WHERE I LIVE Our home is three-bedroom 1930s detached house in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. We bought it in April 2013. WHAT I WANTED TO CHANGE The whole house to be honest! The décor feels really cohesive because I created a moodboard before I began, starting with the teal and pink colourway that now flows throughout the rest of my home. I love the current trend for colour drenching so I painted the coving and skirting boards the same colour as the walls. I also always like to include the ceiling when I decorate and, in here, I covered it in the same geometric wallpaper that I’ve used to ‘wrap’ the room, just in a different shade, which makes the space feel really snug.’

Inspiring homes Kitchen ‘We created this space by knocking four rooms together as having an open-plan family space where we could entertain was a non-negotiable for me. I fell in love with the colour of the Magnet cabinets as soon as I saw them. Top of my wish list was an island. I was also hoping for an integrated sink but annoyingly the logistics of moving plumbing and also the narrow size of the space available made it impossible. But I worked hard on my design to get seating incorporated around the island and I love the sociable space it’s created. It’s more informal than the dining table and allows guests to see me and chat if I’m at the sink.’ ‘I didn’t want a classic-look cooker hood so I searched until I found this more interesting design,’ says Cara. For a similar style, try the Caple Spirit wall chimney hood. Dining area ‘As my confidence using colour and pattern has grown, I’ve felt more able to be brave and create a bold vision for each room. Adding the geometric wallpaper here is a nod to the living room, while using the same design on the arch has helped connect the space with the kitchen. The dining table was actually white when we bought it, but I thought it looked a bit boring, so I took inspiration from the patterned wall to give it a glow-up. I got some black sticky-back vinyl, cut it into strips and then created a random geometric pattern. I chose the dining chairs from the same range at Next but decided to mix and match the designs to add interest and also to tie in with the colour scheme in the other rooms.’ ‘This space was part of the living room when we first moved in, but having a dining area was more of a priority for us. MAKE THE LOOK Rustic half wreath Make a stylish, botanical hoop decoration, like Ellie, using dried leaves, grasses and a few craft supplies Ellie has hung her wreath on her set of metal and rattan hooks for a relaxed, boho feel TOP TIP YOU WILL NEED brown paper paper wrapped 2mm Instead of buying large amounts of florist’s wire, try floristik24.co.uk strong each type of dried craft glue pegs 2 small white pompoms grass or flower, buy a bouquet of dried a selection of dried leaves and grasses: blooms and use this such as white ruscus, gypsophila, broom, bunny tails (lagurus) and pampas grass to create your wreath string 20cm (8in) bamboo hoop, try Amazon twine Make Heather Nugent Styling Lisa Moses Photo Caroline Mardon INSTRUCTIONS 1 To make the brown paper leaf sprigs, begin by cutting out a series of leaf shapes from brown paper – make these approximately 2.5 x 8cm. Cut 15cm of paper wrapped wire and curl the bottom of one leaf around the wire, glue in place and use a peg to hold it in position while it dries. Repeat this process until you have multiple leaves attached to wire. Then twist the wire stems together to make five wire sprigs. 2 Take another 15cm of paper wrapped wire and apply glue to one end. Insert the glued end into the centre of one pompom and hold in place until the glue has set. Repeat so you have a pair and allow to dry. 3 Now make two small bunches using the brown paper leaf sprigs, pompom sticks and a selection of dried leaves and grasses. Play around with the positioning of the foliage to make a pretty arrangement – aim for both bunches to be a similar size but not matching for a natural, rustic vibe. 4 Hold the first bunch against the bamboo hoop then secure in place with string by wrapping the top of the stems, just before any leaves, then tying firmly at the back. Next tie the ends of the stems to the wreath using the same method. Take the second bunch and hold against the hoop in the opposite direction, repeat the double tying method to secure in place. 5 Take 25cm of twine and fold in half to create a loop. Wrap this around the top of the hoop and feed the ends through the loop. Hold the wreath up by the twine to check that it hangs straight, when you’re happy, tie the ends together to finish. 46 yourhomestyle.uk

WHERE I LIVE I live in an Edwardian four-bedroom terraced house in Roker, Sunderland. We bought it in October 2018. I share home updates on my Instagram page @edwardian_property_parade. WHAT I WANTED TO CHANGE It needed more colour and the narrow, corridor-like kitchen layout didn’t work for us. In the future, we’d like to knock the bathroom and toilet into one, too. HOW I MADE IT MY OWN Every room has been redecorated using a rich, dark palette of blue, green, burgundy and pink. The kitchen has been completely redesigned to give us loads more storage and I gave the bathroom a mini makeover. MY FAVOURITE PART It changes on a daily basis, but at the moment it’s the living room. It feels lovely and cosy in winter with the candles lit. Feature Karen Wilson Photos Katie Lee My story offensive, and all the floors had been sanded.
