FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR Hi Colleagues, \"The longer the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder\"-Ralph W. Sockman The above adage is an apt landscape of the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus, the temple of knowledge that houses SIMSR and other educational institutions. This quarter saw a rich array of events at SVV and SIMSR has been a proud witness and participant of it all. Each of these events has expanded the horizon of knowledge & learning of our faculty, staff, students, as well as all our guests. The footprints of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama touched upon SVV in early June which saw the commencement of the host of events for the new academic year. This was truly an ennobling experience for all who were privileged to participate in it. SIMSR faculty, staff and students were enlightened by His wisdom.The Focus section of Horizon elaborates this event 'Ekatva' celebrations, to commemorate the 55th Founder's Day was yet another event that has been a great learning opportunity for all of us at SIMSR, bothstudents and faculty alike. The visit of the RBI Governor Mr. Raghuram Rajan on the occasion of'Ekatva'was another enriching experience for all and we were honored to have him share his extensiveknowledge with us.This interesting article is covered in our 'Focus' section.Our cover story 'Beyond the Dream' in our Focus section highlights the significant achievements of six ofour faculty members and is an inspirational story for all of us.'The Director's Diary' in the 'Vista' section chronicles the busy, yet meaningful highlights penned down bythe Director. VISTAThe Staff Welfare Committee hosted a Garba and Dandiya event for the students and faculty in the monthof October which was widely appreciated by all.Somaiya Social Cell successfully completed the Joy of Giving week to provide relief to the J&K floodvictims. A total donation of Rs 14,595 was collected & donated to the victims of J& K floods.I had the privilege of traveling to University of Applies Sciences, Steyr, Upper Austria to teach a course inlogistics in the month of October 2014.SIMSR also welcomed Prof. Paul Marer-Professor of Business, Central European University, Hungary,Budapest on November 03, 2014. We are thankful to him for teaching a course for the InternationalBusiness batch of 2014 during his stay with us in the month of November 2014.On 08 November, 2014, the Convocation Ceremony for PGDM batch of 2012-14 & PGDM (Executive)program batch of 2012-13 & 2013-14 was organized with Dr. Anil K. Khandelwal, Board Member-GAIL, Ex-Chairman & Managing Director–Bank of Baroda, as the Chief Guest. Shri Samir Somaiya, President,Somaiya Vidyavihar presided over the convocation programme. It was a delight to have our students backat their Alma Mater to receive their degree certificates. The programme saw students and facultyresplendent in their convocation attire, inspiring speeches by the dignitaries on the dais, distribution of thecertificates, concluding with the ceremonial tossing of the convocation cap. OUT REACH Donate Blood K.J Somaiya institute of Management Studies and Research conducted a “BLOOD DONATION” camp on 10th of September, 2014. All the students, faculty and staff members participated voluntarily in the camp. In total, 50 units of blood were collected. This camp helped students generate awareness about their social responsibilities and they participated enthusiastically. The camp was jointly organized by “Enactus Somaiya Social Cell\" and “K.J Somaiya Hospital, Sion, Mumbai\" in the SIMSR Boys Hostel under the supervision of Dr Pradnya Kulkarni and Professor Asha Bhatia (Chairperson, Enactus Somaiya Social Cell).
