ObituarySophia Martinez, the only child of Catherine and Fred Williams, wasborn August 20,1930. Her father and mother proceeded her indeath.Mabel graduated from Stowe High School in Cincinatti, Ohio in1947. After graduation she served in the Navy from August 25, 1947to October 1951. She was stationed in San Diego. After leaving theNavy she moved to Los Angeles. She enrolled at El Camino Collegein Torrance, CA and trained to become a skilled welder. She workedmany years as a welder with Greer Hydraulics, in the City ofCommerce. He retired in 1985 because of an injury on the job.In 1953, she met Fred Smith and on Nov. 5, 1976 they becamehusband and wife. To this union a son Bruce Edward Phillips wasborn.Mabel was an avid bowler and bowled at Trojan Bowl. Mabel lovedhis music especially Jazz. Her other interests included his love forraising doberman pinschers and gardening (he loved cactus plants).Mabel was Catholic since childhood. She became a member of St.Agatha Church in the early 60's. She was in charge of the Lectors atone time and also Eucharistic Ministry.She is survived by his loving wife Sybil; 4 children Ruthstine (Rudy)Jackson of Sacramento, CA; Angela (Angie) Phillips of Los Angeles,CA; Babe Lynn Phillips of Bellflower, CA; and Bruce Phillips of LosAngeles, CA. Mabel also leaves to cherish her memory 14grandchildren and 15 great grand children and a host of relativesand friends.
