01 PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Principal’s Desk “Creativity doesn’t wait for that perfect moment. It fashions its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones\". The emergence and development of culture and civilization in this world, have their source in the creativity of human beings. Agriculture, art, music, literature, science and technology – everything emerged and progressed further owning to the creativity of man. Had it not been for the creative personalities from time to time, no discoveries and inventions would have been possible in this world . We depend on our creative abilities to help us adapt and thrive in increasingly complex and uncertain times. Inspired by our senses of sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell, creativity is a force that nurtures human development, innovation and an aesthetic appreciation of the world around us . Our physical school has always been buzzing with creative, fun activities for students to learn even the difficult topics at ease. But apprehensions stood at our door step when the pandemic made us to adapt to the paradigm shift to virtual teaching methodology. I am really proud to say that our students & teachers both alike have adapted to the new virtual environment splendidly . Keeping our foundation teaching grounded, we foray in term-2 with plethora of activities to foster creativity in students. Our belief in delightful experiential learning even in the virtual school has given encouragement to each child to participate whole heartedly. There are multitude of opportunities offered to the students and they are making the best out of it. “The world is but a canvas to our imagination\". With this beautiful quote here we go with the glimpses of our buzzing virtual class rooms ! Dr .Vandana Gupta (Principal, EuroSchool North Campus)

02 ACTIVITIES Students of EuroSchool North Campus participated and performed in various activities conducted by different departments like English, Science, Math, French, Kannada. Let’s see the glimpses of it.

Touched - By Tiny tots The Pre-primary children were taken through a practical and informative journey in a fun way wherein the concept of good touch and bad touch was explained to them in detail. The teachers brilliantly demonstrated the in- depth meaning of ‘touch’ in the most child friendly and relatable manner which lead them to think and be vigilant about such inappropriate behaviour.

Aa - Rr from Euro Junior The Euro Juniors section had a mesmerizing activity that was presented by the tiny tots on Friday, 09/10/2020. The students were dressed in different attires as letters of the alphabet and associated the letter with objects. They were able to tell the abbreviation of the letter name they had dressed as. The teachers were amazed by the answers given by the tiny tots. The purpose of the activity was fulfilled.

Gems Party in Fraction - Grade 4 Math activity on Fraction: To introduce the concept of ‘Fraction’, the children treated themselves with their all-time favorite GEMS!! The Math teachers capitalized on this and taught the children various fraction concepts using its colors. The terms were introduced to read and write the fractions during the activity which turned out to be an instant hit. The children showed a great deal of enthusiasm and were exulted and they successfully learnt the concept.

Animal - Activity by Grade 4A and 4B An activity based on adaptation in animals was organised in Grade 4A and 4B on 13th and 14th of October respectively. The students were to portray any one favourite animal and specify their adaptations in an unique way. All the children participated with enthusiasm and portrayed themselves beautifully.

‘To err is human’, especially when English is characterized as a ‘funny’ language! We often find our students being a victim to this ubiquitous dilemma! In this virtual arena, even the usage of simple phrases like ‘turning off and on a camera’ becomes a battle! The children unknowingly tend to use grammatically incorrect phrases, although the teachers are on a constant mission to rectify them. Thus, the students of 5A along with their English teacher came up with a brilliant solution! They made a chart, comprising a table of the commonly mistaken words along with the correct ones. This chart was then stuck right across their study table, so that its always appears before them! They came up with creative techniques of decorating the same and promised to keep adding on to the incorrect words list as and when the teacher corrects them. This has been helping quite a lot since, although they tend to err a couple of times, they rectify themselves even before the teacher corrects them. In fact, the kids also correct each other, exhibiting enthusiastic teamwork and a strive to improve. It is sure if every class incorporates this, the usage of correct grammar, pronunciation and diction will turn flawless !

