YEARBBake Sale 6-2017DeBakey’s Rota, Best buddies, Lend-a-Hand Club, Student Council, and Senior Officeorganized bake sales throughout the year to raise money for local and international charities and for various student events.  OOK 201 62

YEARB 6-2017 Twin Day The Senior Office organized the Twin Day event as part of the Spirit Days initiative to rally school spirit, promote fun, and help them collect funds for their annual banquet and senior trip. OOK 201 63

YEARB 6-2017 Think Pink Day In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, students of the Senior Office organized a “Think Pink Day” at which nursing students from the University of Calgary arranged informational activities concerning cancer awareness and prevention. OOK 201 65

YEARBDiabetes 6-2017 Walkathon Students participated in theannual Diabetes Walkathon at the Museum of Islamic Park (MIA) to raise awareness and contribute towards positive cause. OOK 201 66

YEARB 6-2017 DeBakey Best Buddies DeBakey’s Best Buddies Club was awarded ‘Promoter’ recognition this year. They held several activities concerning awareness of how to interact with students having intellectual disabilities, as well as organizing fun events with students throughout the school year. Some of the events included a teacher’s café, ceramic painting, carnival games, autism awareness, and sport activities. OOK 201 67

YEARB 6-2017 INJAZ Program DeBakey Middle and High school students successfully completed their three-week Injaz courses during first and second semester. OOK 201 69

YEARB Injaz 6-2017 Business plan This was the first year for our students to participate in ‘Injaz Mubadar Competition’  and the team competedas finalists in all of Qatar. During the school year, the team underwent the life cycle of a business where they started acompany, created a product, devised a business plan and completed several live presentations. Lots of hard work and dedication! OOK 201 70

YEARB 6-2017 National Scientific Research Competition Four teams from DeBakey qualified to enter the National Scientific Research Competition sponsored by the MOEHE and QNRF, QF R&D.  The Biomedical team won first prize from Weill Cornell and HBK, and the Social Science team won special recognition from Northwestern University and third place overall. YEARBParent / 6-2017 Teacher ConferencePTC is a formal conference betweenParents and Teachers that takes place twice a year to discuss students’ academic progress throughout the semester. Parents have the opportunity to meet individually with teachers as well to converse on a specific concern.   OOK 201 72

YEARB 6-2017 University Expo Many university visits occurred during the year from institutions from the USA, Canada, UK , Qatar and other regions including the Middle East.  OOK 201 73

YEARB 6-2017 BLS / CPR HST 1 students and teachers became certified after eight hours of training by Hamad training center in CPR and basic life support to adults, children, and infants in life threatening emergencies.  OOK 201 75

YEARBHamad 6-2017 Hospital Rotations Senior students participated andbecame certified in Hamad rotations observership program, where theyexplored the various departments at Hamad hospital in order to make an informed decision about their future medical careers. OOK 201 76

YEARB 6-2017 World Heart Day UCQ students displayed a World Heart Day Booth at DeBakey High School along with our students. Awareness was spread by distributing pamplets and explanations with models. OOK 201 77

YEARBQuran 6-2017 Competition & Spelling BeeDeBakey boys and girls competed inthe Quran Competition. Many of themreceived high recognition and scores. In addition, the Grade 6 top three winners of DeBakey’s Spelling Bee from March Madness participated in Step One School’s multi- school Spelling Bee Competition. OOK 201 80

YEARB 6-2017 Visual Arts Forum of India Workshop (VAFI) DeBakey students participated in the workshop organized by VAFI (Visual Arts Forum of India) held at Birla Public School.Our Students got an opportunity to interact with self- taught and renowned artist Dr.Sreekumar Padmanabhan(President of VAFI) and his excellent team of artists exhibiting their unique style. Students also created their own master piece based on one of the artist’s paintings. OOK 201 81

YEARBSouth Africa 6-2017 & Texture 8 Art CompetitionToolika Art Exhibition was held at our school showing hundreds of art and craft pieces,including a live portrait competition. Overall, our students had a great experience and they showed their talents. Also, one of our students - Mariam Ali, G.8 - participated in the South African Embassy Art Competition. OOK 201 82

YEARB 6-2017 Robotics Olympiad DeBakey middle school students competed in the Olympiad of Robotics at the College of the North Atlantic where they were able to build a paper recycling machine using ev3. They won 4th place in the open category under the theme, “Design a recycling machine to save the environment.” OOK 201 83

YEARB 6-2017 Shams Generation Grade 6 Art students created some of the most iconic landmarks of Doha, while the Tech Club students built two projects while embedding solar panels: a jacket to cool down the person while in hot weather and a handy vacuum cleaner that works on batteries which are connected to solar panels. All these projects were displayed at the Fire Station during the Shams Generation exhibition. OOK 201 85

YEARB World 6-2017 Scholars Students competed in the World Scholar’s Cup–Doha and wonopportunities to compete in the global competition. The theme of the tournament was “An Unlikely World” and included four competitive categories. OOK 201 86

YEARB 6-2017 Student Volunteers Due to their high level of responsibility and maturity, DeBakey students were called on to act as student volunteers and ushers in three different major events: Qatar First Public Health Strategy Launch event, Creative Space Lab, and the Digital Youth Festival event. YEARB Senior Office- 6-2017 student Council - Class Representative- Student Ambassador School elections were held for Student Council (High School), ClassRepresentatives (Middle School), SeniorOffice (G12), and Student Ambassador (G6-12). Students needed to meet academic requirements and run a full campaign with their classmates. OOK 201 88

YEARBTexas A&M 6-2017 Fame ConferenceTop students were selected to participate in the 2-day FAME Conference held at TAMU-Qatar. The students shared knowlege, worked in teams, and presented their assignments.  OOK 201 90

YEARB 6-2017 George Town- Model United Nations DeBakey students participated in the Planet Georgetown annual week-long, after- school spring program, which is geared towards personal and academic skill building of high school students. The program theme this year was “Conflict of Our World”. OOK 201 91

YEARBGeorge Town- 6-2017Planet George Town DeBakey students participated in the Georgetown-Qatar’s Model United Nations 2017 Conference, a simulation in diplomatic excellence and strategic debate where delegates learn the process of proposing amendments and resolutions while using their debating skills to influence decisions. YEARB 6-2017 Weill Cornell High School Medical Conference Two HST teams’ proposals were accepted to enter the Weill-Cornell High School Medical Conference. Both teams won a place in the top ten and will present in the semi-finals in November. OOK 201 93

YEARB Weill Cornell 6-2017 Healing HandsEssay Competition & QADPTwo of our students won first place at the “Healing Hands Essay Competition” sponsored by Weill Cornell, a fully paid scholarship to Cornell in Ithaca New York in July 2017. Other students were in the top 20.  Some students were in the Qatar Aspiring Doctors Program for future success. OOK 201 94

YEARB 6-2017 Qatar University SEHHA The SEHHA program is an amazing collaboration with Qatar University.  Our HST Student’s exposure to real life experiences in the College of Health Sciences, Rumailah Hospital and the Heart Hospital- Medicine, is a great way to inspire our students to explore a career in health care. YEARB CNAQ- 6-2017 Skills CompetitionDebakey was invited to participate in SkillsCompetition sponsored by College of NorthAtlantic. Fourteen HST students participated in simulations of Dental and First Aid scenarios and showcased their Health Science and Technology skills with confidence winning several awards.
