Can we define it? Has anyone ever defined it properly? The answer to all these questions is a big NO. Actually happiness is a mixed feeling. When we achieve something we feel happy, when we like the weather around we feel happy, smiling faces of our family members make us happy, a sweet melody or a beautiful flower or a sweet child makes us happy. Though we can't define happiness precisely, at the end of the day, it remains the most important thing in our life. Today youngsters strive towards success through a successful career. May be he/she wants to become an engineer, a doctor, an MBA, a CA, a professor, a creative artist or etc. A successful career offers financial security in a big way. Many times this is defined as happiness. However, it is not so always. Can we honestly ask ourselves one question? Are we happy with our life? The answer may not always make us happy. The simple reason behind this is we try to define happiness in tangible terms. This is also the root cause of the most severe disease of modern life - stress. Let us try to have a stress-free life. Financial success is very important but never at the cost of life itself. Along with a successful career, set some easy goals. Spend time with your family and friends. Help others as much as possible. Love and live with Nature as much as possible. Love your motherland. Create a small garden or a little library for yourself. Give a vent to your passion - sing, dance, write, cook, travel, just give a little time to explore your unknown inner self. You will feel happy. Live every moment to the full, you will be happy. In life, there is only one tense - Present Tense. Make every present moment lively, loving, caring and selfless. You will be happy beyond measure. God has bestowed this wonderful blessing called Life upon us. Let's try to make Life worth Living. Name: Dr. Sutapa Bose TGT, English Department 9

… Listen to Our Blooming Buds Voice Public speaking and performing are inevitable for people who want to share their experience, knowledge, and ideas with others. But not everyone has enough confidence and self-control to go on stage without fear. Even professional artists and speakers have trouble with stage fright. Dealing with this fear is difficult, but it becomes easier when you approach it as any other multi-step process. The first thing to do is accept the fear. You should understand that this fear is a normal part of your life, and you should not be ashamed of what you feel. Another effective way to overcome stage fear is to become distracted. Before going on stage, talk to your friends, call your parents, or watch an episode of your favorite TV series. Focus on something else but your anxiety, and your heartbeat will be back to normal. Your fear may come from a lack of confidence. The best way to deal with it is thorough preparation. You have to provide in-depth research on your topic and be ready to answer unexpected questions. If you’re going to perform, then you should take into consideration all the unexpected situations (such as a broken mic or power outage) and get ready for them. You’ll become more confident about what you are going to do, and your fear will disappear. One more alternative way to deal with stage fright is to learn a breathing technique. This doesn’t mean that you have to become a yogi, as many professionals use these techniques regularly to calm down: doctors, sportsmen, actors, etc. Among the most popular breathing techniques are equal breathing, abdominal breathing, and 4-7-8 breathing. They will help you to relax and reduce the influence of your fear on the nervous system. The next method to overcome your stage fright works for a wide range of daily situations. People frequently feel nervous about the things that they are unable to change, such as the weather or traffic. When it comes to public speaking, you can change your level of confidence, skills, and readiness. However, you will not be able to change the way your audience perceives you. They might not like your topic, tone of voice, or point of view. The only thing you can do is imagine the worst scenario. You are not going to die from one unsuccessful speech or performance, and you will not lose your job. The worst thing that can happen is that your listeners may not like your presentation. But your life does not depend on your success. This recognition will help you deal with the fear of the stage. The last, but no less important, path to your confidence is regular practice. You may not overcome your fear, but you will get used to it, at least. In fact, the regularity of your performances will not completely eliminate the fear and negative emotions you feel. But you may try to turn your fear into another strong emotion: excitement or enthusiasm. These feelings will be helpful and make you a more passionate speaker. Not only beginners have stage fright, but also skilled artists. You may overcome or tolerate it using various methods: accepting it, distracting yourself, growing your self-confidence, learning breathing techniques, gaining humility, and practicing regularly. … Listen to Our Blooming Buds Voice For majority of my teen life, I hated myself. I hated who I actually was. I was scared about what people think of me, so I conceded into their idea of who they thought I was. I neglected to do things I wanted to do in order to uphold this image of what people painted me to be. I hated myself for doing things because of other people’s expectation of me. I never cared about what actually wanted to be, who I was. It was like somewhere I lost my true self. After a span of time, it became hard for me to keep up with people’s expectations. Others told me to be what I want but I couldn’t understand it at all because from the very beginning I became who I was told to. One day I heard a song, it was in Korean (Hangul)language. I wasn’t able to understand what it meant but the vocalists had very beautiful voice which made me to go search about that song. The name of the song was ‘Love Myself’ by BTS, a Korean boy-band. The lyrics carried very deep meaning. The lyrics were: “Loving myself might be harder Than loving someone else Let’s admit it The standards you made are more strict for yourself The thick tree rings in your life It’s part of you, it’s you Now let’s forgive ourselves Our lives are long, trust yourself when in a maze When winter passes, spring always comes” The song made me realize that the way I have been living till now was not right at all. Should let go of the standards I have set up for myself and try to find my real self. The life I should live should consist of what I want to be not what others expect me to be. Even if I am not good enough, it still is a part of me. I may not become good enough ever but that’d still be me. The me with all imperfections with no exceptions will be me. I don’t need to be perfect, there’s no need to fit in the ideas of what people expect me to be. As long as I am me, it’d be enough to live happily. There’s no particular reason to love myself it’s just that it’ll make me more beautiful. Loving myself is easy as well as hard. It’s easy because loving myself doesn’t require anyone else’s permission but it’s hard because I have a lot of imperfections and I know it won’t be easy to accept it all, still I have to look for myself and accept those imperfections because it made me. Those imperfections are a part of me and I can only love myself when I accept myself. I look more beautiful with my imperfections. I don’t want to be afraid of showing people who I am and the day when I won’t be afraid anymore will be the day I’d walking on path to loving myself. I may be a bit blunt, I may lack somethings. I may not be perfect but it will all be beautiful because that’s who I am. I may not fit into the standards of others anymore but I’ll be happy. Imperfection is uniqueness and uniqueness is perfection is what BTS told me through their songs. I want to conclude this all with this beautiful lyrics of a song ‘Epiphany’ by Jin, the member of BTS: “I'm the one I should love in this world Shining me, precious soul of mine I finally realized so I love me Not so perfect but so beautiful I'm the one I should love” Name: Prachi Class: XI (Commerce) 16
