. And I sure do hope and am eagerly waiting to have such opportunities in the coming years on my journey with Lyceum, my ever loving alma mater. 170Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY Wishes from Students - Lyceum Nuwara Eliya 171 Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY 172Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY 173 Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY Wishes from Students - Lyceum Anuradhapura 174Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY 175 Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY Wishes from Students - Lyceum Kurunegala 176Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY 177 Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY 178Lyceum International School","30TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL MOMENTS OF LYCEUM NUGEGODA 179 Lyceum International School","",""]
