Physical Education and Health VOLLEYBALL History of Volleyball: Volleyball history began in a town called Holyoke, Massachuets in 1895. The sport was developed at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) by William G. Morgan a physical director. It is originally called \"Mintonette\" before because of its similarity in the sports Badminton. But in a year 1896 the name Mintonette change into \"Volleyball\" when someone commented \"the players seemed to be volleying the ball back and forth over the net\". And volleying the ball would be a more descriptive name for the sport. 1

Setter is having the most challenging position because they need to communicate in every other position. They need to set the ball perfectly to the attacking players. Spiker The Outside Hitter plays an essential role in your team. Ideally, they will play all around they are the one of your top attackers and act safety net for most broken plays. 8

They can play front or back row attack and also carries responsibilities when it comes to blocking Middle Blocker It is the tallest player on the volleyball team, their main role for the team is being the first line of defense against the opposing team. They need to stop the ball from coming across the net off your court. 9

Or when it is touched but unable to be kept in play by the receiving team. Joust - When two opposing players contact the ball simultaneously above the net causing the ball to momentarily come to rest Rotation - The clockwise movement of players around the court and through the serving position. 11

Usually a slow arcing pass or roll shot rather than a spike. Cross Court Attack - An attack directed diagonally from the point of attack. Usually place in the place of zone 2. 12

Physical Education and Health VOLLEYBALL Rules and Regulations : Net Touch - The players shouldn't touch the net in any parts of the body while playing. Foot Fault - Is when the server steps over the service line without threwing the ball. Inside/Outside - When the ball drop inside or in center of the line it is considered as good/inside. And when its out side of the line it is outside. Service Error - It is when the server did not hit or fails to go to the ball over the net. Double Touch - Is when one player makes contact with the ball twice in a row or if the ball touches two parts of the body. Whether if it is intentional or unintentional 13
