Std: VI Shree Narayana Guru Vidyalaya Jodhpur Tekra, Satellite, Ahmedabad Primary Section- E.M Subject: Sanskrit Assignment-2020-21 Ch-7 सुभाषिताषि हस्तस्य भषू णं दानं सत्यं कण्ठस्य भूषणम् । श्रोत्रस्य भषू णं शास्त्रं भूषणैः ककं प्रयोजनम् ॥१।। Word-meanings : हस्तस्य- of the hand. भषू णम् –ornament,कण्ठस्य- of the neck सत्यम् - truth. श्रोत्रस्य - of the ear. शास्त्रम्- knowledge. (अनयैः) भषू णैः - of (other ornaments. प्रयोजनम् - purpose, need. Translation: The ornament of hands is donation; the ornament of the throat is truth; the ornament of cars is knowledge. (Then) of what use are (other) ornaments? काकैः कृ ष्णैः किकैः कृ ष्णैः को भेद काककिकयोैः । वसनतसमये प्राप्ते काकैः काकैः किक: किकैः ॥२॥ Word-meanings : काक: - a crow. कृ ष्ण: - black. किक: - a cuckoo. किककाकयो: - between a crow and a cuckoo. क: - what. भेद: - difference. वसनतसमये प्राप्ते - when spring time arrives. काकैः काक: - a crow is a crow. किक: किक: - a cuckoo is a cuckoo. Translation: A crow is black; cuckoo is black. what is the difference between a crow and a cuckoo? when spring time arrives a crow is a crow and a cuckoo is a cuckoo! यथा कितं तथा वािा यथा वािा तथा किया।कित्ते वाण्यां कियायां ि साधनू ामेकरूिता ॥३॥ Word-meanings : यथा- like, as, just as. कित्तम् - mind(thoughts). तथा -- like wise, same to. वाि: - speech. किया: action, deed. कित्ते - in the mind. वाण्याम् - in speech. कियायाम् -in deed / action. साधूनाम्-good people, gentlemen. एकरूिता- consistency, uniformity. Translation : Just as the mind (is), the speech is; just as the speech (is) the action is. There is uniformity in the thoughts, speech and action(s) of good people. सवतव ीथवमयी माता सवदव वे मयैः किता। मातरं कितरं तस्मात् सववयत्नने िूजयेत॥् ४॥ Word-meanings : सवतव ीथवमयी - symbol of all pilgrimages; सवदव ेवमयैः - symbol of all gods; तस्मात् – therefore, for this reason. मातरम् कितरम् - to mother and to father. सववयत्नने - with all efforts. िूजयेत् - should be worshipped. Translation : Mother is the symbol of all pilgrimages, Father is the symbol of all gods. Therefore (one) must make all efforts to worship mother and father. सखु ाथी त्यजते ् कवद्ां Page 2 of 5 SNGV/Pri. E.M/ II-Periodic Test/8-English

कवद्ाथी त्यजते ् सखु म्। सखु ाकथवनैः कु तो कवद्ा कु तो कवद्ाकथवनैः सखु म् ॥५।। Word-meanings : सुखाथी– one who desires comforts. िते ्-िदे ् - if; कवधाम् – education, knowledge. त्यजते ् – (to) give up, leave. कवद्ाथी -desires knowledge. सखु ाकथवन: - one who desires comforts. कु त: - from where; Translation : (A) person who desires comforts (he) must give up knowledge and (A) person who desires knowledge (he) must give up comfort. From where (How) can one desiring comfort get knowledge and from where (how) can one desiring knowledge get comfort ? (१) भूषणम.् Exercise Q.1. Rewrite the following words in good handwriting : (२) कृ ष्णैः (३) सुखाकथवनैः. (४)सववतीथमव यी (५) कियायाम् Q. 2.