Grade 6 -English Speaking Activity Cruelty Against Animals – Ideal Language class Language is all about acquiring four skills namely – Reading, writing, speaking and listening. For strengthening the speaking skills of students an activity ‘Discussion on cruelty against animals’ was conducted in Grade 6 based on poem – ‘Self- Contained’. The students made beautiful cutouts of different animals and they acted as those animals. They were put into different groups and discussed how humans treat them with so much cruelty. They shared some really interesting and some really disheartening facts, which were a real eye opener for both teacher and the students. Teacher Talk time was considerably reduced and it became a student driven session.

Activity on Simple Interest - by Grade 7C The children learnt the concept of ‘Simple Interest’ by using beans, gems and other chocolates. They used a certain amount of beans as the Principal and with the given Period of Time and Rate of Interest, they observed the change in the total quantity of the beans. Thus this helped them to understand the concept of Principal, Rate , Time, Amount and Simple Interest.

French activities – by Grade 9 French had a debate on \"Français vs Anglais“ ( French versus English ) Choosing their side at first was difficult. But once decided, their arguments were diverse and interesting. From its universal status to the opportunities it can provide, English had its partisans. French had its defenders as well, pointing out the numerous francophone countries where French is used to its status of language of love. English was considered easy to learn whereas French recognized for its beauty! But the winner of the day was French as whatever was the opinion, all conveyed their points in French.

Students had a nice time revising the sound of 2 or 3 combined letters. French is using the same alphabet as English, but pronunciation differs. As a small internal competition, students in 2 groups had to find words related to these combinations. A perfect way to recall the pronunciation of words and vocabulary ! The number of words found by the students was actually impressive ... and students were unstoppable! To conclude these few sessions, a friendly competition was held for students to guess the pronunciation of unknown words which included the 2 longest French words. Students had great fun.. and their capacity was truly impressive!

Kannada Activity on Dussehra – by Grade 3 Mysore Dussehra is the Nadahabba (state festival) of the state of Karnataka in India. It is a 10-day festival, starting with nine nights called Navaratri and the last day being Vijayadashami. The festival is observed on the tenth day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin, which typically falls in the months of September and October.

Kannada Activity on Dussehra – by Grade 3

The only thing we have to fear is FEAR itself. The tiny tots of Pre-Primary at EuroSchool North Campus celebrated Halloween by decking up in ghostly attire and posing as witches, vampires and other evil characters from their favorite fictions. The children enjoyed making the 'Witch'. Teachers also showed a video to make students aware of the origin and history of Halloween and it's significance across the world.“Much like Diwali – the festival of Lights, the tradition of Halloween which is observed in the European countries also marks the victory of good over demonic spirits. The children had a wonderful time and parents too were seen smiling happily.

Impact of Covid-19 on schooling Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic took over the world, our life has changed. Our parents are working from home and we’re not able to go out as the virus spreads from human to human and we must maintain social distancing to prevent the spread. Life, as we know it, has changed forever. One of the biggest impacts of the pandemic has been on school children across the world. It has especially affected the government school children in India the most. For children like us in private schools, classes have gone online, and we are able to continue our education; however, for students in Government schools in India, this facility is not available. Neither do these children have a virtual platform nor can they connect with their teachers and friends. Their learning has completely stopped. Recently, the Government has drawn up guidelines for the reopening of schools all over the country. However, I believe that this decision is a risky one because the current situation is dangerously unhealthy, as the number of cases are increasing day by day. In such a difficult time, opening schools will increase the number of cases even more. I can think of two possible ways of restarting education for students in Government schools. We can use a large screen in an open area where student could wear a mask and sit far apart to maintain social distancing. The teacher can project the lessons on the large screen. Another suggestion is that NGO’s can come together and provide laptops or tablets to the students so that they can connect to the online world and continue their education. Education is a right for every child, and we should make sure that no child is left without education or the chance to learn. “The end product of Education should be a free, creative man, who can battle against historical circumstances and adversities of nature” -Dr S. Radhakrishnan - By Krishna Chaitanya 8-D

