There are two distinct sub species of African elephant, the Savanna elephant is larger and lives primarily in grassland habitats and the Forest Elephant which is smaller and lives primarily in the forests of the Congo Basin. Combined, both species are found in 37 African Countries and these are an estiated 415,000 in the wild.
