A message from our Executive Director 51 Let me tell you what YOU have made possible in the community over the past year, thanks to your contributions to Keystone Opportunity Center. Our Food Pantry expanded, doubling our food distribution! Your donations helped us form a new partnership between Philabundance, VNA of Greater North Penn, Grace Bible Church, and Keystone Opportunity Center which resulted in Keystone taking over the Fresh For All mobile food pantry offered weekly in Souderton. Because of your support, we are now helping more people than ever before! Our Housing Program Department launched the Sprout Initiative! Your donations helped us form a new partnership between the North Penn School District, Your Way Home, the Montgomery County Foundation, and Keystone Opportunity Center which resulted in launching this pilot program that seeks housing for families with school children who are ineligible for traditional homeless programs because they are living in doubled up situations. Because of your support, we are now helping those who have never been helped before! Our Education Department re-launched the Family Literacy Program! Your donations, along with major contributions from Souderton Mennonite Church and Penn Community Bank, resulted in bringing back this award-winning course which offers interactive learning for parents and children together. It includes ESL for parents, along with developmental activities and Kindergarten readiness for children, teaching parents to be their child’s first educator and enabling them to assist their child in school. Because of your support, we are now offering this parenting program again! Your support has made it all possible. TOGETHER we can do anything! Arlene E. Daily Executive Director 6

E. Richard Aichele III Corporate Partner Award Penn Community Bank To express honor and respect for E Richard Aichele III, the Executive Director of Keystone Opportunity Center from 2010 to 2017, Keystone Opportunity Center has decided to honor a corporate partner which is making a major difference in the commu- nity through Keystone Opportunity Center. This award—unlike all others awards—is for significant overall support of Keystone’s programs of food, housing and education, enabling the organization to do things in the community that it could not otherwise have done. Penn Community Bank was selected for this award because they made an exceptional financial contribution to Keystone Opportunity Center in honor of E. Richard Aichele III in 2018. This donation enabled the agency to do numerous things, including to help fund the relaunch of the Family Literacy Program this year. The Family Literacy Program teaches literacy skills to parents and their children together. It is an interactive program that reaches parents and guardians of young children, educating not only adults on reading and writing English, it helps set their children up for success in literacy, and teaches parenting skills including ways to continue literacy education at home. This enables success for an entire family. Additionally, a portion of the donation in Rich’s name was used to support the rest of the organization and its priorities of helping those in need. In memory of E. Richard Aichele III. From John Lyon Keystone Opportunity Center 44 13

Champion of Housing Univest Financial Univest Financial plays a part of Keystone Opportunity Center in many ways. One specifically is through the housing work done by Keystone. Keystone has approximately two dozen rental units we can offer to low income families. The lack of affordable housing is a key contributor to homeless, and we are able to offer affordable housing with the help of community partners. Univest Financial is one of them. Univest Financial provides two houses to Keystone Opportunity Center, allowing Keystone to offer affordable housing to three households. The more partners like Univest Financial who support Keystone, the more affordable housing units we can provide. In addition to the housing work Univest Financial provides, Univest is an annual sponsor of Keystone, supporting both Keystone’s Spring Banquet and SleepOut events. In addition to Keystone’s annual Spring Banquet fundraiser, the SleepOut event is a wonderful event for youth in our community. Each fall, youth groups can experience a soup kitchen, educational activities and sleep outside in tents, cardboard structures or cars to experience poverty, hunger and homelessness. Champion of Education Souderton Mennonite Church For 3 decades, Souderton Mennonite Church has partnered with Keystone Opportunity Center to provide no-cost education to community members in need. The church provided space for Keystone to offer classes and as the need grew, they expanded their building by adding an education wing with our programs in mind. Currently, Keystone Opportunity Center runs the following classes at Souderton Mennonite Church: Family Literacy Pre-High School Equivalency College and Career English High School Equivalency ESL Beginner Citizenship Preparation ESL Intermediate Tutoring in English Conversation ESL Advanced Tutoring in Math ESL Literacy While this support alone is enough to highlight the contributions to Keystone’s education program, the pastors and congregants of Souderton Mennonite Church went above and beyond in 2017 when Keystone was unable to secure state funding to maintain the Family Literacy program. Having witnessed the value of family literacy, the church and their supportive congregation decided to fund and operate the program until Keystone was able to relaunch the program with private funding. Thanks to the support of Souderton Mennonite Church, Pastor Bentch, Pastor Morales, and the congregants who gave so generously because they believed in Keystone’s Family Literacy Program, the program continued. Last fall, Keystone Opportunity Center successfully re-launched the program with private donations. Year after year, Souderton Mennonite Church has stepped up to support Education for community members in need through Keystone Opportunity Center. 40 17

Champion of Client Assistance 39 MOYER Indoor-Outdoor MOYER Indoor-Outdoor serves Keystone clients throughout the year, but specifically in the winter months. They provide up to 1,000 gallons of oil for our clients in need. Our Community Case Manager helped more than 300 individuals with their household budgeting and financial assistance last year. When household budgets run tight, our Community Case Manager reaches out to organizations like MOYER Indoor-Outdoor to provide their support with oil to heat our clients’ homes. A ministerial-funded position, Keystone’s Community Case Manager works with area congregations to find new clients to help each year. Because of MOYER Indoor-Outdoor, congregational clients and Keystone’s clients are receiving lifesaving oil for heat in the winter months. Champion of Welcoming the Stranger Zion Mennonite Church Zion Mennonite Church has been serving homeless children and families for years by providing the house that has been the “Day Center” for Keystone Opportunity Center’s rotational emergency shelter program. Nearly 200 families were served in this program over the past 20 years. Key to this program is a home where families can keep their clothes, care for their children, and take time to seek employment and permanent housing before being shuttled off to church partners were they slept each night. For many years, Zion Mennonite Church provided this home—the cornerstone of this program. As this building is being retired from use and sold, Keystone Opportunity Center must salute Zion Mennonite Church for having provided such an amazing gift to the community for so many years. 365 days per year, Zion Mennonite Church opened their home to those who needed refuge. 18
