I have also got many parts like you. Keyboard, Monitor, CPU, Printer, Speaker, Mouse and many more. A computer has different parts that perform different functions. KEYBOARD Batuk Lal : Hey, you are a musical key- board! Can I play you ? Keyboard : Hee hee..! I am keyboard but not musical. I am computer keyboard. You can type numbers, symbol and alphabet through me. Batuk Lal : It means, you have different types of keys. Keyboard : Of course! I have got alphabet, function, number and other special keys. Keyboard is used to enter information in the CPU of computer. So, it is also called input device. It has small buttons called keys. These keys have letters of the alphabet, numbers and symbols written on them. You can type any letter number or symbol. The keyboard is connected to the CPU by wire. MOUSE Batuk Lal : Wow..! You are looking like a mouse. I am getting afraid. Mouse : Hee..hee ! Yes, I am mouse. But not a real mouse, I am a part of a computer. I am called the computer mouse. I help you to point things and draw pictures on the monitor. The Mouse is an input device of the computer. It is also called pointing device. It is used to point and click the information. It has two or three small buttons. It has a long wire attached to the CPU. Commonly mouse moves on the pad called mouse pad. MONITOR Batuk Lal : Hey, who are you? Are you a TV? Monitor : Heehee...! I am a monitor. I display all the information to you on computer. You can watch cartoon and movies on me. I am con- nected with the CPU of computer. The screen of the computer is called monitor. It looks like a TV screen. It is an output device. It displays the typed information. You can see cartoons, pictures and letters on monitor. So, it is also called VDU (Visual Display Unit). The monitor is connected to the CPU (Central Processing Unit) with wire. CPU Batuk Lal : Hey! Who are you? Are you a box? CPU : Yes.. Yes.. hee..hee.. I am a box. Batuk Lal : Why are you laughing ? CPU : I am looking like a box, but I am a CPU box of computer. Actually, I am the brain of the computer. I control all other parts of the computer. CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. It is kept inside the CPU box. It is the brain of the computer. Our brain helps us to think and remember things. Similarly, a computer calculates, thinks and remembers things with its CPU. So, it is also called the processing device. PRINTER Batuk Lal : Hey ! My dear computer, I want to print my letter. Can you help me? Computer : Yes, of course. You can use this device called printer. Printer is an output device of the computer. It is connected to the CPU. It helps to print words, numbers or pictures on paper. Anything that is printed on paper is called a printout. MICRO-PHONE AND SPEAKER Batuk Lal : Hello Mr. Computer, I have to record my voice and listen to it. How is it possible? Computer : It's possible. You can use microphone for recording voice and use speaker to listen to recorded voice. Microphone is an input device of the computer. It is used to record voice. It helps to supply electricity immediately after load shedding and protects commuter from being damaged. UPS stands for uninterruptible power supply. Can I play you? Keyboard : Heee! You can enter the information into the computer by typing through me. Keyboard is the basic input device of the computer. It is used for typing numbers from 0 to 9, alphabet from A to Z, punctuation and other special symbol like *, %, ~, etc.). Cursor Controls Keys | Batuk Lal : Hello Mr. Computer. How to move cursor in left, right, up and down direction? Computer : Use the keys pad from my keyboard as arrows show the direction. Cursor is a small blinking mark on the screen of the computer. It shows the position of the next letters or numbers to be entered. Cursor control keys are used to move the cursors to different four directions. Backspace Key Batuk Lal : How to erase character one by one from the left side of cursor? Let's see, In this example, you COMM|PUTER need backspace key to correct the incorrect spelling ‘COMMPUTER’ to ‘COMPUTER’. Step-1 : Position the cursor after the sec- ond ‘M’ . Step-2 : Press the Backspace key to erase . Delete Key Batuk Lal : Hi Mr. Computer, let me ask one question. How can I erase one character from the right side of the cursor ? Computer : Oh..oh ! Look at my keyboard, you get 'Delete' key. Now, just pressing this key, you can erase. Batuk Lal : Thank you very much, Mr. Computer. Let's see in this example, here, B is KEY|BBOARD repeated in the spelling of KEYBOARD. You have to correct the spelling using 'Delete' key . Step-1 : Position the cursor after the letter ‘Y’ . Step-2 : Press once 'Del' key to erase ‘B’. Caps Lock Batuk Lal : If I have to type all alphabets in capital letters or small let- ters, how is it possible, Mr. Computer? Computer : It is possible, Master Batuk. You use Caps Lock key. Turn ‘On’ to type in capital letters and turn ‘Off’ to type small letters. MONITOR For example, if you type the word ‘monitor’, monitor it will appear as ‘MONITOR’ on the monitor. If the Caps Lock is ‘on’ For example, if you type the word ‘monitor’, it will appear on the monitor. If the Caps Lock is ‘off’. Num Lock Key Batuk Lal : Hello, Mr. Comput- er! Computer : You should turn ‘On’ the 12356 Num Lock key, then you 8 10 11 12 can use the numeric keypad of right hand side of keyboard. Shift Key Batuk Lal : Hey Mr. computer ! What is the role of this key ? Computer : Yes, Master Batuk, It is a keyboard modifier key that allows a you to type a single capital letter. Shift Key is used to capitalize letters, for example, pressing and holding the Shift key while pressing the letter 'a' , key would generate a capital 'A' letter.
