It plays a vital role in numerous bodily functions and is crucial for overall vitality. In this article, we will explore the significance of hydration and its impact on our bodies. Jindal | July, 2023 | 23

Water constitutes a significant portion of our bodies and is essential for various physiological processes. Staying hydrated aids in regulating body temperature, lubricating joints, and protecting vital organs. For athletes and individuals engaged in physical activities, maintaining adequate hydration levels is particularly crucial to prevent heat-related illnesses and optimize performance. Moreover, hydration is vital for healthy skin. Sufficient water intake helps maintain skin elasticity and moisture, preventing dryness and promoting a youthful appearance. In conclusion, prioritizing hydration is essential for maintaining optimal health, promoting physical performance, and nurturing overall well-being. JULY 2023 – JULY 2024 Dil Se Dhanyawaad!is is to certify that Jindal Steel & Power has ssfully completed the assessment conducted by Work® Institute, India, and is certified as a great workplace. How Jindalites are adding value to our business every daycertificate is valid from July 2023 to July 2024. Every day, we see Jindalites living our core values: Extreme ownership,Better-than-before,Respectforpeople,andSustainability. Yeshasvini Ramaswamy Chief Executive Of icer In this and the next issue of Connect Magazine, we are delightedGreat Place to Work® Institute, India to share some excellent examples – simple, effective ideas by our people that have been implemented to improve safety, reduce maintenance time and costs, andt to the terms and conditions agreed to by the organization. improve production efficiency. All of these ideas were submitted through Mera Sujhaav our programs, Mera Sujhaav and Khul Ke Bol (formerly Aapki Aawaaz Karegi Vikas). Khul Ke Bol Mera Sujhaav is an idea-seeking initiative that encourages contributions from all employees by making the process of idea submission, approval and implementation easier and more transparent for everyone. Khul Ke Bol is a program of meetings with our frontline workforce to hear their concerns and suggestions for improving our practices. Jindal | July, 2023 | 25

Congratulations and Dil Se Dhanyawaad! to everyone who submitted these excellent ideas that are making a difference for our business. Keep them coming! Success stories 1. Patratu: Shear motor selector switch To facilitate easier and safer maintenance of the plant’s trimming and chopping shear motor, a dedicated selector (on/off) switch was installed at the site of the machine. When the switch is in manual mode, the system can be manually disabled so that maintenance can be conducted in complete safety until switched back to the working position. Additionally, the machine can now be shut down independently, without shutting down the entire system. This simple but clever solution has improved safety for maintenance teams while saving time and enhancing plant efficiency. 2. Barbil: Protecting the conveyer belt At the plant, 25,000 tons of iron ore fines, derived from raw iron ore, are fed and loaded on conveyer belts every day to produce iron ore pellets. Foreign material landing on the conveyer belts can seriously damage the belts, resulting in production stoppages. To prevent this, powerful magnets are used to regularly remove the debris. The plant has significantly improved the clearing process by modifying the magnet carrying frame to better position the magnet for clearing the belts. The change has increased conveyer belt functioning by 3.5 hours per year and reduced annual 26 | Jindal | July 2023

maintenance costs by more than Rs. 80 Lakhs. The improvement has also been a boost to the team’s spirit! 3. Tensa: Cleaning innovation: portable vacuum In the Tensa mining facility, high-voltage electrical control panels control the crushing and conveying motors. Daily cleaning to eliminate dust, some invisible to the eye, is essential for their safe and sustained operation. Cleaning routines using broom and blowing were proving ineffective, allowing dust to re-settle, and making cleaning more difficult. The plant’s simple but highly effective solution was to employ a portable vacuum cleaner, which easily and completely removes dust from the equipment. This solution has improved safety and reduced cleaning time by a significant 28%. 4. Raigarh: Designing a new drain cover In the plant’s Coke Oven, coking coal is turned into metallurgical coke needed for hot metal production. Drainage flushes out wastewater from the area to ensure efficient operation. The drain existed at the quenching car side where vehicles are used for housekeeping and maintenance. Ill-fitting drain covers designed during project time frequently dislodged, requiring regular manual adjustments, which took time and created potential safety issues. So, the in-house Coke Oven team made design changes toW the drain, replacing the earlier 6mm-thick plate with a new 16mm-thick plate for the drain cover, so it fits perfectly and prevents dislodging. This change has improved safety and boosted morale for employees in the department working in the area. Jindal | July, 2023 | 27
