UPDATES: FAILURE RATES: As we move into the middle of the third grading period, the C&I department will begin working with principals to analyze failure rates to date. The purpose for doing this is two-fold: (1) to determine the students who are needing credit recovery, tutoring, etc and (2) provides the C&I department with potential numbers for summer school. We will be continually monitoring this data throughout the second semester. SAVE THE DATE/CURRICULUM WRITING: SATURDAY, FEB 19, 2022 FROM 8:00-12:00 For the third grading period, it was requested that we offer this opportunity during the week so that those who were unable to attend on a Saturday could participate, however, our participation was extremely low. Therefore, for the fourth grading period, curriculum writing will return to Saturday. UPDATES: (con’t) TEACHER SPOTLIGHT FEATURE During the month of February, we would like to spotlight Mr. Kamhuka! Preparing students to succeed on state assessments and in college-level math is not for the faint of heart. Mr. Rayton Kamhuka engages his Algebra 1 students in high level rigor during instruction. He incorporates his enthusiasm for teaching…and learning, in each lesson, every day. Mr. Kamhuka develops strong relationships with his students and is genuinely interested in their activities, weekends, emotions and personal endeavors.

STUDENT PROGRESS IS KEY TO CLOSING THE GAPS Below is an example of the District Student Tracker that teachers and students have been using to measure student progress this year. You may have noticed this tracker change from last year; we added an area for a student and teacher to work together to set a goal for district assessments. In conferencing with students, it is important to have the Lead4ward Raw Score Conversion table in front of you to discuss with students how close they are to approaches, meets and masters and then set a goal for the next assessment based on this information. Allowing a student to see that they are only 1 question or 4-5 questions away from approaches, meets or masters, allows the student to take ownership of their goals and the work it will take to get there. Please continue to have discussions with students about their goals so that they take ownership of the work. STUDENT PROGRESS IS KEY, NO STUDENTS SHOULD GO BACKWARDS!!!! PURPOSEFULLY PLAN FOR STUDENT GROWTH!!!
