UPDATES: FAILURE RATES: As we move into the the fourth grading period, the C&I department will begin working with principals to analyze failure rates to date. The purpose for doing this is two-fold: (1) to determine the students who are needing credit recovery, tutoring, etc and (2) provides the C&I department with potential numbers for summer school. We will be continually monitoring this data throughout the second semester. CURRICULUM WRITING (SATURDAY, FEB 19, 2022 FROM 8:00-12:00): We had an amazing representation of teachers attend curriculum writing!!! Thank you to all the teachers that were present to assist in writing our pacing guides. This summer we will be refining the pacing guides in preparation for next year and adding links for activities, anchor charts, etc. Why are pacing guides important? Pacing guides are important to ensure that teachers deliver instruction in a coherent manner. As teachers, it is important for us to stay on track because what is written in the pacing guides is what is tested. It provides a map to ensure that we are aligned in what we are teaching and when we are teaching it. The Fenwick English Model of Curriculum Alignment The curriculum model used by Kingsville ISD is based on Fenwick English’s alignment model that includes three components: written, taught, and assessed curriculum. With the use of well-written curriculum documents, the district has created a coherent system that can be managed and controlled for quality purposes and improvement over time. The documents are aligned to state standards and state assessments, which are implemented by teachers who have been trained to deliver the curriculum through aligned professional development.

She collaborates with her team to ensure students are reading and writing by the time they leave Kindergarten. Students are using pictures and high frequency words to build meaningful sentences. She works with students in whole group, small group, and individually to provide needed supports for success. Congratulations Ms. Cantu!!

STUDENT PROGRESS IS IMPORTANT! LAST MONTH I SHARED INFORMATION ON THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT PROGRESS AND HOW TO USE THE STUDENT TRACKER TO CONFERENCE WITH STUDENTS ABOUT SETTING GOALS TOWARDS APPROACHES, MEETS AND MASTERS. I AM ONCE AGAIN SHARING THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT PROGRESS BECAUSE TEA INFORMED US LAST WEEK THAT THEY WILL BE USING THE 2021 STAAR TO COMPARE TO THE 2022 STAAR TO MEASURE STUDENT PROGRESS IN READING AND MATH TO DETERMINE ACCOUNTABILITY (ALONG WITH OTHER PREVIOUS MEASURES). STUDENT PROGRESS IS KEY, NO STUDENTS SHOULD GO BACKWARDS; PURPOSEFULLY PLAN FOR STUDENT GROWTH. PLEASE BE METHODICAL IN REVIEWING STUDENT DATA FROM 2021 TO STAAR BENCHMARK DATA TO DETERMINE STUDENT PROGRESS. TEACHERS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY ON MARCH 21, 2022 DURING OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY TO FOCUS ON A PLAN TO SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING FOR THE WEEKS LEADING UP TO STAAR TESTING. REMEMBER TO USE THE DDI PROTOCOL TO SUPPORT YOU IN REVIEWING HIGH FREQUENCY TEKS AND CREATING SPIRALS, BELL RINGERS, EXIT TICKETS, ETC TO ADDRESS STUDENT NEEDS.

Kingsville Independent School District Data Driven Instruction (DDI) Protocol Common Assessments/STAAR Benchmark Assessment ● Each grade level/department will work together to review Common Assessment/STAAR Benchmark data (for non-testing grade levels - current student data – universal screeners; reference PK-2 information on the back of this handout) ● Review Data: Over all Grade Level and by TEKS, Overall Teacher and by TEKS, Item Analysis (Student Individual Responses), Test, Student Data (organized lowest to highest score), (strengths? needs?) ● Complete Common Assessment/STAAR Benchmark Item Analysis Template: the purpose of this template is to plan for TEKS needing to be addressed through prerequisite learning and/or spiraling Common Assessment Item Analysis Example- KISD.docx Common Assessment Item Analysis Template KISD.docx ● Complete Common Assessment Student Analysis Template: the purpose of this template is to group students based on need and plan for their group instruction K-2nd Common Assessment Student Analysis Planning Reflection Resource - KISD.docx Grades 3-12 Common Assessment Student Analysis Planning Reflection Resource.docx ● Review TRS YAG and/or Pacing Guide for the 3rd nine weeks (All Content - use TEKS Resource System; exception - Gr. 2-5 Math use Sharon Wells Scope and Sequence): highlight “POWER TEKS/HF TEKS'' for the 3rd nine weeks - review High Frequency TEKS from https://lead4ward.com/resources/ (Data Tools Tab, High Frequency by Student Expectation); On YAG circle TEKS that need to be retaught from previous nine weeks, Underline TEKS that need to be spiraled from previous nine weeks (http://teksresourcesystem.net). Add this information to Pacing Guide as prerequisite knowledge and/or spiraling to be addressed during the 3rd nine week grading period.KISD-Nine Week Planner Activity TEMPLATE (1).docx ● Collectively determine 3rd nine weeks’ scope and sequence with needed changes using the KISD pacing guide. ● Create 3rd nine week’s lesson plans using 3rd nine weeks Pacing Guides or YAG with adjustments and TEKS Resource System. Create lesson plans, including objectives, vocabulary, materials/resources, instructional delivery. Review Lead4Ward: Investigating the STAAR Released Questions to include STAAR questions as a bell ringer, exit ticket, etc.

Kingsville Independent School District Data Driven Instruction (DDI) Protocol Common Assessments/STAAR Benchmark Assessment ● If a TEKS has a low percentage at the grade level/department, unpack the TEKS needed (this may indicate an instructional delivery issue rather than a student knowledge concern); using the TEKS Clarification Document will support in unpacking the TEKS as well as the following video examples: Unpacking TEKS Examples.docx. Unpacking the TEKS will provide for a deeper understanding of the full TEKS needed (what needs to be taught, at the appropriate rigor, including all content/context/vocabulary)...then plan for reteach \"One Key Practices in Action\" ● For PK - Grade 2: Analyze the following: PK: Analyze CIRCLE data, student work, assessments, etc to group students and plan for small group instruction, activities Kinder: Analyze TxKEA data, student work, assessments, etc to group students and plan for small group instruction, activities 1st grade: Analyze TPRI data, student work, assessments to group students and plan for small group instruction, activities and any Wonders skills checks, and unit assessments. Also, include STAR assessment as appropriate to plan for small group instruction. 2nd grade: Analyze TPRI data, student work, assessments, etc to group students and plan for small group instruction, activities and Wonders skills checks, and unit assessments, as well as Sharon Wells assessment. Also, include STAR assessment as appropriate to plan for small group instruction. PK-Grade 2 will use the K-2nd Common Assessment Student Analysis Planning Reflection Resource - KISD.docx to plan for small group instruction. FOR ALL STAAR TESTED GRADE LEVELS AND AS APPROPRIATE, ENSURE STUDENTS UPDATE THEIR STUDENT TRACKER AND GOALS Student Data Tracker 2021.2022.pdf
