Diocese of BomBay A school’s infrastructure, no matter how sophisticated, is irrelevant without a well-qualified and dedicated staff. The staff consisting of 65 teaching members, 4 non-teaching members 1 Librarian, 1 Lab assistant, 1 Campus Supervisor and 14 support staff, together take care of the various requirements of students, whose head count has increased from 7 to 1496 since its inception. The school believes that while on one hand it is important to cultivate knowledge through academics, on the other hand it is also important to involve students in co-curricular activities to enhance their cognitive skills and to assist their personality development. The school’s internal scholastic activities included, essay competitions, debates and elocutions in English, Hindi and Marathi, Science Quiz competitions and mock UN assemblies, Geography Day, One Act Plays to help improve the students’ understanding of the subjects. Students were also regularly encouraged to take part in competitions conducted by other schools and organizations, giving them a platform to compete with other students on a similar educational level. Competitions organized by Science Olympiad Foundation, NELTAS, Spell Bee, RashtraBhasha and scholarship exams by the State Board; exhibitions, quiz competitions and debates etc. organized by other schools are a few to mention. The importance of non-scholastic activities in the building of a child’s intellect and personality cannot be undermined. To help the students understand how to apply the knowledge they gain in the classroom and to polish their soft skills, the school arranged a wide spectrum of co-curricular activities. The two aspects that influenced these activities are the Houses and the themes. The school chooses a distinct annual theme every year which is further sub divided into related monthly themes. All the activities of the year are influenced by the yearly or the monthly themes or a combination of both. The yearly theme for 2019-20 was – ‘Patriotism – Service to Nation’ so as to make the children grow to be conscientious citizens of tomorrow, who believe in serving their nation. In 2019-20, the school not only conducted activities like the monthly hand-written magazines, art competitions, drama, patriotic song competition, folk dance competition, Mad Ad competition, for the students to explore their creative side but also encouraged them to participate in competitions conducted by Red Cross, YMCA, Kalabharati and the Elementary and intermediate Grade Exams for art. Physical education has been an integral part of education as it teaches the importance of physical and mental well-being and builds competitive and team spirit in the students. The school has been participating in various competitions related to Karate, Taekwondo, yoga, boxing, skating, roll ball, chess, mallakhamb, football and cycling. Students’ commendable performance in various sports has brought home 426 medals (134 Gold, 129 Silver and 163 Bronze) in 2019-20. The school spares no efforts in providing teachers with opportunities to improve their skills. Regular seminars were conducted for the teachers so that they are up-to-date and well- equipped to give their best to the students. This is invariably done on the last working day of every month. In order to avoid the academic loss due to closure of the classrooms due to pandemic situation we have started vertical classrooms with the help of Microsoft. With each passing year, the experience and knowledge gained helps us improve ourselves and rise up to the growing expectations of the education field. Hopefully the years to come will bring more opportunities for us to prove our worth as a competent educational aNNUaL RePoRT : 2019 - 20 Page 71 of 76
