The students developed a formula to calculate the number of games that were played in the whole season in the Greek Championship. The number of the teams that played against each other was 16). Each team has 15 opponents that have all played both home and away games. So, each team plays 2 ∙ 15 = 30 games. 15 of them are at home and 15 away [15 games at home / 15 games away]. Since there are 16 teams, and each team played 15 games either away or at home, therefore, in total, 16∙15 = 240 matches were played in the season. 2. Then, the students calculated the goal statistics (goals scored and conceded) for each team for the whole season. The data table as well as the graph are displayed on the next page. The students decided to make the graph accordingly to the ranking table and then identified the connection between the shape of the graph and the ranking in the final table. After the calculations, some students compared the results from their spreadsheet with the real data from online databases in order to check their calculations. 9

Coincidence is a relatively effective deviation and according to the Poisson distribution, it equals The outcome of each game is more difficult to predict as the coincidence value increases. This is only a rough estimation; however, it can be argued that football is based on coincidence. Coincidence in real gaming can often be as high as 100 %. Έτσι τον Δεκέμβριο του 1958 ιδρύθηκε και στη χώρα μας αντίστοιχος φορέας με την ονομασία Οργανισμός Προγνωστικών Αγώνων Ποδοσφαίρου (Ο.Π.Α.Π.) με σκοπό την οργάνωση και την λειτουργία του Δελτίου Προγνωστικών Ποδοσφαιρικών Αγώ- νων (ΠΡΟ-ΠΟ), προκειμένου να εξευρεθούν πόροι για την στήριξη του Ελληνικού Α- θλητισμού. Το όνομα του παιχνι- διού ΠΡΟ-ΠΟ προέ- κυψε έπειτα από δια- γωνισμό με έπαθλο ένα χρηματικό βρα- βείο. Συμπτωματικά η συγκεκριμένη ονο- μασία είχε προταθεί από τρεις διαφορετι- κούς συμμετέχοντες στον διαγωνισμό, στους οποίους και μοιράσθηκε εξίσου το χρηματικό βραβεί- ο. Το ΠΡΟ-ΠΟ θε- σπίστηκε με Βασιλικό Διάταγ- μα στις 20 Δεκεμβρί- ου 1958. 43

Την Κυριακή 1η Μαρτίου 1959 έγινε ο πρώτος διαγωνισμός του ΠΡΟ-ΠΟ, που έμελλε να καταξιωθεί στη συνείδηση των Ελλήνων σαν ένα λαϊκό παιγνίδι πρό- βλεψης και τύχης που γέμιζε με ελπίδα τους παίκτες και πρόσφερε πολλά χρή- ματα και νέα ζωή στους τυχερούς νικητές του. 44
