Glimpse of this week Diwali is the festival of lights which is celebrated in various regions across India. The name ‘Deepavali’ literally means an ‘array of lights’. To make the students understand the importance of Diwali, Dunes had a celebration in school on 29th october 2019. Teachers explained the im- portance of Diwali, the festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. Children decorated diya with colors and glitter. They shared Diwali sweets among their classmates and teachers . Dunes team made a rangoli at the school entrance to mark Diwali . 1

Dunes gave a good opportunity to the students to explore and show their knowledge and talent through dunes expo. The exhibition was done on different topics which was quite informative. The ex- hibition developed knowledge, interest for studies, responsibility and team work sprit in the stu- dents. The exhibition was done creatively. Students learnt a lot from this and enjoyed a lot. 2

Students of Grade 1 D presented a skit on honesty to make the students understand how valuable and im- portant honesty is and to implement the same. The students were confident and were able to convey the message properly to other students of the same grade through the skit which talks about a poor but honest boy who returns the gold ring he gets by mis- take in the candy pouch received from the king .He is rewarded with gold for returning the gold ring and being honest. They also sang two songs on ‘honesty’. 3

Students of Grade 1 active- ly engaged in exploring the physical attributes of 3D shapes in which they have to find the number of faces and corners independently. They are also asked to write 2 sentences about the chosen shape.They have written the real life objects which are similar to the basic 3D shapes they have learnt. From this ac- tivity they dealt with the properties of different solid shapes and examples of the same. 6

Vocabulary is a matter of word building as well as word using. Students were engaged in mak- ing words with vowels. This activity gave them the possibility of learning that a word can be written in many ways if a vowel changes. By this they learned the importance of using vowels in a word. 7

This activity allows develop writing and reading skills. Students were matching the pictures with the correct name and circle the (Aa ki matra) words. Students enjoyed this activity by reading the new words and Interaction sharing ideas. This activity to helped them to gain self confidence, enriched their Hindi vocabulary. 8

A concept map is a visual organization and represen- tation of knowledge. It shows concepts and ideas and the relationships among them. A discussion could be held on the fact that although all have same body parts and different from each other. The activity al- lows students to brainstorm in what ways they are different. 9

Students draw a flower picture and they wrote the letter zai because the word flower begins with the letter zai 10

Moral science teaches you the moral values. It teach- es you certain ways and behavior that you have got to follow in order to mingle and get alone in society in or- der to keep up your relationship. Value of the month is Honesty. Honesty means to be truthful for a person in all the aspects of life. It involves to not to tell lie to any- body, never hurt anyone through bad habits, activities or behavior. Students wear enjoying the activity, that tells them about, to be honest with everyone. 11

. In principles of Art , a pattern is an element which is used for decoration as a technique of composition. Grade 1 students learn about applying various patterns in a picture by using sketch and colour pencil. This will help us to develop their drawing and designing skill. 12

Imaan (faith) is a crucial part of a Muslim’s life, and there are six articles of faith. These are derived from the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad. Its im- portance is found in the following Quranic verse:“O you who believe! Keep faith in Allah and His Messenger and the Book which He revealed to His Messenger, and the Book which He revealed before. Whoso disbelieves in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His Messengers and the Last Day, he verily has wandered far astray.”(Quran, 4:136)The students of Grade 1 enthusiastically partici- pated in the activity conducted in the class. They men- tioned the number of the pillars of Islamic belief and names of the pillars as well. 13

Students used the pictures showing significant fea- tures of Abu Dhabi (Rural and Urban) for the activi- ty. They recognized and stuck the pictures as of rural area or urban area of Abu Dhabi. Students took inter- est during the engagement for the activity and thus completed the activity enthusiastically. Students expressed their feelings by writing 4 sentences about how they can keep the city where they live clean. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students. 14

Music and child brain development are closely linked. So the more the child is involved in singing, the better it is for their development. Children singing teaches opposites, from fast and slow to loud and quiet. A child will learn to be able to differentiate be- tween opposite tasks. It helps a child learn to concen- trate on a task. Children singing help to develop a child’s imagination and creativity, Self- expression and Vocal imitation. It helps a child learn how to keep a rhythm and learn how to rhyme words. Singing makes everything more fun for chil- dren and lightens the heart, one of the greatest bene- fits of children singing. It creates a sense of together- ness. It can comfort a child when they feel sad and banishes boredom when they are agitated. Singing causes the mind to focus and the body to re- lax! Competitions may be nerve-wracking, but they’re also exciting and filled with social opportuni- ties. By singing in competitions, kids learn life skills, become self-assured and understand that if you want something worth having, you have to work hard at it. 15

While most of the male and fe- male graduates were from Arab countries - particularly the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain - this 'Year of Tolerance Class' includ- ed many graduates from South Asian, East Asian, European and African countries, best re- flecting the diversity of the school.
