MrMs.r.JSeiamnonnetFtealKicamhazi Our HonoreesLighLtigthet tPhaethPatothAtoctiLoengAawcyard Simon Falic was born on August 11, 1960, in Caracas, Venezuela. His parents Nily and Fima (Z”L) had recently moved to Caracas from Israel to work and start a family, after which they immediately decided to relocate to the United States and settled in Miami Beach, Florida. Simon has two brothers, Jerome and Shahi, all of whom attended the Hebrew Academy. Simon then went on to study accounting at the University of Miami where he met his wife, Jana. After marrying they began their family, having Tila, Lisa, Shena, and Shmulik. Simon and Jana raised their family right here in Miami Beach, instilling in their kids a strong love of Israel, Torah, and Am Israel. Their daughters are married to Moshe, Gabriel, and Eli who all live in Bal Harbour with their families, and their son, Shmulik, is home attending the University of Miami after bravely serving as a Paratrooper in the IDF. As a family they are very active in many organizations that support the State of Israel: WIZO, FIDF, Ateret Kohanim, and various Jewish towns across Yehuda and Shomron. Locally they support our community through the Kosher Food Bank, Chai Lifeline, The Shul, Aleph Institute, and many other Jewish day schools and institutions. One of Simon’s greatest joys is being able to participate in a myriad of other charitable works across the globe. Simon and Jana are very dedicated to their family, especially their 12 grandchildren Danelle, Yona, Joseph, Rachel, Zion, Nathan, Alexandra, Racheli, Benjamin, Eliana, Eitan and Rebecca. The whole Falic family spends their holidays and vacations in their home in Jerusalem where Simon and Jana also host many dignitaries from all over the world. They are very passionate and focused on sharing the beauty of our homeland with everyone who visits Israel. They also take great pleasure being involved in bringing students from South Florida to Israel so that they may have an impactful and memorable trip and eventually become advocates for our one and only Jewish State. Simon loves to play the accordion for his family, watch football, and travel. He works alongside both of his brothers serving as the Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of Duty-Free Americas, Inc., which has stores across the globe, and is a co-owner and serves as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Falic Group.
Our Honorees Mr. Shlomo Krivinsky Light the Path to Education Shlomo (Shlomik) Krivinsky was born in Israel in 1946. A third generation Israeli, Shlomik grew up in a quaint village between Haifa and Tel Aviv. During his childhood, there were no electronic instruments in Israel, and so the accordion was the most popular musical instrument to accompany singing and dancing. Thus, while in high school, Shlomik was highly sought after to play his accordion at different cultural events throughout Israel. For his military service, Shlomik served in the entertainment branch, and with the military band, he played some of the most popular songs of the day. During the Six Day War, he was sent to the Sinai with his band to play for the soldiers when there were lulls in the fighting. Upon completing his army service, Shlomik attended the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where he received a B.A. in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Art Education. When he graduated, he continued teaching music in his village and in Netanya. In 1974, Shlomik was sent as an emissary by the Zionist Agency for three years to teach music at a Jewish day school in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 1988, he served again as an emissary for the Jewish Agency, teaching music in Jewish day schools throughout the United States. Shlomik taught at Solomon Schechter in New York, Yavne in Ohio, and Beit Yeshurun in Texas before joining the Hebrew Academy faculty ten years ago, where he works in the Early Childhood and Elementary School. He is licensed to teach in Israel, Texas, and Florida. Shlomik has been married for 43 years to Ariela, a teacher at Temple Beth Emet in Cooper City. They used to have a restaurant together where Ariela was the chef and Shlomik would entertain the customers with his accordion. They have four children and one grandchild, all of whom live in Orlando.
MrMs.rJse. JaenannentteettKeaKmahmahzai zi Our HonoreesLighLtigthet tPhaethPatothAtoctiAocntiAown ard Jeannette Kamhazi came from a family of five. She was the only girl with two brothers and was the middle child. She was raised in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela. Jeannette’s family was the only kosher home and was open to all visitors. Everyone traveling through Maracaibo from any of the nearby cities knew that they were welcome to visit, spend Shabbat, or just have a good kosher meal. The table was always set for guests. Her father made sure there was a minyan and her mother started the first mikvah. To this day Jeannette always sets the table for Shabbat guests. Alberto and Jeannette came to Miami in 2001 with Shlomo, Amram, and Mery. And then a little later, Joel was born in Miami, Florida. The first thing they did was search for a school that would teach the values they deemed important. They chose Hebrew Academy because of its solid Jewish education and excellent secular English studies. Jeannette and Alberto were also happy with the midot the school taught and wanted their children to be with families and students that had the same values as their own! Jeannette has always been involved with Hebrew Academy. She is always ready to lend a hand when help is needed. Jeannette has been particularly involved in Hebrew Academy’s Annual Event for several years, making sure it is a success! Watching Jeannette’s involvement in the school has made her a role model not just for her children, but also for the whole community. Jeannette was reluctant to accept this honor because she prefers to volunteer without fanfare. However, it is a pleasure to see her being recognized for all her hard work and efforts.
In honor of a fantastic music teacher & ruach maker, Mr. Shlomo Krivinsky Light the Path to Education Award Our students enjoy unparalleled love for music because you are their teacher. Much joy, laughter and ruach are the trademarks of your Shabbat Assemblies and anytime and anywhere music is heard during the school year.
May you continue to inspire our students to reach greater heights and love their heritage. Congratulations! Evelyn and Dr. Shmuel Katz JJ, Chantal and Elizabeth Katz Nicole, Jordan, Charlotte, Julian and Lia Kavana

A message from Our Head of School The theme of this year’s Annual Event is “The Sounds of Hebrew Academy.” I find this to be a most fitting theme as I have always thought that our school is very similar to an orchestra. Just as an orchestra has numerous sections: string, brass, woodwinds, and percussion, that work together to produce beautiful music, so, too, Hebrew Academy has several groups: parents, lay leaders, administrators, teachers, and students, who work together to create a special environment for learning and growing. “The Sounds of Hebrew Academy” also brings to mind the wonderful sounds that one hears at the school on a daily basis: children reciting prayers during Tefilah, teachers reading stories to eager listeners, students working together on challenging math problems and discussing innovative science experiments, laughter at recess and during lunch, singing at choir and during Shabbat assemblies, and the list goes on and on. Visiting Hebrew Academy is truly a delightful aural as well as visual experience. Each one of our honorees tonight has played, and continues to play, a vital role in supporting the school and helping us all keep the “Sounds of Hebrew Academy” strong, clear, and proud. We salute their commitment and express our sincere gratitude for their dedication and devotion. Rabbi Zvi Kahn
