DUNES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Volume 6, Issue 4 ACADEMIC SESSION 2019-2020 24th to 28th November 2019 Sneak Peek Reminder U.a.e National day  Students to come in U.A.E national day is celebrated on December 2nd every year. It proper uniform. marks the UAE's Union Day between the seven emirates. A special  School remains closed assembly on national day was organised in the school. Students from 01.12.2019 till made this day special with their brilliant performances. The students 03.12.2019 on account of UAE national day. also spoke about the developments done in UAE by different rulers. This special assembly truly reflecting the spirit of National Day.  Winter break starts from 15.12.2019. School reopens on 05.01.2020  Students will disperse at 12 noon during the PT 2 assessment period. Commemoration Day The nation will never forget the servicemen who offered their lives and blood on the battlegrounds of justice. The 30th of November, which marks annually as Commemoration Day, is a day to treasure the values of sacrifice, dedication and loyalty to the homeland. At Dunes International School, we remem- bered and paid homage to brave Martyrs of UAE by offering silent prayer.

Math wizard greatly improves a students number sense, which improves the ability to understand relationship between quantities allowing logical thinking. Math wizard was conducted for Grade2 students as a part of academic enhancement . Students answered the given questions in the allotted time limit. This helped to develop the critical thinking skills in children. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 2

Bullying exists in many forms, including physical aggression, name-calling and spreading rumours. Preventing and stopping bullying involves a commitment to creating a safe environment where children can thrive, socially and academically, without being afraid. There are prevention programs and school- based interventions to address bullying behaviours. School has organized a week long activities such as Awareness sessions, helping hands activity, poster making, slogan writing, ant bullying parade, Songs on anti-bullying, street play on ‘No Bullying’ to observe “Anti Bullying Week” in the school. A display of signed hand prints was created as a visual reminder of students' pledge to take a stand against bully- ing. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 3

Grade 2A conducted the assembly based on the theme –UAE Martyrs’ Day. Students explained the reason for marking November 30th as Commemoration Day with the help of PPT. The whole class participation for singing Group song was appreciable. The speech was informative and presented with confidence. The stu- dents dressed up like Emirati Military Officers, helped to create patriotism among the view- ers. Commemoration Day or Martyrs' Day is marked annually on November 30th in the United Arab Emir- ates, recognizing the sacrifices and dedication of Emirati martyrs who have given their life in the UAE and abroad in the field of civil, military and humanitarian service. Fire drills are an important safety practice, and legal requirement, within any commercial property, and educational facilities. However, when these environments contain young children, greater attention and care will need to be given to the process and its efficiency. To make the students aware of the procedures to be followed in case of a fire, a fire evacuation drill was practiced in the school. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 5

A calendar is a very important tool in our everyday lives. It allows us to keep track of the days, weeks, months, and years.. The students were asked to identify the important days and dates in the given calendar. They also answered the ques- tions by looking at the calendar. This activity helped the students to read and analyse a calendar. A few students created a calendar by themselves. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 8

A graphic organizer, also known as a knowledge map, concept map, story map, cognitive organizer, advance organizer, or concept diagram. It is a pedagogical tool that uses visual symbols to express knowledge, con- cepts, thoughts, or ideas, and the relationships be- tween them. Students used a simple graphic organizer to summarize the content –moveable house and other different types of houses. This revision based activity helped them to grasp and learn the content better. Learning about a nation's heritage can give students pride in themselves and the countries that they come from. On account of ‘world heritage day” students made a scrap book with pic- tures and write ups related to the her- itage of India and UAE. They were able to explore the rich cultural heritage of both the countries. Students also spoke about some of the historical places that they visited. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 10

Picture composition is to observe and able to comprehend the picture given. It helps students to describe and observe the details of the picture given, and also gives an opportunity to create various corresponding sentences. Students of Grade 2 were asked to write 5- 6 sentences based on the picture displayed in the past tense form of verb,which they found a bit challenging. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 11

Verbs are a very important part of speech because without them a sentence cannot exist. They serve sev- eral purposes within a sentence. Expanding your vocabulary can do more than improve your reading and writing skills. ... It's pretty obvious that a larger vocabulary can help prevent these frustrating situations, allowing us to choose words with greater precision. Verbs are important because they help children com- municate about different events in their lives by combining words into sentences. By understanding what verbs are and its usage can help children to increase their overall expressive language. Volume 6, Issue 4 Page 12

Game step by step: Students learn faster and better through ‘Learning by playing’ The teacher put footprints on the ground for students to stand up and read the words from the board. Morning assemblies are a very important part in a student’s life. Students learn actions to go along with the song, which gives a sense of happiness and excitement to start the day. Singing boosts confidence and dancing keeps one active and fit. Page 14 Sneak Peek

Library plays a very healthy role throughout a student’s life. Library provides stu- dents a very healthy environment for learning as well as making notes or completing an assignment. Library provides a very calm and disciplined atmosphere which helps students to main- tain a good concentration on their learning. Students of grade 2 were provided with access to a rich book for guided reading- promoting greater amount of reading. Increased reading frequency with more diverse experience among students will help them to attain a greater level of reading achieve- ment. Page 15 Sneak Peek

Year of Tolerance Yesas Sasidharan—2D Alishba Zehra—2D November 27th November 28th As the UAE celebrates the year of Toler- ance , it was announced that this year's UAE Pioneers Award will be dedi- cated to personalities and initiatives in support of tolerance in the UAE.Announcing the initiative ,His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Ra- shid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said: \"Tolerance and the UAE are two sides of the same coin.
