SSRVM Magazine Bengaluru East February 2022 Editor’s Corner: Deserted corridors, classes, laboratories and playgrounds. A pause on morning prayers, meditation time, wishes and celebrations at school. Untidy and loud classrooms were tidy, silent and empty. A sudden shift in the paradigm of schooling. Covid 19 has reshaped the education sector. From black board to screen share, live charts to PPTs and images, singing and dancing along with the preschoolers to online videos, school laboratories to online simulation tools, school library and real books to online books and recorded books, live annual event to virtual annual celebration and so on… Initially, this transformation was new and challenging to the teachers and the students but later the situation made each of us to adapt to the new age learning. The efforts taken by the frontline workers and with the help of vaccination the situation is getting back to normal now. With the help and support of the management, all our staffs are vaccinated to ensure the safety of our students. All the safety protocols are followed while we are getting ready to open the doors for our learners. While we are excited to welcome our students to their learning environment after a long break, this change of learning from online to their physical school/offline will have a lot of changes and challenges. As parents and teachers, we have to help the learners to adapt to this change as this will have an impact in their routine that they had followed in the last two years. Let us together work collaboratively to help students overcome the challenges, so that they experience a pleasant and a positive learning environment. The team of SSRVM BE is ready to Learn, See, Do, Explore, Question, Laugh, Smile, Share, Connect, Imagine and Grow together with our shining stars. Welcome back!!!! SSRVM Magazine Bengaluru East February 2022 Editor’s Corner: On the first day of the offline mode of school after the pandemic, teachers as well as students were very excited and were ready to meet each other enthusiastically. The school premise as well as the classrooms and corridors were reverberating with the cheerful sounds of our beloved students. The day started with a divine prayer, which helped to spread a positive vibe. Activities were conducted to make learning enjoyable. Children were taken to PE classes, where they enjoyed moving around in the ground after a long break. Life skill sessions, Art and craft classes were a part of the weekly schedule. The school campus came alive with their lively chats and bubbly laughter. When children are taught the joy of learning, it becomes a life-long process that never stops, a process that creates a logical individual. That is the challenge and joy of teaching. At SSRVMBE we believe that learning should happen with joy and we provide children a friendly environment that creates an excitement and eagerness to learn new concepts. SSRVM Magazine Bengaluru East FJaenburuaaryry22002222 East Teacher’s Corner: MOST SUITABLE PEDAGOGY FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS Pedagogy is the art of teaching. Different teachers use different strategies. Some strategies are suitable to certain student backgrounds, learning styles and abilities. Adopting effective method of pedagogy benefits students, teachers and the school community. Few suitable pedagogies for pre- schoolers are: Learning by Listening: It is also known as Auditory learning, wherein children learn through listening, for instance they learn rhymes by listening. They develop their language skills by listening. Listening and speaking skills go hand in hand. When a teacher narrates a story in her class with a voice modulation, expressions and props it takes children to their imaginary world. They develop vocabulary, they learn different traditions and values, it helps children develop new ideas and encourage active participation. Learning by doing: It is also known as Play-way method. This method allows children to learn by playing. It helps children to think logically and enhance their creative skills. For example, playing with a doll house, children will learn about different rooms in a house, making shapes and letters with clay helps them to learn letter formation and improves their fine motor skills. Experiential learning: Experiential learning is a learning where children learn by doing and reflecting on their experiences. Field trip, germination, scavenger hunt, role play solving the puzzles are few examples of the experiential learning that we can adopt in our teaching. It enhances the critical thinking and increases the grasping power of a concept in children. A happy learning makes a happy classroom and a happy classroom is created by implementing creative ideas. SSRVM Magazine Bengaluru East February 2022 Teacher’s Corner: BOOK REVIEW RICH DAD POOR DAD - ROBERT TORU KIYOSAKI The book basically is about what people must learn and practice in order to become financially independent. Two different points of view about attaining financial dependency is, the rich don’t work for money i.e., don’t depend on others to make you rich. Learn how to make money. Work on cutting your expenses moderately. Identify ways on investing wisely and create opportunities to earn passive incomes apart from your salary. Seek to be a business owner and/or an investor, rather than an employee. Master Financial Literacy and Financial intelligence equips you with the what is required to make money that will last for generations, while money without financial intelligence is soon gone. It does not matter how much money you make, but how much money you keep. Differentiate between an asset and liability, and invest in assets. Assets generate income, while liabilities