Interview With SUJATA SINGH -Taken by Pitanjal Datta What would be your definition for YOGA? Ans) Yoga word itself means union- ‘union of body and mind, Some says union of soul and spirit.Our YogaInspira- If you ask me what is yoga- yoga is union oftion-Sujata Singh consciousness and unconsciousness, in fact yoga is way of living where we start our jour- ney with simple joints movements, breathing, yoga postures and pranayama and finally leads to meditation. According to my point of view Yoga is a kind of system where one follows physical asana with deep breathing, which create awareness about how to endure strength in your body and control over mind which gives channelize towards meditation. We all are moving towards materialistic goals. While achieving these gaols some where we are ignoring ourselves. Nobody is working on ‘who I am’Practicing . yoga gives sense towards self. “ Yoga needs practice. The more you prac- tice, the more you succeed. I am teaching from kids of 3 years to 90 years old per- son.

Are there any pre requisites in connec- Sujata performingtion to body types that are required to Vrksasana ( treestart YOGA or anyone with any body pose )type can enrol with you for doingYOGA?Ans) As per as my teaching experienceyou don’t need any specific body type foryoga, but all you need is a yoga expertwho can understand your body type.Forinstance if your body is stiff your yogateacher can guide you proper way tomake it flexible and subtle. One can start with simple joint exercises of yoga and move up to higher level of yoga practices by adopting yoga in life as routine. There is a saying that YOGA helps curing diseases and certain ailments? How far do you believe in this? Ans) Of course yoga can cure many diseases and ailments whether it’s physical or psycho- logical. In my eight years journey of teaching yoga I met many kind of patients like diabetic, asth- matic, heart patients, depressed mental pa- tients. I treated them with yoga therapy.

For them practicing medita-tion and asana are easy to do and they can useyogic techniques a therapy anytime

spirationSUJATA SINGH How far can YOGA contribute to body building like toning of muscles, six pack abs, biceps and triceps, pelvic mus- cles?Can YOGA be a substitute to going to GYM? Ans) Yoga builds strength in bones, because you use your own body weight while performing yoga poses. Yoga is weight bearing, it helps in toning and conditioning of core, triceps, biceps, core and pelvic muscles. Yoga can be a substitute for gym if the diet and some spe- cific of set yoga poses just for 30 minutes a day are fol- lowed appropriately. Your inspiration in your profession? Ans) I still remember, during my school days my father used to start his day with yoga and so I started doing yoga as a part of game. Somewhere he is my inspiration for my profession and my life and of course my yoga guru Mr.Ra- jeev Maken. When people who are stiff go to you what do you do to make them flexible? Ans) That’s a good question being yoga teacher’s face this most of the time.As I mentioned above yoga has specific postures for each aspect whether its flexibility, strength, stamina or so on.Being a yoga teacher I tell them if you are stiff that doesn’t mean that u can’t gain flexibility. Take it on a positive way, stiff people usually have more strength as compare to flexible ones. They can do much more balancing and strengthening yoga poses and with regular practice of yoga they gradually increase flexibility also.

Main benefit of regular yoga is to control your hormones , if your hor- mones are in control you can achieve any kind of fitness goal with yoga like weight loss, inch loss, muscle strength, flexibility improve- ment, maintaining body shape Yoga is a never ending journey, it needs infinite number of small steps to move towards each fitness goals.Can YOGA stretches be painful at times? Sujata training one of herWhat are the painful stretches of YOGA? clients.What precautions do you take before mak-ing your clients do such painful stretches?Ans) It’s true that some stretches are painfulfor beginners. While teaching I keep this inmind if someone is new to yoga I teach thembasic joint moments to build up strength andendurance in muscle once they able to dobasic stretches then intermediate level posesand finally I teach them advance postures.What are the different FITNESS goals thatyou train for?Ans) My teaching method is very simple every-one should follow one motto “I LOVE MY-SELF AND I SHALL STAY HEALTHY”

While performing this pose you balances over your arms which tones your biceps and triceps.
