JSP’s Journey to be a Great Place to Work® Six months into our journey to make JSP a truly Great Place to Work and leading employer of choice, we step back to take stock of what we’ve accomplished, what’s still to come, and what we have learned along the way. And they have generated excitement and a sense of momentum among employees. Below is some of the feedback we’ve heard from Jindalites: “Great Place to Work has been a very invigorating journey for us at JSP. Interview with the CHRO To mark the six-month milestone in our Great Place to Work journey, we caught up with JSP CHRO Pankaj Lochan, who has anchored the initiative, to get his thoughts on where we are, where we’re going, and lessons learned so far. Q1.Why did JSP undertake this initiative now? How is being a ‘great place to work’ important to JSP’s business? We’re a big company and respected company now, big in terms of revenues and earnings, size of workforce, and the kind of large-scale intensive manufacturing business that we are. However, to become the best-in-class, and realise our ambitious growth vision, we must also be an “employer of choice”, both for the steel industry and in the wider manufacturing sector in the world! To reach that goal, while we have deployed our own formative methods & practices that will eventually take us there, we didn’t really want to entirely reinvent the wheel. We chose to co-create this journey of improvement with GPTW, which is one of the proven ways of doing that! The Great Place to Work® Institute, a global leader has helped organisations become leaders in the marketplace for talent – leveraging their proven framework to optimise our own people initiatives. Jindal | March 2022 | 23

Q2. What are your hopes for this initiative? What are you hoping to achieve, by when? Our ongoing journey of becoming an “employer of choice” is a marathon, and not a sprint! While we have taken giant strides in the past, we expect this to be another 3-4 yr journey. To drive this as our long-term plan, we will have to take successive annual goals, over 3-4 years. By the end of this process, we will be the most preferred employer in the industry, where employees are engaged fully and most happy to come to work and our organisation is perceived as very employee-friendly, progressive, and fast-paced. Q3. What has been the impact of the initiative so far? What are the key successes to date? We started in a very comprehensive way, by looking at the entire employee life cycle and how we could improve our management of each part of an employee’s journey with JSP. We designed a set of initiatives to address four key areas: employee communication, education and training, employee empowerment, and rewards and recognition. Through our partnership, we have now been able to leverage the Great Place to Work framework, grounded in extensive global experience, to increase the collective impact of our existing initiatives and a set of ten new ones. 24 | Jindal | March 2022

I would say perhaps the most significant impact so far is the overwhelming response we’ve seen to our new employee communications and listening initiatives. People feel that two-way communications have improved significantly – both explaining what the company needs from them and hearing their ideas and concerns. Secondly, we have made important strides on employee empowerment, education and training, as well as in our rewards and recognitionsystems, with initiatives like ‘Shabaashee’. Such initiatives have been very effective in improving the overall engagement level of our employees. Q4. What are some of the key challenges? The Great Place to Work framework is international and not specific to our industry or company. So, the biggest challenge was to customize the programs to be in sync with our long-term business vision and company DNA, while also working on improving all those elements. Our biggest success factor has been the significant bottom-up, active participation from employees, who suggested ways to improve our people practices. We were then able to co-create the initiatives with employees and the Great Place to Work® team, ensuring the best possible result. Jindal | March 2022 | 25

Q5. What have been your own key learnings from leading this initiative? What has surprised you? About my own learnings, the Great Place to Work® framework, built on experience with organisations around the world, has helped me a lot by offering innovative alternative ways of improving engagement with our people. I had my own experience, of course, and my personal toolkit has now been enriched with alternative approaches based on the successful experiences of other leading organisations working to build employee engagement. What surprised me was the pace of change in the various areas. While implementing the initiatives, our DNA of speed, agility and innovation again came to the fore. For example, our employee satisfaction scores jumped by nearly six percent in five months, an improvement I was expecting to see perhaps over a year. I think this is at least in part a sign of our people’s dedication to the business and eagerness to contribute to their best ability. Our challenge to effectively empower that contribution, and I think the impressive progress we’ve made so far is a very promising sign indeed for our future as a company. 26 | Jindal | March 2022
