Estes poemas visuais desejam revelar/mostrar as funções de alguns hieróglifos e ideogramas (olhos fechados, olhos abertos, setas/ flechas etc.) criados por mim para uso exclusivo de certas tribos orientais e ocidentais. Num dos poemas que integram este friso a mancha marrom é a tartaruga mítica na qual os antigos chineses escreveram os primeiros ideogramas da sua língua. A tartaruga está rodeada de fórmulas matemáticas, e no seu casco abrem-se os olhos que meditam profundamente.

These visual poems wish to reveal/show the functions of some hieroglyphs and ideograms (eyes closed, eyes open, arrows/ darts, etc.) created by me for the exclusive use of certain Eastern and Western tribes. In one of the poems in this frieze, the brown spot is the mythical tortoise on which the ancient Chinese wrote the first ideograms of their language. The turtle is surrounded by mathematical formulas, and on its shell, there are open eyes that meditate deeply.

Mostro uma palmeira brasileira que o vento açoita enquanto a água alaga tudo ao redor. A mão que segura caules é a famosa mão de Giuseppe Penone, aqui homenageada. E é também a mão do mestre que já não pode segurar firmemente a pena, o seu instrumento de escrita. Na última imagem as palmas agitadas no fundo do mar sugerem o navio que foi a pique no poema “Um lance de dados” de Mallarmé, quando o mestre percebe que a pena se desprendeu de seus dedos e pôs-se a escrever sozinha...* * No meu livro Caligrafias ameríndias (Medusa, 2019) as palmeiras são penas que escre- vem ou desenham livremente, numa proposta de prosopopeia gráfica.

Author’s Note 133 ||||| I wanted to record the sea level rising in Florianópolis and also Sérgio Medeiros on all coasts... I show a Brazilian palm tree that sways in a violent wind as water floods everything around. The hand that holds stems is the famous hand of Giuseppe Penone, to whom I render homage here. And it is also the master’s hand that can no longer firmly hold the pen, his writing instrument. In the last image, the palms swaying at the bottom of the sea suggest the ship that sank in the poem “A Throw of the Dice,” by Mallarmé, when the master realizes that the pen broke free from his hand and began to write on its own...* * In my book Caligrafias ameríndias (Medusa, 2019), palm trees are pens that write or draw freely, a kind of graphic prosopopoeia.
