POLICE CAPTAIN Are you an experienced law enforcement professional looking for an amazing opportunity on the Coast? If so, we invite you to explore this opportunity with the City of Pacifica. The City of Pacifica is currently recruiting for a Police Captain to join in our mission of protecting and serving the Community. THE COMMUNITY The City of Pacifica is a beautiful community located on the coast, just south of San Francisco and is framed by the ridges of the Coast Range on the east, Montara Mountains on the south and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Rich in history, Pacifica is a quiet, family-oriented community. The population is approximately 40,000 with an area of 12.6 square miles. Pacifica feels worlds away, yet is easily accessible with the San Francisco International Airport being approximately 15 minutes away. Pacifica is a place where one can step into the natural world and enjoy a variety of recreational offerings, and later relax at a local restaurant and bask in a spectacular sunset. With so much to offer to residents and visitors alike, Pacifica is the place to be. THE ORGANIZATION Pacifica is a general law city and operates under a Council/Manager form of government. The City Council is made up of five members who are elected at large to staggered, four-year terms. The City Council appoints the City Manager and the City Attorney, as well as residents to various committees and commissions. The Pacifica City Council has a productive and shared vision for the future of Pacifica, and City Manager, Kevin Woodhouse has a collaborative and visionary style to complement and enable that vision. Under general administrative direction, Daniel Steidle, Police Chief helps ensure the safety of the Community with his team. The Pacifica Police Department is responsible for all functions related to law enforcement and crime prevention and is made up of several divisions that carry out specialized duties to help the department perform as a cohesive whole. Those divisions are Field Services, Investigations and Administrative. The City of Pacifica police officers operate at the heart of the community, ensuring the safety of those who work, live, and visit the City. Staff includes thirty-seven (37) full-time positions consisting of the Police Chief, 2 Captains, 7 Sergeants; 6 Corporals, 17 Officers, a Records Supervisor, a Records Clerk, an Evidence Technician, .5 Property Clerk and .5 Admin Assistant in addition 2 half-time grant-funded Community Service Officers. Together, the come together to carry out the Police Department mission …”To protect and serve the members of our community with the highest level of commitment, ethics

and professionalism.” The Police Captain will help the Chief and team carry out the mission of the Department. THE POSITION The Police Captain is a management level position responsible for the management of a division within the police Department. In addition, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising and directing actives of specific divisions as well as enforcing laws and ordinances and performing administrative functions. This position may act as the Police Chief in their absence. To learn more about the position, please refer to the job description. Additional duties are required as assigned. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The Police Chief is seeking an experienced and proven leader with a thorough understanding of modern police management systems and practices. Possessing solid communication, progressive problem solving, and dependable follow through skills are essential to the position. Likewise, the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with employees, other city leaders and staff, and residents and businesses of the community is a must. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative business partner and exceptional communicator who is actively engaged with his/her department and the community. The future Police Captain will be an empowering leader capable of serving a diverse urban community in contemporary and innovative ways supporting the safety needs of the Community. THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be: • Five years of professional full-time police experience in the State of California, with at least three year in a supervisory position. • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in or supplemented by courses in police science, criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field. • Possession of both Advanced and Supervisory P.O.S.T. certificate. • Possession of a valid California Driver's License. THE COMPENSATION Base Salary – $151,849 - $174,628 (refer to MOU for additional pays)

Retirement – 3% @ 50 CalPERS (classic); employee contributes 9% Medical – City contracts with CalPERS medical and contributes robust amount towards medical premium, that may cover 100% of some premiums Dental – City has self-funded dental plan (Delta) that typically covers 100% paid premiums of dental expenses and $2,000 in orthodontic benefits Vacation Leave – 11 days annually Administrative Leave – 80 hours per year (no cash value) Sick Leave – 12 days accrued annually Holidays – 11 paid holidays annually and 2 floating holidays Deferred Compensation – Choice of three employee funded plans Long-term Disability Insurance and Life Insurance – City paid This position is represented by the Pacifica Police Management Association and follows their compensation and benefits plan as outline in the respective MOU.
