FLOW SENSING FOR IRRIGATION SYSTEMS EMERGENCY WATER SHUT‐OFF SYSTEM AND WATER USE TRACKING 4-6-18 PRESENTED BY STEVE ROGERS, GS BROTHERS
Track irrigation water usage; monitor conservation program progress Controller carries out pre‐programmed actions to diagnose the high or low flow condition and shutdown the problem water source or zone valves Controller alerts personnel to ruptured mainlines, broken sprinklers, stuck open valves, and other flow problems. Limits liability and costs associated with by broken pipes, stuck valves, water loss, and unauthorized water use BENEFITS OF FLOW SENSING PRESENTED BY STEVE ROGERS, GS BROTHERS
FLOW SENSORS FOR IRRIGATION SYSTEMS FLOW SENSORS • The flow sensor sends a digital pulse to the ESP‐ LXMEF irrigation controller, and the controller interprets the information to measure water use, and quickly reacts to problems by automatically shutting off the backflow or a particular irrigation valve. • Golf courses have been using flow sensors and controllers that monitor flow for years, but now this technology has become very affordable for commercial properties, homeowner associations, etc.
FLOW SENSING TERMINOLOGY • ESP‐LX Series Controller with FloWatch flow sensing features • Master valve A master valve installed at the backflow and keeps water off except during irrigation cycle. A master valve will prevent major water loss due to a leaky valve or ruptured mainline. • Flow Sensor A flow sensor constantly monitors for low flow and excess flow conditions caused by broken lines or heads, and works with the master valve to automatically shut down the problem area.
