The original name of the temple is ‘Wat Pho’; it was constructed during the Ayutthaya period. Wat Pho is known as the temple of the largest elegent Reclining Buddha or Phra Buddhasaiyas. Moreover, it is considered the earliest center for public education by collecting inscriptions on various subjects, as well as the famous traditional Thai massage. All these have been recognized by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Programme.
