NEW 7th GRADERS INTERVIEWS Mikaela Holt #1 Are you enjoying your first year of middle school? -San Antonio- It has definitely been a step up from elementary and it's going pretty well. #2 How do you think COVID has affected your first year of middle school? COVID has made it not so overwhelming because of the size of the people in the school. #1 Are you enjoying your first year of middle school? Miah Drayton Generally, middle school is not too bad. There’s definitely more work but I’ve learnt how to -Barbados- manage my time properly which helps a lot. To me, having different assignments coming in from different teachers is a bit complicated, though. To make it better, they all come in as fast as jet planes. But so far, I think I have adjusted to this kind of school life. #2 How do you think COVID has affected your first year of middle school? I’m sure it’s very different to what most grade 7’s would do on their first year. Every morning instead of flying through the gates into school, we’ve got to check our temperatures as well as hand sanitize. We must remember to keep on our masks during classes. Believe it or not, it's quite a challenge even for us. We can’t interact with each other like we would’ve normally done our first year or any other. Overall, this year is probably going to be my most memorable one. #1 Are you enjoying your first year of middle school? I am sort of liking it. I am in between liking it and disliking it. #2 How do you think COVID has affected your first year of middle school? I feel trapped kind of: I cannot do as much as I used to without a mask or staying six feet away from everyone else. Mandi Robertson -Abbotsford- #1 Are you enjoying your first year of middle school? Yes, it's been great!! #2 How do you think COVID has affected your first year of middle school? It has made it harder to just talk to a teacher at your campus for help. Probably going to be my most memorable one. Carmen Lewis -San Francisco-

2020 GRADUATES INTERVIEWS Sam Plater What advice would you have for the younger students? Beverly Sills once said, \"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going,\" so be creative and strive to do the best you can! What was your favorite thing about school? Meeting new students and interacting with students through the Campus Interaction Days and the Washington Grad Trip. What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? I wish I had learnt to become more comfortable when presenting and speaking publicly. How has COVID-19 affected your transition to work life? I had an idea as to where I thought/presumed I would be working and when COVID- 19 came along, that certain business took a hit and made me search for opportunities elsewhere. What advice would you have for the younger students? My advice to anyone still in school is to make the most of it and I cannot stress this enough! Please take it from those of us who left in a flap, so excited to Zoom from home, we thought it was freedom, but it was truly boredom. You're allowed to make mistakes, just don't make the same one twice! My advice to those in grade 12, push strong the whole year and don't get to May and give up, don't quit before you finish! What was your favorite thing about school? My favorite thing about school was the ability to be so lazy and do nothing one day a week . At work you can’t just sit and chat when you don’t want to do your assigned tasks. At school you can, but keep it balanced! What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? Essentially like basic business class like real life business class where you could do like Kaitlyn Carpani role plays 24/7 . How has COVID-19 affected your transition to work life? COVID-19 affected me by bringing in uncertainty. Jobs became very hard to secure as businesses struggled to maintain their current employees, let alone hire more. This led me to realize the importance in being thankful for any job you receive, even if it isn't what you wanted. It really showed how important it is to prove yourself worthy to be hired. Make sure you are worth the businesses money!

2020 GRADUATES INTERVIEWS Jacob Lashley What advice would you have for the younger students? Advice I would have for the students is to Learn to Learn as best you can. This is because there will be a lot to learn as you enter the working world, and you will find a developed learning attitude very beneficial. What was your favorite thing about school? I definitely miss playing sports at lunchtimes and PE. : ) What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? I wish I had known how important the 'Learning to Learn' concept is. As I mentioned before.. it is one of the most valuable things that can be learnt from school life. How has COVID-19 affected your transition to work life? Transitioning into work during this period has provided both challenges and opportunities. It was of course a time when businesses were struggling... but it was also a time of change where individuals were looking to start or take on new ventures etc. What advice would you have for the younger students? Find the right balance between work and play.... Learn how to go over and beyond what is expected of you academically, but still have a good time... the fun memories are what stay with you the longest. What was your favorite thing about school? Chilling out with my classmates... seriously, laughter really is the best medicine. What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? How to \"properly\" use Microsoft Excel - it is very commonly used in the business world, and has an extremely vast range of data analysis capabilities that students seldom know of Taryn Morren until they enter the workforce. How has COVID-19 affected your transition to work life? Honestly, it didn't really affect my transition to work life.

2020 GRADUATES INTERVIEWS Connor Lyons What advice would you have for the younger students? I would say to view school as a golden opportunity to grow and set yourself up for success later in life. It’s just 12 short years of your life and you only have one chance so you might as well do it right because I promise you won’t regret it. What was your favorite thing about school? I really enjoyed being with my fellow classmates and doing all the crazy things that we’ll never forget! There never was a dull moment and we created great relationships with each other! What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? I wish we had learned proper business communication skills and simply how to interact with customers in a professional way. Communication is what makes a business so it’s absolutely vital you can do it effectively. How has COVID-19 affected your transition to work life? At the end of the year, it certainly was disappointing that we weren’t able to be together for the last few months. But thankfully where we are, there weren’t too many restrictions, so I was able to begin work as normal as possible. What advice would you have for the younger students? Katie Page The only advice I could give would be to make the most out of school, which is what everyone says, but honestly you make some of the best memories there. That doesn't exactly mean never focus on your academic work, but take the time to have fun, and don't take it too seriously. What was your favorite thing about school? My favorite thing about school was the good times shared with classmates, and all the events we were fortunate enough to be a part of. What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? I wish I had focused more on learning good communication skills, both written and verbal. Also sort of regretting not taking that accounting class I figured I'd never use. How has COVID-19 affected your transition to work life? Covid-19 hasn't affected my transition as much as I thought it would. Besides not being able to see the culture of the business right away and the challenge of communication, I'm surprised at how well it has gone.

2020 GRADUATES INTERVIEWS Alexandra What advice would you have for the younger students? Garlick My advice to the younger classman is do your best. Your 100% is different than everyone else’s. Make sure that in whatever you do, give YOUR 100% and do not compare yourself to others. What was your favorite thing about school? My favorite thing about school was being with my friends, no doubt about it. Covid- 19 made me realize how much it meant to have a class behind you to support you through everything. What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? There are a few things, for instance taking on the phone, its not the dream. The other things are mostly things like processing orders and learning systems like NetSuite. How has COVID affected your transition to work life? Covid-19 hasn’t really affected my transition into the work life very much. The one thing that was strange was getting used to being at home all day then transitioning over to a busy office. It made the days more enjoyable definitely. What advice would you have for the younger students? Travis Truan One thing that I will highly advise that you learn how to type properly, so that does not become a hurdle in your bright future. What was your favorite thing about school? My favorite part was that it allowed the for the students to socialize and collaborate nationwide. What is one thing you wished you had learnt at school that would be useful to you in your current job? One thing I wished that I learned is how to use and setup an excel spread sheet. How has COVID affected your transition to work life? The main way that covid-19 affected my transition into the workplace was that it was not really an ending to my schooling career, so it made it feel more like it was a summer job that did not end when the next school year started.
