Ten Things You Did Not Know About Organic Food Organic food is healthier for the environment than traditional foods. It's traceable from farm to fork, doesn't require pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, uses less energy, and is made with the highest respect for the animals that provide it. However, there's much more to organics than just that. Here are 10 things you didn't know about organic farming to mark the month-long celebration of The Soil Association's OrganicSeptember campaign. 1. It's more than just fruit and vegetables. While organic food is typically connected with fresh produce, there are organic options available for all types of grains, including wheat quinoa and rice. Organic foods also include the basics that can be purchased from stores like olive oil, sugar and tea. In fact, organics go much further than the kitchen, and include clothing, furniture and cosmetics as well. 2. Organic farming was the only type of farming available.
