Lagos State: The Demolition Act… Demolition exercise by the Lagos State Government at Alaba International Market Lagos Nigeria https://rtc.com.ng/blog.html Do you know when a property collapses or gets burnt, the Government has the legal right to seize possession and change ownership of such property; If you already know this, you’re probably asking “So what does this have to do with demolition” well, this has everything to do with demolition, because the general narrative most people believe is that, once the red “X” is placed on a property for demolition the same legal rules of seizure and automatic change of ownership to Government, applies to such properties. The truth is that, according to law, the Government even owes you once your property is demolished. Furthermore, according to the Demolition Act of 1973, the Government only has the right to demolish a property within a location at a time, if such property is disturbing development, (Example: A building sighted on the part of a proposed road) only at this point can a property be demolished. The interesting point about this is that, even if you don’t have your document completely, but your proof of ownership can be ascertained or proved to a degree, you are entitled to compensation. https://rtc.com.ng/blog.html
