“The founder Chairman of JSP Shri OP Jindal Ji had the vision to make steel by using indigenous coal. He shared very good relations with the architect of modern Odisha and legendary leader Shri Biju Patnaik Ji. That relationship was instrumental in setting up the plant at Angul. We are now focussing on the expansion of our Angul facility and transforming it into a world class integrated steel plant that will be one of its kind on the globe”. – Naveen Jindal JSP is the first steel-making company in the world to build a coal gasification plant to produce steel through the DRI route. The coal gasification route is an environment-friendly technology that would help produce steel using indigenous coal and help realising the dream of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Coal Gasification technology can help India to overcome the perennial shortage of oil, gas, methanol, ammonia, and urea. Jindal | October 2022 | 11

CRM – 2.4 MTPA Cold Rolling Mill with the Conventional Push Pull Pickling line of 0.6 MTPA and PLTCM of 1.6 MTPA (Pickling Line Tandem Cold Mill). This CRM has facilities to produce HRPO, HRSPO, Annealed products, Colour Coated sheets & Galvanised products. The company is not only focussing on the expansion of the existing steel-making facilities but also the holistic development of the communities living in and around the Angul steel plant. Under the leadership of Smt. Shallu Jindal, the JSP Foundation, the social arm of Jindal Steel & Power, is putting diverse, sustainable social development projects into action in the nearby villages of Angul district, and beyond to raise quality of life. In a significant effort to improve local residents’access to healthcare, the Foundation has announced the establishment of a multi-specialty hospital for which land has been set aside. Leader Speak WORK WITH HONESTY & INTEGRITY – Motto of Bauji Sh. O P Jindal ji D. K. Saraogi, Group CEO - Steel Working with Jindal Steel & Power for more than 3 decades, I experienced numerous springs and autumns. I can thus declare with certainty that JSP is a special institution where we are all part of a large family. Each employee exhibits a model sense of pride and belonging. When our revered Bauji Sh. OP Jindal Ji established JSP in 1989, I was among the first group of employees to join in Raigarh. It was a barren location with little amenities at the time, basically no utilities. Our road was illuminated by the vision of Bauji. He used Jindal | October 2022 | 19
to claim that this facility would strengthen us in the future and serve as the foundation for the entire JSP Group. “Work with honesty & integrity” was his motto for success, and it still motivates me. We kept facing difficulties from time to time. I recall that we had many different obstacles when our Hon’ble Chairman Sh. Naveen Jindal ji took over management of the Raigarh Plant. But his sincerity, commitment, perseverance, toil, and excellent leadership vision paid off. Only as a result of his visionary leadership has the JSP team been able to compete with the best international steel producers and become a benchmark of success. We all can learn so much from him every day. I also witnessed his fight and enthusiasm to democratize the national flag, which motivates every Indian to perform their duties with honour and pride. He is a living textbook for me because of his attention to detail, perseverance, encouragement of extreme ownership, and balanced healthy lifestyle. His enthusiasm, commitment to time management, concern for health, desire to learn and share information is a shining example of how to lead life successfully. The lessons I have learnt from him has helped me to succeed in both my personal and professional life. I am inspired by his vision, which is guided by the fundamental idea of nation- building and the development of world class facilities with cutting- edge capabilities to make India self-reliant. The cycle of ups and downs in life is permanent. Although the Boston Consulting Group named our company the highest wealth creator in the world between the years of 2005 and 2009, we later encountered really difficult circumstances after 2014. After having invested hugely into setting up of World’s first CGP-DRI plant that was to run on swadeshi raw materials, we were forced to switch to blast furnace technology and buy fuel from the open market. By the grace of God, we were able to successfully invent the CGP-DRI method for the first time ever in the steel-making industry, and as 20 | Jindal | October 2022
a result, our steel making facility at Angul is now a “technology demonstrator” for clean coal technology for steel making. This was all possible because our Chairman Sh. Naveen Jindal ji was thinking ahead of time and implemented the idea of a CGP-DRI plant when no one thought coal gasification would be a successful route for steel making. Today, even our Hon’ble PM Sh. Modi ji has called for a national coal gasification mission to help India become Aatma Nirbhar using coal in a clean environment friendly manner. Although CSR may now be a trendy term, we have been dedicated to it since our inception. According to Bauji, without accompanying townships for employees, schools, and hospitals, community development programs, his factories would not be complete. His views about inclusivity of all are engrained in our organizational Jindal | October 2022 | 21
practices, and the JSP Foundation, led by Smt. Shallu Jindal ji, is presently doing a superb job of upholding his ideology. She values perfection in everything, and that is the one key lesson I have taken from her leadership. I recall that in 2020, when the economy was severely affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, our company avoided making layoffs. Instead, it thought out of the box to counter the situation. By providing more than 5000 tons of liquid medical oxygen, building Covid Care centres in Raigarh and Angul, and providing more than 16 lakh people with prepared meals and dry rations, JSP helped save thousands of lives in 13 states of the country. It is because of JSP Foundation Chairperson Shallu Jindal Ji’s proactive leadership and Chairman Naveen Jindal Ji’s selfless service, JSP Foundation’s initiatives and influence have been recognized on a global scale. Now that we are recovering and on a growth path, JSP is working around the clock to implement a vision to expand our steel plant capacities. By 2030, we aim to have 50 MTPA steel manufacturing capability across the group locations. Everyone is aware that a company’s performance and earnings are what matter the most, however in order to successfully expand our business, we have further strengthened the “Nation First - People First” philosophy in every layer of our organization. With the help of various initiatives, we are putting a lot of effort into cultivating a growth mentality across all strata of our employees. Our employees are acquiring leadership skills so they may become national assets tomorrow. JSP is a people-focused organization that supports the success of all stakeholders. Shared success, in my opinion, is best. I see a very bright and strong future for JSP. Every stakeholder of JSP will immensely benefit from the growth trajectory that it has embarked upon. I foresee a future where JSP will be leading the world in creating a sustainable green future with a trail blazing growth story. It will be a jewel in the Crown of a self-reliant India. 22 | Jindal | October 2022
Nostalgia Remembering Our Bauji Jindal | October 2022 | 23
Nostalgia Ramashankar Paul A man close to Machinery Division employees JSP-Raipur Employees had top space in the philosophy of Bauji Sh. OP Jindal Ji. He took great care of their basic needs and comfort. He used to say his plants were incomplete without accompanying township for workers, schools & hospitals and even took interest to got arranged canteens at locations for healthy food. He also arranged screening of films for the employees and their families twice a week in plants. Even Ramleela was staged during Dussehra every year. When he was entering into politics, he called a meeting of employees for their views because he believed employees as part of his family. His memoirs still guide us. 24 | Jindal | October 2022
