KATA PENGANTARBanci Penduduk dan Perumahan Malaysia 2010 (Banci 2010) merupakan banci kelima yangdilaksanakan sejak penubuhan Malaysia pada tahun 1963. Banci sebelum ini telah dijalankanpada tahun 1970, 1980, 1991 dan 2000. Banci 2010 membekalkan maklumat yangkomprehensif tentang bilangan penduduk dan isi rumah berserta ciri-ciri demografi dansosioekonomi. Di samping itu, ia juga menyediakan maklumat bilangan dan jenis tempatkediaman serta kemudahan asas yang tersedia.Banci merupakan satu projek besar yang melibatkan pemprosesan jumlah borang yangbanyak dan mempunyai pelbagai data, maka ia memerlukan masa yang lama untuk diprosessebelum statistik dapat dikeluarkan demi menjamin kualitinya. Bagi memberi gambaranringkas bilangan penduduk Malaysia pada tahun 2010, Jabatan Perangkaan Malaysia telahmenerbitkan Laporan Kiraan Permulaan pada Disember 2010. Seterusnya, laporan yangtelah diterbitkan adalah Taburan Penduduk dan Ciri-ciri Asas Demografi dan TaburanPenduduk Mengikut Kawasan Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan dan Mukim, Ciri-ciri TempatKediaman, Ciri-ciri Pendidikan dan Sosial Penduduk dan Ciri-ciri Ekonomi Penduduk.Penerbitan ini mengandungi maklumat tentang bilangan isi rumah persendirian dan bukanpersendirian, penduduk mengikut pertalian kepada ketua isi rumah, jumlah ketua isi rumahmengikut umur, saiz purata isi rumah, jenis isi rumah, pemilikan rumah dan kemudahanperalatan isi rumah. PREFACEThe 2010 Population and Housing Census of Malaysia (Census 2010) was the fifth decennialcensus conducted since the formation of Malaysia in 1963. The previous censuses wereconducted in 1970, 1980, 1991 and 2000. Census 2010 provides a wealth of information onthe number of persons and households as well as a wide range of demographic and socio-economic characteristics. In addition, it also provides information on the number and typesof living quarters and the availability of basic amenities.The census being a very large project involves the processing of a voluminous number offorms and information and therefore requires a fair amount of processing time to ensure itsquality before the statistics can be released. Thus, to provide a quick insight on thepopulation of Malaysia in 2010, the Department of Statistics, Malaysia published thePreliminary Count Report on December 2010. The following reports also had been releasedwere Population Distribution and Basic Demographic Characteristics, PopulationDistribution by Local Authority Areas and Mukims, Living Quarters Characteristics,Education and Social Characteristics of the Population and Economic Characteristics of thePopulation.This publication contains information on the number of private and non-private households,population by relationship to household heads, total of household heads by age, averagehousehold size, type of households, house ownership and availability of household items.
