Greetings NABA Family and Friends! On behalf of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Metropolitan Washington, DC PHYLLIS A. CARTER HOST CHAPTER (Metro DC) Chapter it is an honor and a privilege to host the 52nd Annual NABA Convention, also known as the “NABA Family Reunion”. While this decade began with some unique challenges— NABA Metro DC namely the global spread of COVID-19 and the resurgence of the fight for social injustice— we Chapter President also witnessed a strong sense of solidarity of our people as we came together as a community to support one another. As the world adapted to our current reality, our digital solutions have still allowed us to remain connected to each other through this fully virtual edition of the convention. The theme for this year is “Insight”. The word insight is defined as “the capacity to gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing.” NABA as an organization is insight exemplified—a dream conceived by nine visionaries in 1969 during an era marked by civil unrest and social injustices with limited opportunities for people of color. While time has not changed much regarding social injustices in our society, NABA has blossomed into THE premier accounting association for Black professionals over its 50+ year history. As NABA continues on its next 50-year journey, there hasn’t been a better time to sharpen TANYA DAVIS and develop new skills while leveraging change. Insight will be an opportunity for us to share our thoughts and exchange ideas on how to chart our journey forward to reach new heights. 2021 Local Convention We have an exciting program at this year’s convention that will allow us to reflect upon and Co-Chair celebrate our past accomplishments, renew friendships and extend our networks, and jointly explore current and future directions. To put a conference of this magnitude together is not a small task. We would also like to thank the NABA National Headquarters HAWKINS, CPA for the opportunity to host our NABA Family and their partnership in this endeavor. We would like to also thank all the national and local level sponsoring organizations for providing their 2021 Local Convention generous financial support. Lastly, we would like to thank all the convention participants for Co-ChairChapter their contributions which are the foundation of this organization. President Although we will miss the opportunity to host you in person this year, we are looking forward to showing you the ultimate Washington DC experience virtually. We plan to still provide a “Taste of DC” through our mixology and cooking classes featuring Maryland crabs, mambo sauce, and DC inspired cocktails. We also look forward to partying in our virtual concert featuring the local sounds of Go-Go music! We hope that you have a productive and fun-filled time at this year’s convention! Thank you to our volunteers and convention sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible. Your continued support and dedication to NABA enables us to offer leading-edge CPE and provides an enriching commitment to NABA. Regards, Phyllis A. Carter Tanya Davis Samantha N.
