Term 2 Calendar and Semestral Assessment One (SA1) ScheduleParents can also download the softcopy of these documents from the school website athttp://zhenghuapri.moe.edu.sg/zhenghua-family/information-for-parents/school-calendar.The above were distributed to your child on the last week of Term 1. We thank you for your continual supportto ensure that your child checks the calendar daily for the different activities and programmes in the term. Itis also important that your child - attends school daily and arrives on time - attends all the different programmes that he/she is involved in e.g. Extra CCA Sessions, Enrichment, Supplementary or Remedial classes, LJs etc.It is also important to engage your child to share the many experiences with you so that you are aware ofhis/her school life.Extra Remedial Sessions in Week 9 & 10: As part of our Assessment for Learning, our Teachers will focuson areas that will identify after the SA1, that may require re-teaching. In anticipation of the PERI upgrading(Indoor Sports Hall) that may take place, during the June break, the extra remedial sessions will be in week9 and 10. We seek your understanding to ensure that if your child is selected he/she is present for the extrasessions.3. Enhanced MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS)From 1 April 2018, the eligibility income criteria for MOE FAS will be revised as follows:Income Criteria Current Revised from 1 April 2018  GHI of $2,750 and below; or  Gross monthly household income (GHI) of $2,500 and below; and  PCI of $690 and below  Gross monthly household per capita income (PCI) of $625 and belowFor family who were not successful in their 2018 MOE FAS applications based on the current criteria, youwill not be requested to re-submit a new application as your previous unsuccessful applications will bereviewed for re-consideration using the revised income criteria.For family who have not applied previously and wish to do so, please approach our General Office for thelatest copy of the application form.1|P a g e

Value Education Programme (R3ICH)In Term 2, the school will be focusing on the values of Responsibility, Integrity and Resilience.Our Value in Our students will School RulesR3ICH Be accountable for their  I will be present and punctual for school and all thoughts, words and actions school organised activities. I will not go on extended holidays during curriculum time. Overcome challenges and be adaptable  I will complete assignments on time and with pride.  I will be neat and maintain a clean shaven face. Moustache, beard and long sideburns are not permitted.  I will participate actively in a CCA.  I will exercise self-leadership at all times.  I will obey all school policies.  I am not allowed to have in my possession any weapon. I am also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item which is used or intended to be used to cause harm to others. Value honesty and do what is  I will seek permission before leaving the school right during school hours.  I will be honest at all times.  I will abide by my school’s “Mobile Phone Policy” if I choose to bring a phone to school.  I will be guided by the principle of honesty in all examinations.Parents are strongly encouraged to talk about these values at home as well to complement the lessonstaught in school. We hope that through this partnership, our children can apply the values in the school aswell as at home.5. Students’ Safety and Security – Zero Tolerance to BullyingEvery child has the right to feel safe and secure in school. Bullying is hurtful behaviour that undermines thisright and hinders effective learning and a healthy development. It may manifest in many different ways, butthere are five main types: - Physical bullying which includes hitting, kicking, tripping or the destruction of a person’s property. - Verbal bullying which includes insults, teasing, name calling, sexual harassment or racist language. - Covert bullying which is usually attempted behind the victim’s back. - Cyberbullying, which can happen anywhere and at any time owing to the influx of technology both at school and at home. - Alienation, which occurs when bullies encourage the victim’s schoolmates, class mates and friends to isolate the victim during any social break time or organised game.The school takes a zero tolerance to bullying. All students who bully will be dealt with in accordance tothe Discipline Policy (refer to Page 10 to 13 of Parent Handbook). Students are to report any suchincidents to their teachers. We urge all parents to monitor your children closely and inform the school ifthere are any signs of bullying.2|P a g e

Strategic Thrust 2: Achieving Academic Excellence6. Semestral Assessment One (SA1)The schedule was distributed to all P3 to P6 students at the end of Term 1. Kindly take note of theexamination dates in the schedule and work with your child to ensure that he/she is well-prepared. Thefollowing are reminders that we will share with our students nearer the examination week. a) There will be no make-up examinations for students who are absent on any of the SA1 examination days. b) The school will take strict action against any student caught cheating during the examinations. Integrity is a value that must be practised, respected and inculcated at all times. c) All students must refer and adhere to the Mobile Phone Policy requirements during examination period. With your support and guidance we do not expect our children to be respectful of all school rules. (Check Student Handbook and Parent Handbook)7. After School Academic SupportThe following after school support will be given in Term 2. (Please refer to the Term 2 calendar). We seekyour understanding and cooperation to arrange your home programme so that we can help to address someof the areas of concerns for our students. Parent Teacher Conference on 21 May (There will be no school for all on this day)The school has set aside Monday, 21 May 2018 for the Form Teacher to meet up with you to share on theprogress made in semester one. - P1 and P2 : Parents will be receiving your child’s Holistic Assessment Portfolio. - P3 to P6 : Parents will be receiving your child’s progress report card and SA1 scripts.A notification letter with the necessary details and the instructions for the on-line booking of slots will begiven to you through your child in due course. Do look out for this letter and note that that a window periodfrom 1 April to 30 April 2018 has been allocated for all parents to complete their online booking. If yourpreferred slot is already booked, you will need to select another slot. We encourage all parents to take thisopportunity to talk to and engage our Teachers.Strategic Thrust 5: Enabling Staff, Building Capacity, Cherishing Individuals9. Staff Value-In-Action (VIA) ProgrammeThe Staff VIA programmes are learning experiences that our staff engage in to role model the way for ourstudents to contribute as socially responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the community,through the learning and application of values, knowledge and skills.4|P a g e

The focuses for the Staff VIA programmes this year are: - To raise awareness on the Special Needs group in our society; - To reflect on the experience and transfer the learning to our students; and - To be able to better support our Special Needs students.With the above objectives and focuses in mind, our Staff indifferent groups visited the following institutions on theafternoon of Friday, 9 March; - Society for Physically Disabled - Rainbow Centre - Bishan Home - Movement for the Intellectual Disabled of Singapore (MINDS)It was a short but rewarding time, where we immersed ourselves in different activities like making learningresources, packing work, conducting lessons to serving refreshments and just sitting and chatting with theresidents of the different Homes. We will continue in this year to support the Homes in different ways andmay request for your support in some of our follow up programmes. We look forward to your support.10.
