artistcompetitionWhere my artists at? Skyway Theatre is having an artist competition.. whether it’s anillustration, digital, painting, etc we want to see it! We selected Louis The Child as the focus of this competition, so you have to use them as the subject. We will be selecting two winners, each of which will receive two tickets to their show on November 25, 2017. PHOTOGRAPHERLOCAL HIGHLIGHT / S P E N C E R T U T T R U P Q: How old were you when you discovered your love for photography? A: The adventure started early high school ironically with Call of Duty Modern Warefare 2 craze. Back during that time, we would record our gameplay, export to the computer and edit the clips to upload them to youtube to make these “sick” clips. This eventually moved into wanting to make our own videos where we could “edit” them so I guess video started then. The next summer, I still wanted to make videos so I spent all my money on an entry level DSLR and that is where it all started. Q: Do you have a favorite type of photography? A: Concert photography is definitely my favorite, but abandoned places are also a close first. Q: Have you traveled much through out your career? A: I haven’t traveled as much yet as I have been going to Mankato the past year, and just haven’t really had the funds to. After college in a semester I plan on a world tour hiking/photography trip. Q: What kind of DSLR do you shoot with? A: Right now I shoot with a Canon Mark IV DSLR. This camera is perfect for what I do as the HD video is incredible, and stills are stunning. Q: Do you have a favorite lens? A: Hands down the 16-35mm 2.8 II from canon. This is my go-to lens for almost any concert situation as it gives a unique look a 50mm would not give. Q: What have been some of the biggest challenges you have faced in your career? A: Being dead broke and wanting to be a professional photographer is really interesting combination since photography isn’t a cheap hobby at all. People look at the gear I have and assume I just casually bought it when in reality I made tons of sacrifices just so I could get a new lens because priorities. Also for the first few years, concert photography/videography doesn’t pay much as you have to build a name / good content for yourself. Buying all this expensive gear is basically my way to keep myself in the scene as I have the investment and gear to make great things, it’s all practice from now. Q: How do you get inspired? A: My inspiration strains from a few different sources. I guess my major inspiration into photography/videography from all the bad luck I’ve had at college essentially getting degrees right now I am not particularly interested in, and just kind of what the norm turns into after someone “graduates”. Eventually I want photography to turn into a full-time thing and don’t want to be stuck in a 9-5 sitting in an office. Seeing the possibilities of a photographer inspires me every time I shoot to learn as much as I can. The other big side of inspiration is the music. I’ve been a fan of I guess you could call electrionc music since I heard traffic by Tiesto and fell in love. I was also huge into the UKF scene when it first started while I was in highschool. Q: Do you have any advice for young, aspiring photographers? A: Connections are key and you need to take risks to get anywhere.