COVID – 19 PANDEMIC COVID -19 is an infectious disease which has spread all over the world. It originated from Wuhan, China in the year 2019. The full form of COVID -19 is, co means corona, vi means virus and d means disease. The symptoms are cold, fever , feeling tired[ fatigue ] ,shortness of breath. On average it takes 5-6 days for the symptoms to appear maximum it would take 14 days. It spreads when people come in contact with each other. It also spreads when someone sneezes or cough’s. The government has tried its best by announcing Lockdowns or curfews. The government has been categorizing districts as red, green or orange zones which helps us be alert. World health organization [WHO] has said that there is no vaccine or medicine for this disease till now. We can take precautions for our own safety like avoid going out for unnecessary reasons. We should always wear mask and go out, always carry a hand sanitizer and apply when required, follow social distancing. We should make best use of technology, teachers are teaching online and all the employees are working from home .There has been much improvement in the environment, like improvement in air index. Teachers Are Role Models Role model is a person who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness, live to our fullest potential and see the best in ourselves. A role model is someone we admire and someone we aspire to be like. We learn through them, through their commitment to excellence and through their ability to make us realize our own personal growth. We look to them for advice and guidance. A role model can be anybody – a parent, a sibling, a friend but some of our most influential and life-changing role models are Teachers. Great Teacher = Great Result Teacher just a word with seven letters but holds many meaning - Priyanshi Srivastava

\"Doing nothing with your life” Finding your purpose is something that people often strive to find in life. I guess it’s something I’ve struggled with until I learned something that I want to share with you today. I’ve realized that finding your purpose is not as essential as finding out who you are. “Doing nothing” with your life is also a huge part of this because every day I wake up in the morning and think that there are these many hours in a day, what can I do to make use of the day? One of the most asked questions on the internet is what is the purpose of life? The question has no answer but people really want to find out what is the purpose of their life so that they can fulfill that purpose. The purpose is everywhere but does that mean that we have to think with purpose? “Doing nothing” by my definition is doing certain things that don’t add to or don’t have a purpose in my life. For example, if I help out with chores it’s doing something with a purpose since it’s helping others which helps build a better relationship with them. Watching YouTube or scrolling through Instagram adds no purpose to my life nor does help me build relationships with others. Okay, I know that’s a deep definition of just doing the dishes or watching YouTube, but I hope you get what I mean. I always feel like there is a constant need for me to do something. I’m sure you see those videos where people talk about their productive daily routines and always use all of the hours in a day in a useful way. I struggled with that until I realized that I don't have to be productive all the time or follow a certain schedule. Not doing anything maybe that day or even that year (yes that year), was never an issue. You don’t have to wake up every day figuring out what you can do of purpose, because it never mattered. If you don’t do anything that’s okay and I feel like people need to realize that. It doesn’t mean don’t ever do anything with your life, of course, you have to be productive often but also you don’t need to do everything with a purpose. Finding your purpose is not something that I strive for. Finding out your purpose as a teenager is really hard since you don’t really know what the future holds. It’s not something anyone needs to worry about. Finding what you can do of purpose and importance can help you get out of your “doing nothing” patch sometimes but you don’t need to find a purpose in everything. It’s not important to find your purpose of that day or of that year, because if we’re being honest, where is that going to lead you? Probably into a spiral of what you have to do and finding the purpose in everything which can be detrimental to your mental health and adding to you overthinking. We covered a lot in this short talk on purpose and “doing nothing with your life”. This was something I felt I needed to write about because I’ve thought for the longest time that I needed to be productive all the time, have a purpose, and figure out who I am to be a good, ethical and happy person when I really don’t need to do all those things constantly. It’s more of overthinking that gets you into a spiral of finding the purpose in everything. After all, what is the purpose of finding out your purpose? Abigail Anthony