generate expenses; i.e., your GSM mobile phone could be an asset or liability depending on what it is used for. Find ways to excel with your qualifications. Look for other opportunities to accumulate wealth. Some sources of unearned income are Dividends, Interest, Payments, Rent, Royalties etc. Learn to minimize the taxes you pay. You are better off managing your finances through a corporation rather than as an employee, because of the different tax. Your income is taxed, and what is left is, your disposable income. As a corporation, you first make your money, then you take out your expenses. The rich invent money. It takes money for you to make money, but you don’t necessarily have to use yours. For you to be wealthy, the earnings from your assets(investments) should be enough to fund your expenses. Plan and pursue to attain a point, where if you resigned from your job, you could fund your lifestyle using unearned income from your investments. Work to learn, don’t work for money. Don’t grab a job for what you can earn, pick a job to learn about business systems, about managing people and that would prepare you to run your own business, your own investment. Money can be illusion that clouds good judgment. Fear and greed do not allow people make rational decisions. Skills make you rich, not theories. In school we learn that mistakes are bad, and we are punished for making them. Yet, if you look at the way humans are designed to learn, we learn by making mistakes. We learn to walk by falling down. If we never fell down, we would never walk. Business is like a wheel barrow. Nothing happens until you start pushing. Starting a business is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. In mid-air, the entrepreneur begins building a parachute and hopes it opens before hitting the ground. If you own a butcher shop, don’t hire vegetarians. To hire the right people, you have to let the wrong people go. Start small and dream big. The most life destroying word of all is the word tomorrow. The ability to sell is the number one skill in business. If you cannot sell, don’t bother thinking about becoming a business owner. The author concludes by stating that parents should teach these lessons to their children early enough, in order to guarantee their children’s financial future. It is never too late to start building your financial empire. You could start right now, with your next pay check, or by looking around you. SSRVM Magazine February 2022 Bengaluru East Teacher’s Corner: BOOK REVIEW HOW THE ONION GOT ITS LAYERS - SUDHA MURTY ‘How the Onion Got Its Layers’ by Sudha Murthy is a 31-page children’s book that depicts a princess and her kingdom. The story revolves around a young princess who has an obsession for clothes. She was blessed with a flaw, that she will wear a new dress everyday. To know about the flaw consequences and secret behind the onion’s layer read this book. The book is completely magical with a traditional touch and real representations. A story is difficult to narrate when it is just a simple traditional tale. But that is what Sudha Murthy's forte is, she is so effortless and at the same time raises curiosity to know the next turn of events in the story. The book is targeted towards the little audience – age 4 and above. I just loved the design or the illustrations which are so beautiful that even if you are not reading the book, it will still attract you to look at it. The saris, jewelry and hairstyles represent the modern and somehow a relatable tale. As this is a children book the story is very simple so that a kid of any age can understand. I have always been fascinated by the story and writing of Sudha Murthy and of course, she is always adored by the children. Her simple writing is the most amazing part of all her books. Her stories bound us to have that imagination. Children often imagine certain things or incidents or characters that actually help their brains to develop. And reading such evocative writings of hers, help them to be more creative. It’s an amazing story, put up in simple words that kids can read and understand as it is having fine best quality pictures and pages. Grab on a copy for your little one to know why and how the onion has got its layers? Overall, the book is enjoyable and it is sure that the kids will fall in love with the colorful illustrations and the simple writing. Ms. Akshata Facilitator - Primary SSRVM, Bengaluru East 10

SSRVM Magazine Bengaluru East February 2022 Teacher’s Corner: INDIAN FOLK-ART Folk-art as a visual medium does not have a unique definition but generally consists of all forms of visual art delivered in the context of an existent society within a particular geographical and cultural niche. In this manner, folk-art caters to local tastes and needs, is reflective of the way of life and culture in a community, and provides tangible and intangible forms of art with distinctive styles and objects that stand removed from other cultural developments of their time. Intangible folk-art forms include music, dance, and narrative structures, while tangible folk-art forms refer to objects that are crafted by hand or other means within the traditional practices of a community. The purpose of folk-art is to serve as a medium through which a community’s traditions, beliefs, and attitudes can be transmitted and passed from one generation to another. This is often achieved within families and community via practical demonstrations, conversation, and daily practice. Folk-art was developed to address the very real needs, and desires of a community. Once that need is removed, the relevant folk-art may gradually vanish within the annals of history. Ms. Shimul Bhodia Facilitator - Art & Craft SSRVM, Bengaluru East 11
