Skills – Was there any skills used/developed during the session? How to frame questions appropriately to engage an interviewee. How to set up recording equipment required to conduct an interview. Communication skills Thinking Skills Negotiation Skills Improved Relationships Values – Was there any changes in attitude from the session? As the session progressed, a hostility from the local community developed and we had to end the session early. This was as a result of alcohol (and potentially drugs) intake from the locals. There was also an issue from the local community towards one of the film makers and it was decided to remove everyone from the area to ensure safety. Barriers within the session – Any issues that influenced participation? Like the previous session in the Bogside, there were a significant number of people drinking and potentially on drugs. Trying to speak with them to conduct interviews proved very difficult as there was one adult who was dictating who could and could not speak. The atmosphere was turning hostile, so it was decided to end the session early without conducting the interviews. Future Action – How will we address or build on the above reflections? It was not safe to bring young people into this environment and we decided that there would only be one future session (which the group leaders would attend) to take photos and videos on bonfire night.