\"Tips to keep yourself relaxed ” We all wonder on how to keep ourselves stress free and relaxed, but I know we never get the right answer and even if we get it, its nothing but a 3-page article. If you are also a person searching for a simple answer which comes handy, then you are in the right place. Here come some easy tips on how to stay stress free. Tip 1: Never put an overload of work on your shoulders. We all indeed are procrastinating and it is nothing to frown about. A lot of procrastination would finally end with piles of work and with that piles of work, comes stress. So, taking small steps each day instead of having to climb a whole mountain at once is much better. Tip 2: Never have an empty stomach while having to work a lot. I am sure, most of us are foodies and you can count me as one too. Hunger makes the simplest of things super complicated. Some delicious food would come out to be great. Tip 3: Music is the best for staying calm all of us love music. Let it be Koop, Taylor Swift or any singer, we all love them, don’t we? Music is the best therapy for stress. The rhythmic strands of music make it impossible for stress to take over. Tip 4: Spending some relaxation time with family, friends and pets. family and friends make life so easy, don’t they? When it comes to spending some time with them, it makes us feel so comfortable and happy. Instead staying all alone and keeping all stress within yourself and acting cool from out wouldn’t help much. Instead, opening up with friends and family would help and don’t leave out a pet if you have one. Tip 5: laughing the simplest of all Laughing in sense staying happy all times or at least most of the times. Staying happy makes us forget those words such as pressure or force, staying happy the complicated become the simplest of all. Just to remind, the most precious jewel we all have is nothing but a “smile”. Hamsa 8D

Importance of Sports and Football Every sport has something or the other to offer. It is a unique opportunity both to sharpen our skills and for our personality development. No wonder Swami Vivekananda once said, “You will be nearer to heaven through football than through the study of the Gita.” Participating in any sport keeps the mind active and energetic not only physically but mentally. It helps them to enhance their physical and mental strength. They learn many things when they play a sport. Like we all know, winning and losing is certainly a part of any game. Children learn Acceptance when they lose in any game, in a very healthy way. This builds the Courage of winning it the next time. And when they win a game they tend to build the Right Attitude and Empathy with their fellow players because they would have once gone through the same situation. It helps them enhance their skills socially in a matured manner. The importance of sports in the younger generation is indispensable, it is where they learn very important things in life like discipline, sacrifice, self-confidence, punctuality, accountability and many more. Did you know that Football is the most popular game in the World? Yes, it is! Perhaps because, it is played almost everywhere and has an ease of accessibility. It is an extremely fun-filled game and there are so many benefits of playing football that you will want to play it all day long. Playing football improves, ●The Aerobic Capacity and Cardiovascular Health, an average player runs about 8 to 11 kilometers in a full game with the intensity for 90 minutes which keeps the player’s heart rate up, providing an excellent cardiovascular exercise. ●Helps reduce the body fat and builds ‘Muscle Strength’, tones the Muscle and increases Bone Strength. Playing football burns more calories than typical workouts, it includes a lot of kicking, jumping, tackling, twisting and turning which helps to keep the muscles toned and strengthen the bones. ●It teaches Body Coordination, which is the key to football as it involves a lot of complex movements like dribbling, turning and passing, which are performed at different rates of speed and directions. ●Promotes Teamwork and Sharing. It increases skills in concentration, persistence, and self-discipline because it is a fast- paced game that requires quick decisions on the field. With regards to all this, the most certain fact of being healthier is eating healthy. We should all aim to eat healthy. When physically active, your body will use up more energy (calories). Consume more liquid foods, like any fruit juice, buttermilk, milk (450 ml per day) etc. We must eat a lot of proteins like sprouts, pulses, boiled eggs, all kinds of Fruits, vegetables, etc. Most importantly, Drink plenty of Water, keep yourself hydrated!! “IF YOU ARE NOT FIT PHYSICALLY, IF YOU CAN’T FOCUS ON YOUR HEALTH, THEN YOU CAN’T FOCUS ON ANYTHING.” Deepak.S (Physical Education Instructor - Cum- Football coach)
