In 2022, the Foundation experienced a remarkable 30% increase in total donations compared to the previous year, amounting to an impressive 363 million pesos. Despite the challenges posed by rising inflation rates and the lingering effects of a global pandemic, this significant contribution has had a profound impact on the lives of countless Filipinos in our community and beyond. Within the following pages, we take great pride in showcasing the remarkable achievements of the Resource Generating Group and the Foundation. These dedicated teams strategically allocated the finances across the four core programs, ensuring that the funds were utilized effectively to maximize their positive influence. ANNUAL REPORT 2022 Many individuals seeking medical services from public hospitals face significant challenges, including congested facilities, inadequate resources, and understaffed departments. This unfortunate situation creates a divide, separating those who can afford and access quality medical care from those who cannot. Recognizing this disparity, the Foundation’s Social Service Program strives to bridge this gap and provide equitable access to world-class medical services at St. Luke’s Medical Center for less privileged Filipinos, often at little to no cost. This program stands as a true testament to the Foundation’s unwavering dedication to the public good and its commitment to addressing the pressing healthcare needs of the underserved. Over the years, the Foundation’s support of this pillar has yielded remarkable results. In 2022 alone, the Foundation allocated a total of 256 million pesos to the Social Service Programs, positively impacting the lives of 44,113 beneficiaries. The majority of these funds were utilized to cover the cost of medications and diagnostic procedures for patients. Additionally, a substantial portion of the allocation was dedicated to supporting individuals battling cancer and cataracts. The remaining funds were directed towards aiding patients with skin and infectious conditions, as well as those requiring cardiology care. ANNUAL REPORT 2022 Outreach programs have the power to bring profound and lasting changes to the often overlooked corners where suffering persists unnoticed. The spirit of selflessness and compassion that underpins these endeavours offers hope and healing to individuals who are frequently forgotten in our society. These programs not only offer medical care but also restore a sense of dignity and respect to those who have been neglected. Within this program, our dedicated healthcare staff and personnel are mobilized to underserved communities to deliver exceptional medical attention. In 2022, a total of 1,166,747 pesos were allocated to outreach programs, benefiting a total of 3,946 patients. These numbers reflect the tangible impact of our efforts in reaching out to those in need and providing them with vital healthcare services. As part of our response to the Covid-19 pandemic, our outreach programs included vaccination drives conducted in early 2022. In celebration of our 10th year anniversary, we organized a special medical mission at the BJMP Taguig City Jail, extending our care and support to over 160 individuals who are currently deprived of their liberty. Additionally, we extended support to NGOs and government hospitals or organizations by donating facemasks and protective equipment. Alongside these Covid-19 related initiatives, our non-Covid outreach programs encompassed various donation drives focused on providing non-monetary goods such as hospital equipment and health and hygiene kits to marginalized communities. Furthermore, our medical missions were conducted during the SLMC Anniversary Surgical mission and in coordination with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. ANNUAL REPORT 2022 Knowledge holds immense power as it unlocks opportunities, broadens horizons, and transforms lives. However, aspiring medical professionals often encounter numerous obstacles on their path to achieving their dreams. The Foundation recognizes these challenges and is dedicated to alleviating the financial burden that they face. Through scholarships and continuing education programs, the Foundation aims to nurture the next generation of healthcare leaders, fostering a skilled and compassionate workforce that will make a positive impact on society as a whole. The Foundation extends its support through the provision of Medical Education Scholarships and Continuing Medical Education Programs offered to students at St. Luke’s College of Medicine-William H. Quasha Memorial and professionals at St. Luke’s Medical Center. In 2022, a total of 32,450,937 pesos was dedicated to the education of these aspiring healthcare professionals students and to the continuing medical education programs. Notably, 7 new scholars were awarded scholarships in 2022, broadening the reach of the Foundation’s impact and providing additional opportunities for deserving individuals. These scholarships cover 100% of the students’ tuition fees, books, laboratory expenses, and miscellaneous fees, significantly reducing the financial strain they would otherwise bear. ANNUAL REPORT 2022 After the global pandemic, we do not need any more proof of the importance of investing in research and development to provide cutting-edge treatments for life-threatening conditions. Medical research and development are the driving forces behind ground-breaking discoveries, innovative therapies, and life-saving interventions. The Foundation acknowledges that such investments benefit the present and visionary investment in the future of humanity. This pillar of our core programs aims to support scientific and medical undertakings that will contribute to public health. In 2022, funding for research and development from the Foundation was allocated to the clinical trial of the Spectra Covid-19 vaccine study. A total of 40 million pesos financed the clinical trial of the SPECTRA (CLOVER) Covid-19 Vaccine Study.
