Table Tennis Paddle A basic table tennis paddle (also known as a \"racket\", \"club\", or \"bat\") is used by table tennis players. The table tennis paddle is usually made from laminated wood covered with rubber on one or two sides depending on the player's grip. Table Tennis Ball The international rules specify that the game is played with a sphere having a mass of 2.7 grams (0.095 oz) and a diameter of 40 millimetres (1.57 in). Table Tennis Table The playing surface is a matte surface and dark coloured. There is a white side line, 2cm wide, along each 2.74m edge and a white end line, 2cm wide, along each 1.525m edge. The playing surface is divided into two equal courts by a vertical net parallel to the end lines. 22
Court It is a wide area wherein players can play around it freely while the table tennis table is situated at the middle of the court. Rally In table tennis, a rally is a name for a series of back and forth shots between players inside a point. A rally begins with the serve and the return of the serve, and continues with constant return shots until a point is scored, at which point the rally is over. Service It is the process of allowing the ball to drop and then hit the ball with your racket so that it bounces on your side of the table and then goes over the net and bounces on your opponent's side of the table. 23
Singles In singles, the center lines serve no purpose, so ignore them. ... Each player serves two points in a row and then switch server. However, if a score of 10-10 is reached in any game, then each server serves only one point and then the server is switched. After each game, the players switch side of the table. Doubles Like the singles game, the service still alternates every two points between teams, but it also alternates between players on the same team. Once your team has finished your two serves, you swap sides with your partner. The person you were serving to now serves and your partner is the new receiver. Let A Let is called on points that don't count. When you serve a ball that bounces on your side, then hits the net, but continues over and bounces on the opponent's side of the table, that is a 'let' and does not count. 24
Point A point is won by a player when the opponent cannot hit the ball with a racket over the net and onto the other side of the table. A game is won by being the first player to win 11 points, and be at least 2 points ahead of his or her opponent. Game A game is a format wherein a player / players need to score 11 points in order for them to win but if they had a deuce, the player/players who wins 2 consecutive rallies wins. Match A match of table tennis is regulary in a format of a best of 5 in order to better determine who is the overall winner of a certain bracket or a certain tournament. 25
