Except the school part, its space is continuously open for the public. The stairs and ramps connect all different activities together . BISHAN LIBRARY INTERIOR RENOVATION The existing library has idled for about 2 years because of the low-quality interior decoration, thus, the government commit us to renovate the interior. They want a Chinese-Modernism library which contains a Chinese-National-Library style center reading zone, a multiple back-set reading zone that surrounds a courtyard, with a steel girder skylight which can provide sufficient illumination. The chosen material - oak wood - is decisive in building a homelike space identity. THE EXTENSIONAL READING AREA THE FRONT HALL READERS CLUB

BISHAN LIBRARY INTERIOR RENOVATION The exhibition zone is located at the side of the front hall, people can see it directly when they go in the library. It is composed by 2 parts - The main exhibition zone and temporary exhibition zone. The exhibition panels in the main exhibition zone are made of gypsum, which is light enough and movable, the distance between each panel is 3600 mm. By securing the panels on the sliding rails, YANG SHUZHI @ TANGHUA ARCHITECTS

the main exhibition zone could be several spatial compositions to adapt to variable exhibition. The original condition of temporary exhibition zone is a water pool sunk below the interior level 900 mm, as a solution, I designed a 5-step stage, each is 180 mm height to resolve the elevation difference. The sinking space can be used as multi-functional space, such as exhibition, rest, reading.

BISHAN CIVIL CENTER Buildings Zone Semi-public space SEMI-PUBLIC SPACE ( COURTYARD & CORRIDOR) View & Circulation Path Semi-public space is the topic. There are two building located at a riverside, a 2-floor long-house which has a subtle curve shape corridor, and a 4-floor courtyard-house which contains successive courtyards. These semi-public spaces connect the circulation system, and lead people to get the best view point to share the river landscape. HORIZONTAL LINE These two buildings have a similar facade dominated by hori- zontal lines which can create a light feeling. 3 kinds of density and size window are gradual changing between these horizon- tal lines, from down to up, provide different indoor experienc- es. Compared with tradition office towers, it has more corners for better view, and it has more double-sided-view rooms. Another purpose is to make this building look light (thin) in some specific perspective. The 3 bodies of the tower overlay on each other and hide each other sometimes.
