Blessings from Our Deputy Commissioner The initiative ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ was announced by Hon'ble Prime Minister on 31st October, 2015 on the apt occasion of the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Through this innovative measure, knowledge about our rich cultural heritage, traditions and practices of different states & Union Territories will lead to an enhanced understanding and bonding between the people of various states, thereby strengthening the unity and integrity of India. The key focus is on celebrating, promoting, showcasing, establishing and creating learning between diverse states by inculcating best practices and experiences. The cultural diversity of our nation is a source of joy that ought to be celebrated through mutual interaction & reciprocity between people of different States and UTs, so that a common spirit of understanding resonates throughout the country. All the States/UTs in India have been paired for an entire year. The paired States given to Dehradun Region is Karnataka. The activity calendar scheduled has paved the way for a year-long process of mutual engagement. I sincerely hope that this interaction between students-teachers of the paired state of Karnataka will go a long way to generate the vibrancy of understanding & appreciation and forge mutual bonding, thus securing an enriched value system of unity in the nation. MESSAGE FROM ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER India is a unique nation, whose fabric has been woven by diverse linguistic, cultural and religious threads, held together into a composite national identity by a rich history of cultural evolution. The spirit of mutual understanding amidst a shared history has enabled unity in diversity, which stands out as a tall flame of nationhood that needs to be nourished and cherished by the coming generations. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) is an activity that has been undertaken in a regular and sustained manner, earnestly and with complete sincerity in all the Kendriya Vidyalaya across the country. The aim is to spread its message of unity in diversity, national integration and appreciation of one another’s culture and traditions by organizing activities in a regular and sustained manner like quiz, seminars on paired states, folk dance, folk music, exposure to language by learning commonly used words/phrases and sentences etc of the paired state. This year the partnering state given to Dehradun Region is Karnataka. This has enabled us to know, appreciate and also share with our counterparts about our state and culture. I congratulate the zealous efforts of the students and teachers for this mutual learning, appreciation and sharing with the partnering state Karnataka and also recording their learning by publishing this E – Magazine. -अलका गुप्ता -ಅಲಯಾ ಗುಪ್ಯಾ 6
From the Principal’s Desk “A nation’s culture resides in the heart and soul of its people.” -Mahatma Gandhiji Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) is a major flagship programme of the Government of India to promote cultural integration of the country. It is a part of the vision to build a \"New India by 2022\", the seventy fifth year of India’s independence from the British colonial regime. The initiative 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' was announced by Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modiji on 31st October, 2015 to mark the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The idea of a cultural connect between people of different regions is vital for the spirit of nation building. Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat is an activity undertaken by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, every year to promote National Integration and appreciation of Indian art and culture. This helps in sensitising students about our rich cultural heritage and also to develop in them the feeling of admiration and respect for the cultures of different state. The paired state this year given to us belonging to Uttarakhand state is Karnataka. All Kendriya Vidyalayas of Dehradun Region as per the month wise calendar of activities have conducted all the scheduled activities. A repository of their work, understanding and appreciation about the culture of the paired state Karnataka in the form of E -magazine is shared with the readers. -वी के त्यागी -ವಿ ಕ ತ್ಯಾಗಿ 7
