Editorial Board Dear readers, Srishti 2019- 2020 is finally out! At the outset, we extend our sincere wishes for your safety, and the safety of your families and professional communities. We recognize how challenging these times are as we all navigate the burdens imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we got off to a rocky start, we have worked hard to overcome the challenges we faced to produce this year's magazine. We would like to thank our Management for the constant motivation and support. Our gratitude goes out to Mrs. Uma, PG Assistant, Computer Science for her technical support and for managing to release this magazine in the midst of many other responsibilities. We hope that all T'ians will be motivated to strive for excellence in whatever we do and constantly uplift our school's name. Let us all remember that in life there are no limits. There are only plateaus. We must never stay there but work to go beyond them. As Arthur Clarke once said, \"The limits of the possible can only be defined by going beyond them and into the impossible. \" Wishing you all good health and prosperity. Happy reading! Principal’s desk As I recall the onset of the academic year 2019 – 20, I am able to visualize that we applied ourselves to every process at workspace with the mental making to learn, unlearn and relearn. This practice governed every operation of ours, be it school governance, educational support processes, performance measurement or quality services to all stake holders. With this principle of ours we continued to work on oiled wheels until the outbreak of the new entrant COVID 19. The month of March 2020 unfolded a challenge never seen before in times known to our generation. The new challenge paved way for a new normal and all that happened ever since is something that can never happen until we changed every way of functioning known to us. This gave birth to a complete ‘de-learn to learn process’ to all sectors and more so the education sector to say the least. What went unshaken, even during troubled times, is the aegis of our management, the love and support from the parent fraternity and our will to continue braving odds of every kind. These tenets of strength helped us emerge with online services both administrative and academic. At this juncture I recall with a smile, that last year, in order to help children destress a bit, I had requested teachers to permit students to use tabs 4
and mobile phones at school to explore and play games and it sounded beyond practical considering student safety as paramount. Well in the new normal, mobiles and tabs have become inevitable… Classrooms and the teacher instructions such as pay attention, look at the board, submit your book have been replaced by mute, un- mute, turn on or turn off the video, upload, raise the electronic hand and the like… It is but befitting to express my gratitude to the management for guiding us with a safe mode of going online and the much needed technical knowhow. I truly appreciate the parents for readily accepting and making way for the new age learning needs. I salute the teaching fraternity for the courage and dedication displayed when the need arose for embracing a total change and swinging back to the new normal making a paradigm shift in thought and action. With upholding quality deliverables as prime, the core team of the school has evolved a standard operating procedure for online classes to ensure equity and freedom in the teaching learning process. The online assessments have been designed with great care addressing emotional safety at all times for the young learners. The co- curricular needs of learning have been met through yoga, carnatic music and rhapsody classes scheduled within online schedule while art and craft, western dance and music videos are assigned as weekend activities alongside club activities, counseling, value education and library sessions. Blended teaching approach (a blend of ICT online and physical classroom approach) is what we would follow talking about our plans to reopen. I close with an earnest request to parents to continue aiding emotional safety, nutrition and an engaging leisure for your child with the hope that all will be well soon and I ask students to explore various learning avenues beyond the bounds of a textbook and make the best use of time to upskill themselves…. 5

Margazhi Utsav 2020 Margazhi, a tamil month considered as divine month, devotees offer their prayers to the Almighty in the form of pooja, music events, bhajans etc… Margazhi kolam, is one of the predominant things practised in this month to start the day. During this month the earth becomes close to the ozone layer; it is believed that women who draw kolams inhale pure oxygen early in the morning in the month of margazhi. It is also believed that drawing ‘kolam’ outside the doorstep ushers in goodness and prosperity while also making the place look beautiful and welcoming. Drawing these beautiful patterns every day symbolises the celebration of life, giving a positive start to the day. ‘Kolams’ are believed to help channelize positive energies into one’s homes and workplaces, while destroying negative energies at the same time. It has a cleansing and calming effect on the mind and body of the woman, who is then ready to face the rigours of the day ahead. The Heritage club of our school takes immense pleasure in celebrating this tradition as ‘Margazhi Utsav’ every year in the month of January. This academic year it was celebrated on 14th January 2020, Tuesday. The significance of the Tamil month margazhi was showcased through songs, kolam contest and a few kindergarten children dressed up as the Tamil god ‘Krishna’ and goddess ‘Andal.’The Kolam contest was an open event for various categories like grandparents, parents, students and staff of TI. 96 students, 50 parents and 15 teachers actively participated in the contest. Though it was stated as contest, lot of sharing and caring was witnessed among the members. Students involved themselves in making complicated patterns that appeared symmetrical, when viewed from any direction thus symbolizing their creativity and problem solving skills.
